Who: Dominic and OPEN
What: After work drinks and conversation
Where: The Common Room, Finnigan's
When: 6.30ish
Rating: SFW

Even after a cleaning charm, Dominic could feel the sand under his fingernails. Apparently the stuff was as hard to get out via magical means as it was the muggle way. His clothes and hair carried a vague scent of salt and coconut and his mind felt tired. He'd spent the afternoon in The Roost experimenting with the space and the charms he would use for Dean's Caribbean-inspired birthday. He hadn't even started on the Starry Night ceiling that Susan had suggested, or the steel drum sounds Seamus had requested. Those would be tomorrow's jobs.

Tired as he was (mentally, it hadn't been physically demanding work) he was pleased with the results he'd achieved. Even though they'd been temporary, he'd been pleased with the sand and the bar and the scented air. After returning the room to its usual Thursday night state, he'd stayed to watch the first of the Wizarding Chess matches. Now, though, he was ready for a drink. The Common Room was quiet, most people down in the Den listening to the Quidditch. Though he supported Kenmare (as well as Ballycastle), Dominic preferred the chance of conversation offered by the main room. So, drink in hand, he surveyed the tables looking for a place to sit.

Lisa was looking forward to tonight. Christopher was settled in with Mrs. Kettlering, and Lisa had the entire evening for actual grown-up fun. She could hardly believe it! She loved her kid, but sometimes it was nice to be just another young twenty-something in a crowd of other young twenty-somethings. She'd even splurged on a new outfit, something she rarely had the money for. But business was good, and a girl had to have fun once in awhile. And Finnigans was the perfect place.

With a bounce in her step and a grin on her face, she entered the pub and headed straight for the bar. She slid onto a stool, and ordered a beer. Beer wasn't her favorite, but she'd save the hard stuff for a night when she didn't have a shipment coming early the next morning. Drink in hand, she scanned the crowd for a friendly face.

She was so busy scanning the crowd, she didn't notice the wizard right in front of her until she'd bumped him from behind. "Oh my god. I'm so sorry! Did I make you spill anything? I'm such a klutz."

Fortunately, Dominic's beer of choice tended to come bottled rather than in pint form, so he was saved a messy accident as someone bumped into him. "No harm done," he assured the woman, turning and giving her a smile as he recognised her. "Lisa. Good to see you." He glanced around her, not seeing anyone else that looked like they belonged to her this evening. "You here alone? I was hoping to find someone who wants to talk something other than Quidditch." He gestured to a nearby table with a tilt of his head, watching for her answer.

Previous conversations had clued him in to the fact Lisa wasn't a big Quidditch fan and that was just fine with him. He'd rather play than watch, and even rather watch than listen to it. Brilliant as the magical world was he just couldn't get behind the idea of listening to sports on the radio. Someone needed to invent a magical television-equivilant. The magic was obviously possible, if omnioculars were anything to go by, so... Dominic shook his head at himself. Tonight was not for speculating about magical innovations. He'd done enough of that at work. Tonight was for conversation with a beautiful woman, if she'd oblige him.

"It's good to see you too, Dominic!" And it was. He was very nice to look at, and it had been while since she'd had a good flirt; maybe tonight was the night. "Yes, I'm all on my lonesome. Is that all anyone does around here? Talk Quidditch?" She hoped not, but her experience in her last few months back had proven that Quidditch was a huge topic of conversation. "Lead the way."

She followed him to the table, glad to be off her feet; these heels were killer but made her legs look so good. The short skirt helped too. "So, how are things?" she asked once they sat down. "You went away there for a minute. Interesting thoughts?"

Dominic didn't trouble to hide the way he watched her legs as she sat down. If she didn't want to show them off, she wouldn't have worn that skirt, after all. "Not all the time, but it's the first match of the season." He gestured around to the thinner-than-usual crowd in the Common Room. "Seamus has the game on the wireless downstairs. Kenmare against..." But no, he couldn't remember who Kenmare were playing. Seamus would probably remind him later, and be outraged that he couldn't remember.

He smiled at her question. It was nice to have someone around who didn't assume that just because he looked like he was concentrating he'd lost interest in their conversation. He'd just got distracted, that was all. "Thinking about television and omnioculars and how much more fun it is to be able to see sporting events, rather than just listen." Since Lisa seemed tolerant, he pulled a folded sheet of paper and a muggle biro from his pocket to note down the thought. He could come back to it later.

"Things are good. Work never seems to end, so it's a good job I love it - and my boss." He scratched his nails against the palm of his hand in an attempt to dislodge any wayward sand - and to quell the impulse to reach for a cigarette. "How are things with you?"

"I took Christopher to a Quodpot match last summer; he loved it. It was very violent." Come to think of it, that's probably why he enjoyed it. "I should take him to a Quidditch match too, so he can compare." She wanted her kid to make decisions for himself and if that meant he was destined to be a Quidditch junkie, who was she to deny him.

She waited patiently while he wrote things down; she definitely understood the need to get ideas out while they were fresh. When he was finished, she leaned forward grinning. "Oh, that would be amazing; the Wizarding world has a lot of brilliant things, but I miss television and movies." Of course, she could have gotten a flat in Muggle London and had the best of both worlds, but she liked living above the shop.

"The shop is going amazingly well. I wasn't sure at first if I could make a go of it, but it really seems that people appreciate having an alternative to Flourish and Blotts."

"Funny you should say that," Dominic said, smiling. "Kenmare were actually the first professional team I saw play. Seamus took me the summer after my first year. It's... a lot different to watching the games at Hogwarts." At least, he'd thought so. There level of skill on display was, obviously, much higher and he'd enjoyed that, as well as the atmosphere and how fast-paced it was. "If you want a guide, I've been to Kenmare and Ballycastle's stadiums."

Dominic too had chosen a flat in the magical world, largely because the amount and the kind of magic he used daily would have fried any electricity anyway, and possibly that of his neighbours. "I think I get more work done without it," he said. "If I'm bored of an evening, when I'm actually at home, I can't just turn the telly on and veg out - so I end up experimenting with work stuff. I still go to the cinema though. There's nothing quite like that."

He grinned and knocked his bottle lightly against her glass. "Congratulations. Now, do me a favour and if any of my friends come in wanting to buy me books tell them no. I've got more than I know what to do with!"
