RP: Is this lunch or an inquisition?
Who: Pansy and Roger

What: Lunch

Where: Bella's Ristorante, London

When: Wednesday, 2pm sharp

Rating: SFW

Roger walked into the restaurant at ten to two, dressed with just the right amount of care and indifference to play the game correctly. At the mention of his name, he was whisked away by the maƮtre d', past a group of shrill society women, to the best table in the house. Chuckling to himself, he undid the buttons of his jacket and sat down, content to wait for Parkinson's arrival - no doubt in at least fifteen minutes time. He didn't know what the hell this was about, but he was more than willing to see it out, especially if it turned out to be amusing as he thought it would.

A ubiquitous waiter appeared and offered him a drink. Pausing for a moment, Roger ordered a bucket of champagne to be brought out ten minutes past two. Chuckling, he settled down to wait.

Roger felt a smile tug at he corners of his mouth as Pansy's eyes suddenly lit up with understanding. At least she was getting it. It made the whole conversation so much easier, particularly if this was some sort of odd screening process for... something.

He nodded and hummed slightly in agreement. "I quite like New York as well. I love being swallowed up in huge crowds of people going about their own business. It makes me feel insignificant and safe; which probably sounds bonkers but there it is."

"So this is some sort of screening process for my friendship with Marcus," he asked, expertly hiding his growing panic that somehow Pansy would know that Roger had feelings for Marcus. "Because if you're worried about anything, you should put your mind at ease. Marcus is one of my favourite people."

Pansy would be the first to admit that she was not a fan of feeling insignificant, but she thought she understood what he was saying. "Big cities are great for anonymity, which can certainly be beneficial from time to time."

She leaned forward slightly, her smile edged with the tiniest bit of a threat now. "He's one of my favorite people too." The fact that she'd hurt anyone who hurt him went unsaid, but she had a feeling Roger was savvy enough to get it. After a moment, she leaned back and this time there was no trace of a threat in her smile.

"Now, tell me about the Arrows chances this season. Aside from your injury, you've had a string of good games until now. Can the Arrows keep it going for the rest of the season?"

Roger nodded and smiled at her. "Its the same reason I quite like walking around Muggle London. I don't get mobbed by fans, but more importantly I'm not followed by any of those idiotic twits who like to write lies in about the lives of Quidditch players in their columns."

"I'm glad," Roger said, a ghost of a smile hovering on his lips. So she was worried about her friend. That more than anything else led Roger to decide that he liked the woman sitting in front of him. Yes, she was cold and calculating, but she cared deeply for her friends and that was good enough for him. "I think you're smart enough to pick up that I'd do anything for him, Pansy."

He shrugged and spread his arms helplessly. "Our chasers are some of the best in the league, and our beaters are like battering rams. It's our keeper and seeker that cause me a bit of worry. Things are a bit inconsistent. I'd like to say we could make the finals, and I think we will... But I can't tell you if we'll get the cup."

Pansy was an avid reader of all things gossip-related, for business purposes of course, she knew just what sorts of things Roger was talking about. "Yes, I think I recall a few interesting tidbits from Rita Skeeter, involving you and an underage witch from Liverpool?" Rita Skeeter was always worth a look, even if it was to laugh at whatever she put in the paper.

She studied him closely for a minute, than gave him a small but genuine smile. "Yes, I suppose you would." She wasn't Marcus was at the point where he understood that, or if he did understand she didn't think he was ready to act on it, but it was enough that Roger was at that point.

"It's still early in the season, but if you keep on as you have been I think you have a good chance at that cup." They'd have to work hard, and keep Puddlemere on their toes, but it was certainly a high possibility.

Roger rolled her eyes and nodded. "Did you read the one in the Oracle the other week, about how Marcus apparently got three different women pregnant then had an affair with the Dutch Minister for Magic? I mean it was impressive, but rage inducing. They don't seem to invent as crazy stuff with me, which always confuses me slightly."

He smiled at her sadly for a moment. "Believe me when I tell you this. I know he and I could never be together, but I'll always be his friend and I will always have his back."

"Thank you for you confidence," he said with a genuine smile. "I mean we have to keep Puddlemere on their toes, but we might just be able to do it." He gave her an arch little smile, "Though didn't you put Puddlemere on the map?"
