RP: Morningtime stroll
Who: Pandora and OPEN OPEN OPEN

What: Pandora goes for a stroll

Where: Monument Alley Park

When: Wednesday morning, 24 September 2014

Rating: NSFW – language in her thoughts.

Pandora cradled a cup of salvation aka her hot and tasty coffee in her hands as she walked through the park in Monument Alley. Fall was definitely starting to make itself known, especially on mornings like this. She had a little while before she needed to be at Inside and Out, though, and she preferred to spend that time here many mornings instead of her shitty little flat. No amount of charms had made it livable to her standards she’d formed growing up.

She steered her thoughts firmly away from that before her mood completely soured. The last thing she needed before having to deal with Aunty M was a mood that was already bad.

She went all the way to the wishing well, sipping at her coffee and trying to soak in the calm before the day began. Calm always seemed so alien to her anymore. But she could pretend to be normal, and sometimes she even succeeded.

Though when other people appeared in the park, Pandora wondered if she’d be able to do it today or not.

Chris had stopped in what seemed to be the central park of Monument Ally. When he'd last lived in the UK, the place had been much less... Green. He remembered the look on his mother's face his first trip to Diagon, when she'd seen the seedier side of the Wizarding world while they were all still adjusting to their being a Wizarding world. She'd wanted to help every single huddled mass she'd seen in her small peek down Knockturn, and Chris couldn't help but feel that she'd be happy to see what had come of the place.

He shook his head, he'd have to tell her about it when he returned to the house for dinner tonight, though he wondered if he could pick up a camera somewhere and show her moving pictures of the place - the wishing well in particular. He looked up from the water and saw a witch with a steaming cup of coffee. YES. That he could use, but he'd no idea where to get one and he still hadn't found his office space - he'd be sharing with a former Gryffindor named Alicia who he vaguely remembered from having been on her House team, he thought - but coffee was now calling him.

"Sorry," He said, his eyes widening a bit, his voice sharp - manners weren't his strong suit, if you asked his mother, "where did you get that?" He indicated with his eyes her steaming cup.

Pandora leaned a hip casually against the well, watching the man's approach. Tall and handsome enough, she thought, though almost everyone was tall to her. She tilted her head and wondered what exactly he wanted, especially since his tone was sharp. It made her tense and worried that maybe he'd recognized her and wanted to confront her, though she couldn't say his face rang a bell in that manner. It wouldn't be the first time she'd have to fend off someone like that.

She gave him a lean smile over her cup when she realized that coffee seemed to be the item of the day for the moment. Her shoulders relaxed slightly. "This?" she said, lifting her cup slightly. "I made this one myself, though the bookshop over there sells coffee, and maybe the patisserie though I haven't been in there in quite a while." No extra knuts to spend the last several months, with the apprenticeship taking up all her life except what she eked out to work at the shop and charm items so she wouldn't starve in the meantime. "Theirs is pretty good, depending on the barista, though I brew a mean cuppa myself, so sometimes that's better," she said.

Chris considered her answer for a moment, his head cocked. "Made it yourself," he murmured. Yes, he should have thought to grab a travel mug from his mum's kitchen before he'd left.

"But there's good coffee here, you said. Two places? Which do you prefer?" Why couldn't anyone just give a straight answer? His head was still cocked as if he were a bird examining her closely.

"I'd go to the bookstore," she told him, mimicking his body language purposefully and tilting her head to look at him in the same manner he was looking at her. He was rubbing her a little the wrong way, but not enough for her to get irate over it yet. "I just don't know if they're open yet, or if the good barista is on duty today." If he were nicer, she'd consider offering him a cup from the pot she'd sent to her aunt's shop before coming over this way.

Chris gave a small laugh when her head mirrored his. There was something cheeky about her, and he could appreciate that. His laugh melted into a half-mouthed smile and he nodded, "The book store it is in then. Do you happen to know if they carry soy milk or anything of the like? Can't do with cream."

He shook his head as if to himself. Boston was an easy city for a vegetarian, everything was organic and local and tofu - even before it seemed everyone else was finally getting on board. But here, he just wasn't sure what he was going to find.

"I'm sorry," he suddenly changed the topic, "I'm Chris Summers. New back in town." He put out his hand to shake hers and it seemed as if his entire demeanor had changed in the space of a thought.

She tilted her head again, this time in thought. "You know, I don't know. I take mine black, like my poor withered little heart," she said lightly, jokingly. She swirled her cup where he could see it, unblemished by a spot of cream or milk.

She smiled, responding to the change in demeanor, shoulders relaxing a bit. She shifted her mug to her left hand and shaking his. Her palm was warm from the mug. "Hi Chris, I'm Dora," she said, going with the slightly less familiar nickname. It had mostly been used in Slytherin House, though it wasn't unknown out of it. "Nice to meet you." She grinned a little. "Since you're new again, do you need help finding the bookstore?" she asked, a little amused but knowing that the Alleys had changed a lot in the last few years.

"I could always do that, don't mind a little black heart in my coffee in the morning." He replied, pleasantly surprised by this morning run in.

"Nice to meet you, too, Dora. And yes, help finding anything would be a great relief right now." He looked around indicating his clear lack of orientation. "As of now the only thing I know how to find is this lovely fountain, and the lovely witch standing next to it." He gave her a mildly flirty smile.

She grinned, glad her joke had gone over well. Of course, he didn't know what she'd been; with some people, the joke would have fallen completely flat. As it was, she got a dark sort of humor from it.

She grinned, one side higher than the other, more of a smirk than anything, as he complimented her. "You have been gone a long time, then. Monument has been here for a while now." Even she knew her way around, and that was with being in and out a lot. "Come on, it's this way." She tilted her head and started in the right direction.

"Muggleborn," he said by way of explanation, "My parents and I fled when I was 17. So yeah, almost ten years now." He hadn't realized it had been so long and his features softened for just a moment.

No wondered he felt Boston was an easier city - he'd not been in London since he was a child. He sighed, silently, not really a sigh at all but more of a small exhale of breath, and then looked back at her with a small, tight smile, "You know, I should probably, actually be going." He had the feeling he could wile away the entire morning with Dora, and he didn't know why, but there was something he liked about her, something in her manner he appreciated. "Thank you, though, Dora," he said, holding out a hand to kiss hers lightly - not smarmily or sarcastically, just politely - "It really was a pleasure to meet you. Once I'm settled in, I hope I'll see you again," and he meant it.

Waving slightly, he headed off in the opposite direction that she'd indicated, his hands in pockets until he turned to give her one last smile and a small wave. It wasn't in his nature to care if people thought he was being rude - Christopher knew he was a total dick, there was no question - but that didn't mean he wanted a young woman to think he was blowing her off even when she'd been perfectly nice to him. There had just been something, just then, that had tugged at him - something about missing home and not knowing which home he missed - that had made him walk away with his head in the clouds and hopefully she'd understand.

"Ahh," she said with a nod. There was an instant of struggle deep in her - conditioning against her natural response. Her natural response won, and she smiled slightly. "That would do it."

She blinked whrn he suddenly switched around, saying he needed to go. For one moment, she wondered what she'd done wrong. But then he reached for her hand and she relaxed again, at least a bit, and gave it to him. She blinked up ay him again when he kissed it, surprised yet again. Outside of the very traditional circles, she'd not been treated thus in a long time. She automatically dipped into a slight curtsy, behavior taught to her in childhood showing through. "Oh. Okay then," she said, finding her mental footing again. "I'll see you around. Do come back some time."
