Happy Housewarming
Who: Greg, Pansy and open to invited guests.
What: Housewarming - drinks, food, Slytherin socialising.
Where: Greg's flat above McHavelock's Wizarding Headgear
When: Saturday night (let's pretend I didn't forget and fall asleep yesterday)
Rating: SFW? I'll update if not.

Pansy had organised the party, arranging and rearranging Greg's new furniture to suit herself while Greg looked on, moving what she told him to move and otherwise making himself helpful. She'd arranged for food and drinks, too and Greg tried not to wonder where the money was coming from. He doubted it was from his own suddenly inadequate Gringott's vault.

He had technically approved the guest list when Pansy had owled it to him earlier in the week, but he'd already basically forgotten who was on it. Marcus and Pansy, obviously, Astoria and Draco. Other Slytherins from their circle - Greg trusted Pansy's judgement on that. The wards were still up, but his door was open so that anyone could walk in from the street and up the stairs past Mrs McHavelock's shop.

Someone had handed Greg a glass of Ogden's Old Firewhisky and most of the invited guests seemed to have arrive - along with a cat, presumably one of Mrs McHavelock's. Greg scowled down at the animal, which was trying to wind its way around his feet. "I set the wards to keep you out," he commented, bending to grab the offending animal. He had no doubt that finding out her cats had been inside his flat would make Mrs McHavelock blame him somehow.

He chucked the animal out through the door just as another guest arrived and Greg greeted them with a nod - and a scowl as the cat darted straight back in. He was going to have to investigate wards strong enough to actually keep the damn things out. "Alright?" he asked his guest. "You want a drink?"

Pandora tended to be pretty punctual, so when it came close to time she straightened her robe and picked up her housewarming gift and headed toward where Pansy had owled that Greg's new place was. Granted, she hadn't been overwhelmingly fond with Greg in school, with Quidditch and all, but it hadn't been his money that put her in that position. Though honestly it had been long ago and so much had happened since then that she didn't care like she once had over trivialities.

Besides, these people were some of her only friends, and she was finally feeling like she was social, at least a bit, again.

Pandora smiled up at Greg as she walked in. It didn't hurt that he really had grown up well, she thought. She never would have guessed he'd look like this when they were in school. "Hello," she greeted. "Yes, I'll take one. And this is for you." She gave him the trunk like object that was propped on her hip. It was taller vertical than horizontal, and would enlarge a bit from where she'd shrunk it to carry it. "Has extra-dimensional space, and I can ward it to you for a safe or just storage if you want."

Greg had been eyeing the trunk propped on Pandora's hip as soon as he'd spotted it - and he grinned when she handed it over. Even if they were things for his flat rather than things he really wanted, he still liked presents! "Great." He didn't have a lot of storage space in his flat, so extra-dimensional space would definitely come in handy, as would something he could ward against Mrs McHavelock and her cats. "Thank you."

He took Pandora to the kitchen for her drink via a detour to his bedroom to store the trunk. He'd decide where to permanently put it later but for now he didn't want people tripping over it. In the kitchen, there were bottles of wine with glasses as well as a bottle of Ogden's and some soft drinks. "What would you like?"

"No problem. Everyone should get a housewarming gift." And though it didn't have multiple compartments, the one it had was very big and he'd be able to keep it safe. "I can add some runic stuff too, if you want, just let me know when you decide what you need on it." The perk of being a Charms Mistress was the ability to make custom-made things like that to give as gifts, so long as she could afford the trunk. That one had been one she'd made a long time ago, but she was happy to find it a good home finally.

She glanced around curiously but didn't act nosey. "Nice little place," she complimented him. She looked at the selection, lingering on the Ogden's before sighing. She'd already had some hard stuff this week, and though she'd managed not to get totally drunk she really shouldn't. "Let's go with the wine, I guess," she told him.

"Are there runes to keep out cats?" He asked, because his own charms didn't seem to be working and if Pandora could keep cats out of a trunk maybe he could figure out how to keep them out of his flat entirely. "Or kneazles." If they were kneazles or part-kneazles that might explain how they were getting through his wards. Or else it was just the one and he was Mrs McHavelock's familiar. Though he'd taken Care of Magical Creatures, Greg's understanding of animals wasn't exactly all that good.

He poured a glass of wine and offered it to her before refilling his own glass with the Ogden's. "It's alright, I guess." He still wasn't used to it, having only these small rooms to live in. He'd always lived in large places - his family home, Hogwarts that had made his bulk less of an issue. Here, though it wasn't literally true, he felt as if he had to constantly hunch to keep his head from hitting the ceiling. "Certainly 'little'."

