That's so confusing. Why do they need to call it a date if it is only a friend thing? That doesn't make any sense to me. I thought when you went out with a friend, you were just going out with a friend. I think you're right though, about the intention. It's just the word, it bugs me. Thankfully I'm okay with awkward, I guess.
