Charlie glanced at Percy when Lucy clearly demanded to be picked up, but clearly he was getting no help from that quarter so he rolled his eyes and hoisted her into his lap, making sure his feet were square on the floor so he could keep his balance.
He'd almost started to laugh at Lucy's comment about their mother telling Percy he needed a date, she still did the same to Charlie, despite knowing he had no preference for one. Lucy's question brought him up short though and he opened his mouth, frowned, took a breath and had a moment of panic about how to explain it. He had the feeling Percy was going to be no help at all on that front. "A date is usually when people who like each other decide to spend time together to get to know each other," he said, looking appealingly at Percy. This was so far out of his area it was unreal, and he couldn't swear, and mentioning sex was a no-no. "And Grandma Molly likes people to be happy, and dates can help make people happy."
