Entry tags:character: charlie weasley, character: percy weasley

Who: Percy Weasley & Charlie Weasley (and NPC Lucy)
What: Tailoring robes and family visits
Where: Percy's home
When: Tuesday, October 7 (backdated)
Status: Closed / Ongoing

Percy sat by the window, a book open on his lap but left unread while his attention was on the piano on the other side of the room. Lucy was practicing her scales, and though he often pretended for her sake that he was busy reading, he much preferred watching and listening to her. Her tiny fingers tickled along the ivory pieces, at times tentative and others confident, yet despite her youth, he could already hear the makings of an excellent pianist.

Lucy's piece finished and Percy stopped pretending to read his book long enough to applaud her work. She turned around and gave him a glare, reminding him that he was supposed to be 'reading'. He pretended an apologetic look and went back to his act, allowing her to get back to her music. His mother had once seen that look on Lucy's face and told him it was exactly the look he used to give the twins.

He supposed the apple really did fall close to the tree.

Lucy burst into a fit of giggles at her uncle's antics. "Daddy, Uncle Charlie's blowing on me!" she squealed.

"I see that," Percy replied, trying to keep a straight face. "Are you trying to tell me that he's the Big Bad Wolf now?" She giggled even further.

Percy noticed that Charlie had finished his tea, so he stood up and opened up the bag on the table, pulling out the navy robes. "So, Uncle Charlie, shall we attempt to make you look pretty for the ball?"

"Dragon, Percy, dragon. Get it right," Charlie said, laughing. "Although they tend to breathe fire," he said, "so maybe not."

He sighed, but without any weight of malice behind it. "Yes, we should probably try," he said. "Up you get, Luce," he said, hoisting her off his lap and setting her on the floor so he could stand more easily. He would have just stood with her in his arms and set her on his chair, but he didn't quite trust his balance yet.

Standing he cocked his head at Percy. "So, what do you need me to do?" he asked. "Because my resizing charms probably shouldn't be used on clothes," he said. He was perfectly adequate at them, but he thought he remembered Percy being far more precise, as he was in so many things.

"Ah yes," Percy said knowingly. "Remember Lucy, Uncle Charlie is secretly a dragon, but we must not tell anyone."

He took a moment to look his brother up and down, ignoring Lucy's urging that the robes should be pink or purple. "I'll perform an initial resizing so that they can get on you first, then we can tailor it more. It won't be as professional as if Astoria had done it, but it would still work well enough. Let's see, a little shorter in the body but wider in the shoulders, torso, and legs..." He took out his wand and wove a pair of sizing charms that would enable the robes, which were made to fit Percy's lean frame, to slide onto Charlie's without ripping. "Here, try these on, and we can tailor it from here."

"Right you are," he said, stripping off the jumper he was wearing and took the robes from Percy and fiddled for a few seconds before pulling them on carefully. There were no ominous tearing sounds, which he was grateful for, but they felt rather uncomfortable over his jeans.

"Well, Lucy, what do you think?" he asked, holding his arms up so both she and Percy could see. Percy would need to see so he could adjust the sizing where things were a bit gaping where he'd overdone the adjustment.

"You look rumply," Lucy said with a wrinkled nose.

Percy raised an eyebrow at his daughter before turning his wand to his brother. "It's a little big in some places, uneven in others because of the spells I used. Give me a few moments and it should be a little better." He cast another series of charms, these ones more targeted at specific areas. As they worked, the robes became more fitted and did a better job at highlighting his brother's particular dimensions.

"There," he said witha smile as the final spell fited the robes around Charlie's wrist. "How does that feel?"

Charlie wiggled his eyebrows at Lucy and grinned.

He waited obediently as Percy worked, trying not to shift as the spells tightened and neatened the robes.

"Honestly? Uncomfortable, but that's just because I'm not really used to robes any more. It's the familiar sort of uncomfortable though," he said, going through a range of movements to test the robes out, pleased with the fit. "You've done a great job though."

"How about now, Lucy?" he asked, knowing he'd get a straight answer from her.

Lucy took a few moments to look over her uncle before giving him a thumb's up. "Tres beau, Oncle Charles," she replied, showing off the French that her Aunt Fleur had taught her. "You look just like Prince Charming now!"

Percy grinned. "You heard the little princess, I believe your fairy godparents have prepared you for the ball. The spells last two weeks, so as long as you don't wear them a week after the ball, then you shouldn't turn Cinderalla on us."

"Multumesc, prințesă," he said in his best Romanian, sketching a little bow. "Thank you both. At least my clothes won't embarrass me now."

He nodded his understanding at Percy's explanation about the spells and slipped the robes back off carefully. "I'll get them clean and back to you as soon as I can," he said, flattening down his hair with one hand. "And make an appointment to get new robes soon. Can't be doing this if I end up going to something else swanky."

Lucy courtseyed in response, a huge grin on her face. "You're beautiful even without your clothes, Uncle Charlie." Percy decidedly looked up at the ceiling, not wanting to accidentally point out the more adult connotations beneath such an innocent statement.

"As I said, I swear by Astoria, and if you tell her I sent you, I'm sure she'll give you her very best designs." All right, he couldn't resist one comment at Charlie's expense. "I never thought I'd see the day when you get my hand me downs. My, have the tables turned, brother?"

"Thank you, Lucy," Charlie said seriously. Even though he didn't always feel beautiful, what with a missing leg and several scars, he took her words seriously. And the secondary meaning... well it didn't mean anything much to him in any case, so he could ignore it, especially given the innocence behind it.

Charlie nodded. "Yeah, you weren't the only one to recommend her. I'll get in touch once the dance is over." He couldn't help but laugh at Percy's comment about the hand-me-downs. "You have a point there. Especially since it wouldn't work if we didn't have magic," he said, amused.