"There are runes to try to keep out cats," Pandora said dryly. "Sometimes you can hit on the right combination. But I can ward the chest against living matter that isn't you. That's not so possible with a living space. I can try different combinations until something works, though." She might as well. Maybe she'd make a breakthrough or something. Though cats had been dealing with magic since the beginning of time.

Dora took the glass and sipped, mmming softly. Not too shabby. She snorted softly and looked up at him. "It's bigger than where I've been living for a long time, though I get to move soon," she said. "You have more than one room aside from the loo, you're not doing too shabby."

Greg wrinkled his nose, openly disappointed. "Mrs McHavelock's cats keep wondering up here," he grumbled by way of explanation. "And then she shouts at me for hiding them from her!" As if he'd want to keep her stupid cats. Greg had no pets of his own and no particular desire to change that, certainly not by co-opting cats from his irritating landlady. He knew it wasn't Pandora's fault that she couldn't help him, and his annoyance truly wasn't directed at her - though whether that was obvious in his actions remained to be seen.

"I suppose." He didn't look at all convinced by her praise of his flat. "It's expensive." He'd had no idea just how expensive renting property could be. It hadn't been something he'd had to worry about before. Now it felt like he was spending all his (meagre) wages on a flat he didn't even like that much when he could - should - have been living at home exactly as before.

"Well, let me get a few things from my workshop the next few days, and I'll start experimenting for you. I know they can be pesky," she said. He obviously wasn't a cat person, and she thought she remembered that from school. She snorted. "What'd you want that many cats for, anyway?" she said dryly.

"Yeah, living is bloody expensive," she agreed. She missed being at her former state of grace -- she'd been born to money, and should have had it still. But she tried not to dwell or she'd be too miserable. "But it's amazing what one gets used to. If you'd have asked me when I was sixteen if I'd be living in a one room flat, and I'd have laughed in your face. And probably punched you for insulting me."

"I don't even know how many there are," he admitted. As far as he was concerned, Mrs McHavelock had an inexhaustible supply of cats - as well as a similar supply of complaints about him, the way he was treating 'her' flat and... everything else. Between her and George Weasley's customers, Greg would have gone back home if that had been an option. As it was - he kept telling himself he'd get used to it. "Thanks. That'd be good."

He nodded, sipping at his drink as Pandora more or less echoed his own thoughts. It was amazing what one could get used to. Greg just hoped he'd get used to think fast. He didn't like feeling uncomfortable in his own home, though wards might help some with that. "Where are you moving to?"

"Not really sure yet, actually?" Pandora confessed, taking another sip of wine. "I was offered an apprenticeship and position and so I'll be wherever it's decided I should be put." She made a concerted effort to not be worried about it all. She wanted to snare the opportunity and take advantage of it, though if it was somewhere nice like she suspected, she knew it might spoil her if she had to go back to a tiny stamp of a place again later. "I should be finding out tomorrow. I don't have much, though, so moving won't take that long."

Greg nodded. It wasn't too dissimilar to his own situation, except that Pandora had found a job first whereas he'd just been told to go find a flat and had picked the first one to present itself. "Still in the UK?" he asked, because as long as she was, she'd still be able to apparate easily to social gatherings. When you were a witch or wizard, that was really all that mattered. "I hope your new job is better than mine."

"Yes, here in London, I know that much," she said with a smile. "I'll have everyone over once I get settled and know what my schedule might end up being, since I'm still with the shop too." And her aunt didn't actually know about the new gig, so that would be interesting. "Thanks. It'll be... invigorating to say the least. What is it you're doing now?" she asked him.

"That's good, then." It was more something to say than something Greg particularly felt. He still wasn't used to London, but his mother had thought it was good for him to be here - something to do with it being a good way to improve their reputation after the war. Greg assumed the same was true for Pandora. "Sounds like you'll be busy. I'm working for Weasley." He didn't bother to specify which one. It wasn't something he really wanted to think about except during the hours he was actually at work.

"I like busy," she said, shrugging one shoulder a bit and sipping at her wine. Busy gave her outlets; busy gave her goals; busy gave her no chance to think on her past any more than she absolutely had to at any given time. Her eyebrows raised, surprised at this. "Oh, are you at the club?" she said, mistaking which Weasley he was working for. "A bouncer?" Her gaze swept over him, assessing and a little appreciative. "You have that tall, dark, muscular thing that would definitely do well for that."

Greg shook his head, barely registering that there was a compliment in her words. As far as he was concerned, it was simple fact. Yes, he was tall and muscular and had dark hair. "Too noisy." Even so many years after his hearing had been restored, he still had some trouble with places designed to be loud. They were just... overwhelming. "George Weasley, at the shop." He didn't think he'd have liked working nights, either. He had his routine and he was sticking to it. It was about the only thing in his life that hadn't changed.

