Marcus Flint ([info]marcedflint) wrote in [info]finnigans_rpg,
Marcus was so taken aback by that comment that he actually stopped walking for a moment as he tried to parse what Roger had just said before continuing forward as he tried to clarify. "I don't. She's not... Bryony and I are not 'together', in any sense," he said with a shake of his head, dodging a woman with two children in a stroller. Dragging his fingers through his hair, he took a deep breath - he disliked talking about this, but it seemed... important, that Roger understand.

His tone was almost flat, though his words were halting as he explained, "For the majority of my life, I thought we were going to get married. It was never completely official - even the Cappers aren't old fashioned enough to still hold with arranged marriages - but it sort of... went without saying." Though, from his understanding, his aunt and uncle had done a lot of speaking of it while Bryony had been at Hogwarts with them. "And then after everything, when I was released, I asked her father for permission. He wouldn't allow it." Ephron's quiet but firm No had felt a lot like the cell door slamming shut again, another reminder of all the things he had been incapable of doing right. "But we're still close, and she knows me better than anyone," he finished, shrugging his shoulders, unsure what else he could say on that matter.

Chuckling at the teasing tone, Marcus inclined his head slightly as he agreed, "Yeah, probably." He'd learned to be appreciative of small things, and if that translated to happiness that was easy to come by, he couldn't complain about the result. Laughing again at Roger's response, he retorted, "I said I could do it better the second time around, not that I'd want to try it without you."

"No apology needed," he told the younger man, studying the building as Roger spoke about it. Though it was obviously an older structure, it looked so different from what he was accustomed to that he was nodding in agreement to Roger's suggestion before he'd even finishing speaking.
