Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: dean thomas, character: ernie macmillan, character: justin finch-fletchley, character: seamus finnigan, character: susan bones

Who: Justin, Ernie, and OPEN to Justin's friends (you may presume Ernie has sent them all invites!)
What: A happy badger birthday to Justin - low-key because some people have to work!
Where: Ernie's flat - food & drinks on the patio, couch and big bed available for cuddlepiles.
When: Monday, September 22, later in the evening (backdated)
Status: OPENish / Ongoing

Because Justin's birthday fell on a weekday, Ernie had decided to save the wild clubbing night for an upcoming weekend, and instead had invited some of their friends over to his place for dinner, drinks, and conversation. He loved entertaining at his Muggle-area London flat - there were twinkling fairy lights out on the patio, which he'd furnished magically (and thankfully the spells weren't set to reverse until after midnight), the bed and sofa were full of pillows and blankets for cuddling, and the place was cleaner than the oft messy Ernie tended to keep it (but if he didn't, what would Hannah have to clean when she came to visit?).

Ernie had also decided to do all the cooking himself with a little help from his Mum, who had stayed for the meal before leaving for the night. He knew that not all of their friends could make it, and some couldn't make it until later, but he was glad to have those that were there around.

But more than anything, this was Justin's day and Ernie was just glad to be able to spend it with his best mate. After dinner, he'd brought out a large store-bought cake topped with sparkling candles for Justin to blow out, then had passed around bottles of wine and soda for people to drink.

It was now after dinner, the food mostly cleared away, and Ernie was sat next to Justin and their friends - life was good. He took the opportunity to stand and hold his glass of wine aloft, calling for quiet before he made a toast.

"To Justin Finch-Fletchley, the best mate a man could ever have. Long may your chimney smoke," he began, quoting an old Scottish blessing his father used to say, but then smirked. "And may you smoke many a long chimney."

Susan laughed and clapped her hands delightedly."That's what I like to here Ernest. I want man slaves. Also a divan. I want to be carried around the Ministry on a divan by man slaves."

"I suppose you're right," she conceded blithely before cracking up. "Oh come on Ernie, I'm like an inch taller than you, you can't wrestle me into submission like you used to when we were ickle kiddies."

She blinked at him, rather impressed. "That was very poetic dear. I rather liked it. The spell she used was some sort of charm to counteract the effects of a hex or jinx, but only specific ones. It was fascinating." She paused and looked away thoughtfully. "But I've always found rune magic to be interesting too."

"You and I both, but you may just have to settle for Justin and I as slaves," he teased.

"Wrestle you into submission, no. Tickle you into submission, maybe." He grinned devilishly.

He paused a moment in thought. "That was one of the subjects I was worst at, runes. Thank Merlin it isn't needed much in healing. What about it strikes you?"

Susan pursed her lips and looked him over with mock seriousness for several moments. "Aren't you a little short for a man slave," she joked at last, hoping the Star Wars reference wouldn't be lost to him.

She snorted and shook her head. "You wouldn't dare. We both know what happened to the last person that tickled me," she said theatrically, looking around for Justin who had received a whack on the bum for his efforts.

"I've always wondered about that actually," Susan said thoughtfully. "There's all sorts of runes that would be helpful. I mean I've only studied those pertinent to my field of work, as well as some more general ones... But I'm sure there'd be ones specific to healing?" She paused and looked into space meditatively for several long moments. "I like runes because they're such a simple yet powerful form of magic, you know?"

Ernie caught the references - Star Wars was definitely one of the series of movies he'd been made to watch by his friends as an example of Muggle culture. "At least you didn't call me too scruffy-looking. And I'm probably a little too gay for your liking too, I'd bet," he teased. "We're bottom of the barrel, so beggars can't be choosers."

"All right, I promise, no tickling." He was lying, but he promised it anyway. He would just wait for the right time, and if he did it right, it would be worth any smack on the arse.

"There may be," he said, considering. "Maybe I'll look into them when I have some free time. There could be possibilities I've overlooked. In the meantime... have you had any cake yet?"