"Hm, can be, I suppose. I've not been yet, but I want to go dancing sometime." She prefered, in her pureblood heart, the formal dancing she'd learned as a child; but she could settle for a beat in her blood on occasion. "Well, that's not too bad. At least it won't be boring," she said. Not a job she'd want and she was a bit surprised at Greg, but sometimes you did what you had to do, she knew this intimately.

Not a fan of dancing of any kind, Greg scowled. He'd learned as a child, but had never been graceful or good at delicate movement so his parents had given up fairly quickly. "I don't like it," he said simply. It was true. The customers, the products - none of it suited him at all. It was just what he had to do. Get a job, and he'd got one. "Potter keeps coming in to stare at me."

"That's too bad," she said, and swayed her hips for a moment and grinned. "It can be a lot of fun, especially with the right partner." She tilted her head to the side and looked at him. "Well, you could try to find another, while you're still working this one," she suggested. "Oh gods, is he? That's awful. I've not had trouble with him yet, but some of the Aurors who buy from the shop lurk and watch me sometimes."

"I meant I don't like working at the shop," Greg clarified. He was quite used to people misunderstanding when he chose simply not to reply to a topic he had nothing further to add to. He didn't particularly like dancing either, but that wasn't what he'd meant, so he explained. He frowned again. He hadn't thought of trying to find another job. He supposed he could. There were other shops, maybe ones whose owners weren't connected to Potter. "I'm supposed to work on Diagon Alley or Monument Alley." That ruled out a lot of things.

He nodded, scowl deepening as he thought about Potter. It was rare that he could empathise with someone, but he could understand Pandora's problem with this. "He doesn't want me to sabotage Weasley's business."

"Can't say I blame you there. It doesn't seem like a place I'd enjoy either." She shrugged then. "Well, there a bunch of jobs along those two. Keep an eye out, someone could be hiring. If I hear of anything I'll let you know."

She snorted and gave him a commiserating look over her glass. "Oh yeah, like you'd jeapordizeyour payday for something like that." BBesides, she really couldn't see Greg doing sabotage. Wrecking a place, sure, but sabotage? It didn't seem like his particular skill set.

Greg smirked slightly, pleased that someone better with words than he was had said something not unlike what he'd told Potter. "That's what I told him." Not in as many words, of course, but that had been his general meaning. "Why would anyone bother?" he asked as an afterthought. He couldn't see any benefit to anyone in sabotaging Weasley's shop.

She grinned, and it was a slightly wicked expression. "No point in going for the shop. If you're going to get revenge, get it on a personal level," she stated, shrugging a shoulder. "Spread rumors, be a cockblock, let a secret slip. Unless you can utterly destroy a shop, there's no point." She was a go big or go home person sometimes, but if she didn't think she'd succeed or thought she'd be caught, it was a no go. Dora was known for having a bit of a vengeful, vindictive streak though. "Besides, you don't have anything against him personally, right? So you're right, what's the point?"

Greg frowned. He was a Slytherin, but not a particularly devious one and besides, he wasn't creative enough to come up with most of Pandora's suggestions. "I don't like him." Partly because he was a Weasley, partly because he didn't like his job. But it wasn't enough to prompt Greg to actually do anything more than complain. Besides, he was supposed to be being 'good', whatever that meant nowadays. "But he's not worth the trouble." By which Greg really meant he wasn't worth troubling Draco or Pansy to think about.

Blaise had always enjoyed the various events when they were younger. He'd made a good show of mingling and making the rounds being sure he was seen by all. It was, after all, exactly how Michalea expected her son to act in public. Networking and making sure everyone knew who you were and added you to their radar was considered a viable skill. One they all had gained over the years. Thankfully, each location they'd frequented in their younger years had been rather spacious and eventually Blaise had been able to disappear off to a spot with just a few individuals.

The crew he'd often found himself avoiding the masses with were the friends here at Greg's tonight. Blaise didn't know why but he found their get together to be a bit stifling. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy the company, quite the opposite. He just felt as if they were confined with no way to escape if there was the desire to get away for whatever reason may present itself.

Having already made the rounds and taken the time to speak to everyone, Blaise found a spot where he could lean against the wall and simply watch the others. At some point his eyes caught the eyes of another individual and he lifted his glass slightly. "Enjoying yourself?" he spoke up just enough for the other person to hear.

