RP: Tattoo Time (Backdated)
Who: Dennis and Stacey (also kittens and maybe Zacharias)

What: Dennis gets a tattoo

Where: Pinky's Ink, Monument Alley

When: Sunday 28 September, Midday

Rating: SFW

Dennis walked rather purposefully down Monument Alley, a piece of paper held in his hand. He was off to Indonesia with Rose and her Cursebreaker friends the next day, and had decided that it was finally time to get a tattoo. He stopped outside Pinky's Ink and took a deep breath before stepping inside. He was about to call out when he was confronted by a ferocious kitten. At least, Dennis thought it was probably trying to be ferocious. It came across more as adorable but the intense mewling noise was probably meant to be frightening. "Hello little one," he cooed, unthinkingly scooping the kitten up. "What are you doing here eh?"

He looked around and spotted who he assumed was the tattooist. "Hello," he said with a grin, absently moving the sheet of paper away from the kitten's paws. "I was wondering if you'd have time to squeeze me in for a tattoo? This one to be precise," he said, putting the paper on the desk. "I'm Dennis by the way."

Stacey had brought Merry and Pippin to the shop with her after stopping by home for lunch - something she did on occasion because it was her business and she could have them there if she wanted. The entire place had been warded to keep the cats to certain areas, like the lobby and the hallway to her office in the back while not letting them out of the building or into any of the booths where tattoos were actually done.

She was sitting behind the front desk, dangling a string for Pippin when the door chimed open, and she looked up to see a young man who immediately started talking to Merry. With a grin, she answered, "He's trying to escape. Apparently he's under the impression that if he yells at the wards long enough, they might let him out into the places he wants to explore but can't get to."

Grabbing the paper out of the way of Pippin, who was currently more interested in the person holding her brother than anything else, Stacey glanced over the design he'd brought. She looked up and said with a grin, "I'm Stacey. And yeah, I've got the time - you want to do it now, right?"

Dennis looked up and grinned at the woman behind the counter. "He's so cute! What's he called," he asked, utterly charmed by the sleepy flails of the creature in his hand. "Good idea about the wards though," he added with a grin. "If only all parents were so clear thinking about their babies."

He watched her look at his design with a touch of apprehension, before the mewling of the second kitten drew his attention. "Hello," he cooed at it, before turning his attention back to Stacey. "It's lovely to meet you Stacey," he said with a huge grin. "I kind of do want to do it now, yes."

"You've got Merry, and this here is Pippin," she said, scratching behind one of Pippin's ears lightly as she said the cat's name. "Thanks! And they aren't technically my babies, though I certainly spoil them enough. They're actually my roommate's cats, but I borrow them on occasion."

Stacey returned the grin with one of her own, nodding as she looked back down at the paper he'd presented as she asked, "Were you thinking about this same size? Where do you want it? And most importantly before we get started, since it's a different process depending on your answer, Muggle or magical?"

Dennis guffawed for a few seconds. "Did you, did you name your kittens after Hobbits? That is the best thing ever." He smiled brilliantly at her. "Your roommate has brilliant taste! I'd love to meet them just to congratulate them on their awesome babies!"

He had to stop himself from whooping with excitement. "I was thinking that size or slightly larger, and on my right shoulder or upper arm," he said, pausing to frown for a second. He'd actually given this a lot of thought, but he thought it over quickly then grinned again. "I think magical. Definitely magical. Would that be okay?"

"Zacharias did, yes," Stacey grinned as she explained. "He's a fan of the movies. Not to say that I'm not, because I am. I just didn't name the cats."

Nodding as she examined the picture a little more closely, she answered, "Of course - I wouldn't have asked if it wasn't! There's a couple of things that go along with that route, but..." The words trailed off as she rummaged through one of the desk drawers before coming out with a piece of trace paper and a small exclamation. "Ha! K, give me a quick minute to get this transferred, and then we can migrate to a booth and really get started."

Dennis felt his eyebrows grow up, though nothing short of a freak chain of events beginning with a freight train collision in Chester and culminating in the total destruction of Belgium could have wiped the smile from his face. "Zacharias Smith," he asked, still grinning. "I seem to have a weird journal talking relationship with him. Still I love the name of his cats," he said enthusiastically.

"Excellent," Dennis crowed. "What were you thinking?" He sat down obligingly to watch her work, taking a moment to put the kitten down.

Tilting her head to one side slightly, Stacey fixed Dennis with a confused look at his response, and said, "Yeah, one and the same." She laughed a little at the explanation provided, and commented, "I don't doubt that for a second. And yes, the names are awesome."

Without looking up, she explained, "This is the trace paper that I'll use to put the design on your skin once you tell me exactly where you want it. Obviously, we don't put the outline down until you've chosen and I've made sure the area is clear and clean, but once that's done, I'm gonna need you to tell me how much movement you want the tattoo to be capable of. If you'd decided to go Muggle, we wouldn't be doing that piece, which kind of goes without saying, but, you know. Thoroughness, or something like that."

"Awesome! I actually find him interesting to be honest. Have you ever had a friend-crush on someone, where you just really wanted to be their friend? I think I have that," he said, still grinning.

Dennis nodded, slightly fascinated by her explanation. "I was thinking maybe that the lion could have the wind through its mane. I'd also love to have it's expression mimic how I'm feeling, if that's not too much trouble? You know, maybe roar if I'm angry, smile when I'm happy. What do you think? I leave it up to your good taste!"

Laughing, Stacey admitted, "No, can't say that I have, though, admittedly, I tend to just adopt friends left and right without really giving the other person a say in the matter."

Nodding as he explained what he wanted, she said, "Sounds good - I'll do what I can, but most of the end result is going to come from you, since it'll be drawing from your magic for the movement and reactions. A lot of that is subconscious though, so don't worry about messing it up, because you really can't." It was a little bit of a rehearsed speech, something she said to people over and over again because the explanation tended to be needed often.
