Chess
Who: OPEN THREAD
What: Beginner's Night @ Wizarding Chess Championships
Where: The Roost, Finnigan's
When: Thursday evening
Rating: SFW

Instead of the usual large chessboard taking up the floor of The Roost, Seamus had had Dominic set up several smaller ones - with room around the outside for the more usual kind of tabletop boards and chairs. It was a spur of the moment to do something different for the evening and Seamus honestly didn't know what kind of a crowd to expect.

Adrian nodded with a self-deprecating smile, "I've got a visit to my parents coming up and I know Father is going to ask me to play with him a while." He shook his head now, "I'm terrible, and have never taken to it, even the basics still allude me."

Looking around he asked, "Did you ever play at Hogwarts? I don't recall seeing you among the Club." Not that Adrian had paid much mind to the Chess Club in school, but he had watched people closely as always, and Viktor was one watch that year.

"Ah yes, I can see vhy you might want more practice," Viktor said. "I can help vith that, I think." Though not as heavy as during his school year's, Viktor's accent was still pronounced when speaking English.

"I did, some, though not vith a club. Karkaroff discouraged getting too involved with too many things, or my focus would not be on the Tournament properly. So I mostly played vith my schoolmates when I had a moment, though I shared a few games," he told him.

Adrian nodded, "Thank you," his eyebrows were raised a bit. Neither he nor Viktor had (at least to his recall) ever been the most social sorts, so the offer to help was a surprise but a welcome one.

"I honestly can't imagine what being in the Tournament must have been like - a single goal for an entire year, and more really if you think of the training," he shook his head but then opted for a lighter topic. "Shall we choose a set, then? I will warn you though I am not being modest when I say I've really nearly no grasp of the game despite my father's trying over the years."

Viktor saw Finbar not too far away and smiled, giving him a small wave. He'd make sure to go talk to him later, after he was done helping out. "I haf been playing for a long time, I told them I would help with Beginner night," he said to the eyebrow raise. "But I like teaching anyvay."

Viktor smiled slightly. "It vas different, but not too far away from Quidditch training," he said. "Just some different things to train toward." He nodded and gestured toward a chess set. "Vat color you prefer? And no worries. Ve start with the very basics, and go from there, no problem."
