Thread: Marcus and Pansy Lunch Date
Who: Pansy and Marcus
What: Lunch and gossip
Where: Bella's, an Italian restaurant in Diagon Alley
When: Wednesday afternoon
Rating: Probably SFW

"...if I don't have those papers in my office by three o'clock, Morgan, I'll be very unhappy." Pansy's voice was pleasant on the surface, but only an idiot would miss the underlying threat. Pansy Parkinson was not a woman to make unhappy. She disconnected the Floo, and looked at the clock. "Nattie, I'm going to lunch. You'll stay here, and as soon as those papers come bring them to me."

The little House Elf nodded, and Pansy dismissed her. Marcus would be here soon, and she was looking forward to lunch. It had been too long since she'd taken time for herself; this Nimbus account was eating every moment of spare time she had, especially because she had to deal with imbeciles like Anthony Morgan, who thought because she had breasts he could try to undersell her. She was going to have his balls on a platter by the time she was done.

She checked her appearance one last time, satisfied that the cut and color of her recent acquisition suited her perfectly. She and Marcus would make a striking couple out to lunch, and appearance was everything. She smoothed a few stray hairs into place and touched up her lipstick just as the door opened and Marcus entered.

"Darling, prompt as ever," she said, and air kissed his cheek. "I made reservations for us, so they should have a table waiting when we arrive."

Since she knew all about parents desiring sons to carry on the family name, she just pressed a little more against Marcus in the only form of comfort she could offer. "Let's not cloud today with talk of screaming, sticky children," she said, determined not to let either of them settle into a sulk. It was far too nice out, and they had far too much to discuss to dwell on the unpleasant.

"Mmm, I always enjoy Paris," she said, and it was true. She hadn't enjoyed the company she'd kept there, but there was just something about the city itself that called to her. She breezed through the door, then took his arm again as they began to walk towards Bella. The sun was warm, and she enjoyed the admiring looks sent their way as they moved along.

The truth was, Pansy hadn't done much recently that didn't also fall under the 'work' category. Even when she went out to a club, she was working. But since she didn't want to come across as a workaholic, she just gave him a coy smile. "Oh, this and that. How about you?" Her smile turned sly. "Tell me more about Davies' gallant save."

Chuckling at Pansy's suggestion, Marcus leaned back into her lightly as he easily agreed, "Fine by me, darling."

Nodding with a smile at her answer, he commented, "I haven't been out of London in what feels like ages, except for games." He loved his career, and wouldn't change it for the world, but professional Quidditch didn't leave much time for things like traveling for pleasure. As they walked, he was aware of the people looking at them - a lifetime of being reminded of the 'importance of reputation' made it impossible for him not to be, but he didn't bother acknowledging any of the individuals who stared as they passed.

He'd known Pansy long enough to understand that that sly smile was something to be wary of, and his instinct was proved correct at her comment. Letting out a sigh, he said, "I'm not sure what there really is to tell. I pissed off the other team's Beater, he threw his bat at me, Roger got in the way and instead of me getting a dislocated shoulder, he got a direct hit to the torso and fell to the ground."

"Tsk tsk, darling. All work and no play makes Marcus a very dull boy," she teased, heels clicking on the pavement. It was a powerful sound in her opinion, and a weapon in the right hands. "I have a gala in Milan at the end of the month, you can be my escort if it doesn't interfere with your Quidditch schedule." Despite her reputation, she did respect the dedication most players gave to the game. After all, she gave no less than that to her own career. Not that she'd been left with many other options, but no one had to know that.

She made a noncommittal noise in the back of her throat, not at all convinced by his attempt to downplay things. "I didn't realize Davies was so dedicated to his team that he'd injure himself," she said, then let the issue drop as they reached the restaurant. They were shown to their table immediately, and Pansy let Marcus pull out her chair. Once he was seated as well, she studied his face.

"He's quite nice looking, isn't he? Is he seeing anyone currently? I could use a bit of gallantry in my life."

He smiled at her comment and said, "But if the work leads to a championship, then it'll all be worth it. Besides, my work is to play."

Nodding his understanding, he answered, "I'm sure I can find a few days to join you if the schedule doesn't allow me to be there the entire time." It would be nice to break the monotony of practice and home and occasionally Finnigan's with random bouts of pining after Roger. Especially since that last was happening a little too frequently as of late.

Marcus knew better than to hope that Pansy hadn't noticed the way he'd tensed at her words. "I don't make a habit of keeping track of my teammates' romantic liaisons," he answered, and then fixed her with a hint of a glare.

"I have the highest confidence in your team darling, provided the heroics come to an end." It was a little known fact that Pansy Parkinson obsessively followed the Quidditch ranks, and could list the current standings if anyone asked. Appleby was currently in second place, even with Tutshill and Puddlemere tied for points. There was every possibility Appleby could finish in the championships.

Satisfied with that for an answer, and knowing she could find another date if Marcus' training interfered, but she hoped it wouldn't. "You're too good to me, Marcus. I'll send Nattie over with the details so you can get it on your calendar." And if he didn't have a calendar, she was happy to make on up for him. Pansy prized people who were organized.

And wasn't this just delightful, the way Marcus got all scowly and tense when she brought up Roger. "Oh, that's entirely too bad. He's very attractive, and it's been far too long since I've entertained a handsome Quidditch player on a personal level." She gave him an innocent grin. "Perhaps you could put in a good word for me? After all, he must thinking highly of you to have injured himself on your account."

Nodding his agreement to her assessment, Marcus answered, "The rankings look good, even considering how early we are in the season." Not that he needed to tell her that, since he was sure Pansy knew the standings almost as well as he did.

"She can stop by the manor and hand it off to Rakey," he answered. "Since I don't live there any more she relishes any opportunity to help." And unlike his mother, the house elf was actually a positive reason to stop by, even if she tried to feed him every time he was there.

Knowing better than to trust Pansy's smile - the one she got right before she took out someone's metaphorical kneecaps - he said, "I'm sure you could manage to entertain anyone you'd like. And there are plenty of Quidditch players." That was about as forceful as he could get on the topic, because anything more might reveal too much about his own feelings, and that wasn't something he was quite ready to face just yet.
