Dear Melinda and Cho,

Thank you for the invitation, I know you said RSVPs aren't needed, but I can't make it and thought I'd send along a little something. I have no idea if either of you have any luck with plants but these are pretty hard to kill. As I said I can't make it as I have plans with my family for my own birthday, and I hope you have a wonderful time.

Dear Dean,
Thank you so very much for the plants. They are adorable, and as you say, pretty hard to kill; they will last a long, long time.

Of course, we're sad to hear that you can't be there, but we hope that you have a wonderful evening with your family and that you are celebrated properly.

I remember you talking about missing a madeleine pan, so when I found these on the market this morning, you came to mind. I'm sure you can make something good with them.