It had been an interesting night so far for Gemma, who had foregone her usual jeans and tank shirt for something a little more suitable for a party. She was quite a few years older than most of those here, but that had never stopped her from insinuating herself somewhere, especially when she'd been invited (and she suspected that was mostly Pansy's doing). She hadn't hesitated in taking advantage of the free food and drinks, and had considered it all an opportunity to make new contacts. She couldn't possibly be the only person still interested in the kind of business there used to be on Knockturn Alley.

One of the younger ones, she remembered him being introduced as Blaise, caught her eye and lifted his glass. She did the same and put on an approachable smile.

"Of course," she replied, using her right hand to motion around the room with her glass of wine. "Any party with Pansy is an event in itself. And yourself?"

Her presence here was questionable and it reminded him a bit too much of the way their parents had always brought in a few older individuals to watch them so as to insure they were being well groomed for proper society.

"Always," he replied to her comment about Pansy. His eyes searching the room for her as she crossed his mind and lingering just a few seconds before turning his attention to Ms. Farley. "Good food, proper company, what isn't there to enjoy?"

"The Ministry, sounds suitably boring," she said with a teasing lilt. "And vague. Are you maybe a little embarrassed by what you do? I wouldn't worry, it takes all kinds." She shrugged. Her eyes narrowed - she didn't care for insinuations that she was lying, even when she was telling the truth (which, agreed, was rare enough, but it did happen). "Maybe your memory's the one lapsing, since she seemed pretty harrassed with you when you started arguing with her. Blaise wasn't going to further argue semantics with the woman. He knew that Astoria had stuck her nose in where it didn't belong that day. If she took offense that was on her and not at all related to his actions. Blaise could only control what he did not how people decided to interpret those actions.

When she mentioned a proper manicure Blaise had to fight not to roll his eyes. "Manicures are for my mother," the emphasis on mother could not be missed. Besides, anyone that knew Blaise knew that while he took care of himself there were just certain lines he didn't cross.

Gemma's fingers tightened on her glass at the inflection that was so very obvious. She had spent most of her life fighting against the idea that she was weaker and less than because of her gender, having to be harsher and stronger than any of the boys on the quidditch pitch just so she could keep her spot and in doing so got banned, and the years of using men to survive on Knockturn because if she didn't use them then she would be the one used, abused, and assaulted. She stood up to her full height, pride in dignity coming out of every pore, and though her face was calm, almost serene, her eyes flashed with an inner fire.

"Then your mother has excellent taste, as do the many men, women, and those in between who enjoy manicures and such. If you ever change your mind, my business isn't hard to find. Have a good evening, Zabini." With that, she nodded and moved along.

Having a night off couldn't have come at a better time; if she saw another packing list, much as she loved her stepmother, she'd scream. Millicent resisted the urge to smooth her newly cut hair, and let herself in as Pansy'd told her to do when the invitation'd come. She'd opted for comfortable, but (she hoped) smart, and she'd shrunk Greg's presents so she could carry them in her purse from the Portkey point.

She raised an eyebrow at a cat winding its way through the room, not remembering Greg being particularly fond of them, then smiled as she started to notice each face in the room. Rippling her fingers in a wave as someone called her name, she put her purse with several others, and then started for the kitchen, hoping there'd be something cool and fruity.

A tap to her shoulder made her turn, mid-pour, and she smiled appreciatively. "Well, hello! Long time, no see!"

Roger walked into the party feeling oddly nervous. He wasn't entirely sure why Pansy had invited him, especially as Marcus had seemed a bit touchy about the whole subject. Still, he like Pansy, was in love with Marcus, and had been friends with enough Slytherins at school to be able to make it work.

He looked around the party. There were a lot of people here he either didn't know, or only knew on sight. He'd been hoping to see Marcus or Pansy so he could cling to them like a limpet, but they weren't currently in sight. Sighing to himself he went into the kitchen to see if there was something to drink. He paused for a moment, finding someone vaguely familiar in the kitchen. "Millicent," he asked cautiously, tapping her on the shoulder. "Merlin's teeth it's been ages! How are you?"

Her grip on her glass faltered, and Millicent swiftly put her tumbler down on the counter, moving as though she were merely doing it to accommodate the added weight of the sangria she was continuing to pour.

Merciful Morgana. The dark hair and the height...she'd thought it was Greg, or even Marcus, and hadn't continued to turn so she could see him full in the face. So stupid, Millicent. Leaping before you even looked. Now she was going to have to talk to him, because she couldn't just walk away after smiling so openly and greeting him the way she had. Like they were friends. Like she was happy to see him after moving to London to be near everyone again.

