RP: What are we hunting again? A boar or a dark wizard?
Who: Rose Zeller, Dennis Creevey, and Eddie Carmichael
What: Getting settled in before the Cursebreakers’ mission starts
Where: A tiny Wizarding settlement at the foot of Mount Salak
When: 1. October, 2004 – Evening (Java time)
Rating: NSFW – Language, probably

Leaving London in the morning would put the team of Cursebreakers at the Indonesian Ministry for Magic in the early afternoon and from there to West Java. Of course, that was the plan as it was made while in the Greenwich Mean Time timezone. Now? Now they were in Indonesia, the birthplace of jam karet; rubber time. That meant that while they had left London and arrived in Jakarta on time, the Portkey out of there had been late in being acquired and very late in activating.

While annoying, it had given Rose time to read up on the area they were going to, pick up a couple of useful phrases from a phrasebook, but most importantly have a closer look at some of the local myths, legends and magic. She had plenty of time to do that, because not only was she the youngest of the group, she was also travelling as Eddie’s half-sister, which… felt a little odd, although not nearly as odd (or anywhere near as uncomfortable) as when she had had to use her official documents using her mother’s maiden name to keep from drawing attention to her heritage. Of course that also meant, that when it was finally her turn to be addressed, it would go through Eddie. So, Rose had read up on things, because she was certain that once they arrived and got to work she would be right back to being a member of the team, a trainee member, true, but still a member.

Sitting next to Dennis with a bowl of what she believed might be mutton in a curry-like coconut milk soup – it didn’t matter, it was delicious! – Rose did her best not to think of Rolf and how he would have enjoyed it here. “So, we’re helping them catch a Dark Wizard?” she asked looking from Dennis to Eddie, having only been able to grasp bits and pieces of the conversation on the way there.

Dennis took the entire trip from England to Java in his stride. They'd set off in an orderly fashion, arriving in Jakarta at the appointed time only to be confronted with the overwhelming levels of bureaucratic ineptitude that came from a society that still tended to treat punctuality as someone else's problem. He waited patiently, chatting quietly with Rose and thinking with a mixture of fondness and sadness of the time he and Paden had been forced to go up a hill on a donkey in Mexico because too many Muggles were watching for them to disapparate.

For this expedition, Dennis was travelling under a Journalist Visa and thoroughly enjoying the fact that the Prophet was paying for him to come and essentially hang out with his best friend. Also, being allowed full access to a Cursebreaking expedition was definitely something of a boon for his career and he was determined to not make a mess of it. To that end, he tried not to take exception to the fact that Rose had to be treated almost like a second class citizen in order to pass through without her youth or Jewishness becoming an issue, though he did mutter angrily about it to her a few times.

When they finally made it to camp Dennis fell upon his food with the vengeance of someone who knew there'd be hard work ahead of him in the following days. He looked at Rose thoughtfully and nodded, hungrily chowing down into whatever it was that they were eating. "I'm fairly certain there's some sort of pig involved," he hedged, blushing slightly. "My Indonesian is a tad limited. I can say 'my hovercraft is full of eels' though, which I think is something so utterly useless that it would probably end up being useful.