But she could handle this, she swore silently, tipping the pitcher back up after she'd filled her glass -- a little more than she'd planned, but she was going to need it. Tossing her head lightly, she turned around carefully, best meet-and-greet smile on her face, fingers tightening surreptitiously on the bottom of her tumbler. "Roger! It has!" Her hip against the counter, she let her eyes widen slightly in a "fancy meeting you here" greeting. "What brings you to such a humble party, Mr. International Quidditch Star?"

Roger smiled pleasantly at her as she turned to meet him, her tiny bit of shock evident beneath her cheer. He gave a Gallic shrug at her enquiry and smiled. "Pansy invited me on account of Marcus and I being uh, 'International Quidditch Stars' together," he replied. "The more interesting question of course is what are you doing here? I don't think I've seen you since fifth year when that bitch of a woman was in charge."

Moving around her, he grabbed himself a glass and poured himself a generous portion of sangria as well. "So what's new in your life," he asked.

Pansy had mentioned inviting him, Millicent agreed silently, though she hadn't heard he'd sent an acceptance or refusal. Not that many people refused Pansy Parkinson's invitations, of course. But the matter had slid to the wayside in Millicent's brain in the hassle of packing and moving, and seeing him in person after so long was...jarring. It hurt, she admitted to herself, especially when he continued speaking and that woman was the next thing in the air between them.

Another sip of sangria gave her time to think quickly, and she tipped her head back a little to look at him better. "I just moved up to the city," she answered, "and I'm trying not to think about all the unpacking I still have left to do. A person never knows how many things they own until they have to move." She smirked slightly, taking another drink. "Job interviews, trying to see people I haven't seen in a while, getting the house in order...the like." Millicent raised her eyebrow quizzically. "How about yourself?"

Roger smiled at her pleasantly, casually scratching the scar on the back of his hand which was itching for some reason. It was interesting seeing Millicent after so many years, especially since they'd been friendly at school; although she had been one of the students on the Inquisitorial Squad in Roger's seventh year. Still, he doubted very much that she would have had anything to do with the detentions and subsequent scars that resulted in Roger being caught in a 'depraved and disgraceful position.'

"That's exciting," he replied with a warm smile. "What brought you up to London then?" He paused and sipped his own drink and smiled to himself, glad he could talk to someone other than Marcus or Pansy. "Unpacking is always the worst," he agreed fervently. "I had to unpack so much when I moved into my place, so you have my condolences." He nodded thoughtfully. "Well at least your keeping busy! Any progress on the job front," he asked, before pausing to think about her question. "I've been busy too, I guess. I've been reconnecting with my mum's family which is both hilarious and irritating, plus playing Quidditch of course, plus I've got a massive crush on someone at the moment, and that's really most of me at the moment. I'm quite boring."

"Some progress," Millicent said, putting her glass down to lean her hands back on the edge of the counter, tilting her head the other way as she thought quickly about what she could divulge and what she should probably keep close to her chest just now. It'd been so long since they'd chatted socially, much less talked for real, that she found herself leery about nattering on and chasing him away. "I had two interviews last week, with a PR office and a realtor, for an assistant position. I should hear back within the week, they said. And I saw that Rich Summerby at International Exports was looking for an assistant, so I may try to contact him and see if he still has a vacancy." That one worried her a bit, though -- Summerby wasn't someone she knew well, and she didn't know how he felt about Slytherins her age. But she had to try, she knew. She was good at what she did, and if House prejudices decided against her, that was out of her control.

Her eyes dipped down to his hand, and she opened her mouth to ask if he was right...before she suddenly clamped her lips back together with an unexpected horror. She'd thought he might have hurt himself, or needed a salve on skin chapped from Quidditch, but no. The area was too centrally placed, and too silver. Millicent shakily reached for her drink unseeingly, eyes blinking several times before they lifted to meet Roger's. "I think Pansy should have some salve, if you need it," she said a bit weakly, nodding faintly at his hands. "I, uh...we should probably go see who else has arrived, before Pansy tells us we're being anti-social."

Pansy and Open

Pansy had, of course, been the first to arrive. She'd thought, and been right in thinking, that Greg would require her assistance in making the flat party-ready. She'd rearranged furniture, supervised Nattie in setting out the refreshments, and generally made sure everything was perfect before their friends arrived. She'd also needed the time to prepare herself, as Draco and Astoria would be in attendance. She wondered if the time would ever come when she didn't feel as if she was preparing for war before seeing them together.

Just before guests were about to arrive, she escaped into the bathroom for a few moments of deep breathing. Finally, she smoothed the skirt of her dress, made sure her hair was perfectly smooth and in place, and headed out again. The guests had just started to arrive, and she didn't think her presence had been missed.

After a quick detour to the kitchen for a glass of wine, she went to mingle.
