Who: Charlie & Theo
What: Charlie is poorly, Theo is worried
Where: Charlie's place
When: After this
Rating: TBD

Theo read Charlie's entry as it was posted and the first thing he thought of was the way Charlie gave no second thought to helping out someone else in need. He'd spent time and effort and supplies looking after Theo when he could have just as easily sent him to St Mungo's or called a Mediwitch or just left him there to deal with his stupidity on his own. He'd gone out of his way to come over and see what was wrong with the complete stranger on the other side of the street and Theo had been as bewildered by the show of compassion as he had been grateful for it.

Charlie was one of a kind and when Theo read about him suffering he couldn't just sit there and do nothing. He thought about sending his owl over at first but he convinced himself that bothering Charlie with his presence didn't outweigh the benefit of being there for him if he needed another body to look after him. He'd gotten together a little care package of sorts and had tied it into a bundle, handing it to his melanistic barn owl to carry. He had no idea where Charlie lived, but his owl did and he got up on a borrowed broom to follow the silent-winged bird to Charlie's door, calling it back from disturbing the man inside at the last moment.

The owl circled, indignant, then landed on Theo's outstretched arm, letting him untie the package with only half a dozen nips before it was free and allowed to return home. Theo shook his bitten hand out, pleased to see the owl hadn't drawn blood, before suddenly doubting his decision to arrive at all. What if Charlie had managed to find sleep in the time it had taken Theo to get to his place and Theo woke him up? What if he just wanted to be left alone to be sick on his own? What if the last person he'd want to see if he was sick but up for having guests was the kid who'd caused him so much trouble the last time they'd met?

He tried to turn the volume down on his fretting and knocked at the door, loud enough to be heard if Charlie was awake but hopefully not loud enough to wake him if he was asleep.

Charlie wasn't really awake, but nor was he really asleep. He was curled up under a well-worn patchwork blanket his parents had given him when he moved out, camped out on the living room sofa. Ostensibly he was reading, but he was drifting in and out of a doze, reading the same lines over and over again, rarely getting much further on. He'd ended up there after the second time he had to get out to the bathroom due to his increase in fluid intake (never let it be said that Molly Weasley hadn't coached her children on how to take care of themselves, even if it was done via her fussing). The sofa was closer than his bed, and it wasn't like he was sleeping well anyway, so he'd just flopped down and summoned the blanket, his book and his water, setting his crutches as close to the sofa as he could so nobody would trip over them.

He drifted back up out of sleep as the knocking came, blinking slightly stupidly. "Just a minute," he called, his voice managing to be simultaneously scratchy, rough, higher pitched than usual, and severely lacking in volume. Well, either they'd heard him or they hadn't.

He squinted at the closed curtains and guessed it was probably mid-morning. Not an unreasonable visiting time. Heaving himself up from his slump he glanced down before snaking an arm over to the side table and grabbing his wand, with which he summoned the 'nearest clean t-shirt', which turned out to be a pale blue one with a cartoon dragon emblazoned across the front. At this point he wasn't too fussed, even if it was something of a joke.

He bent, grabbing his crutches and pushed to his foot. His prosthetic was in his room. He'd never bothered putting it back on, and the mostly empty leg of his red and white checked pyjama trousers was buttoned up at the front of his thigh so that it didn't flap around and trip him. Originally he'd just cut off his pyjamas into shorts but that tended to get cold in the winter, and cutting only one leg just looked odd.

All of the moving took less than a minute and he was soon on his way to the door, balancing by habit on a leg and a crutch and opening the door. "Oh, Theo!" he said, still croaky and scratchy of voice, and very surprised by who he found outside.

Seeing Charlie answer the door and the sound of his voice like it had been dragged over broken glass made Theo regret having disturbed him at all - part of him catalogued away the cartoon dragon on the blue tshirt though and later on, when he was feeling particularly down, the memory of it would pop back up and make him smile and he wouldn't know why.

"Hey Charlie." he said with a smile that looked as worried as he felt. "I, uhm, I read that you weren't feeling too good. I made you a thing, here-" he held the little bundle out to the redhead. "It's just menthol rub, a couple of pain potions you can take together, something to clear your head a little and let you sleep. I'm really sorry I disturbed you. I should have just sent it by owl, I'm sorry, I'll go." he dissolved into apologies easily, looking pained at having dragged Charlie up. "How are you feeling? Is there anything you need before I leave? Anything I can get you?" it wasn't like him to ramble like this really but he felt honestly bad for disturbing Charlie and wanted to make reparations.

Charlie blinked a couple of times and would have scrubbed a hand over his beard if he'd had one to spare. As it was he was back to leaning on two crutches and bringing a hand up would likely result in Theo, who was clearly trying to be helpful, getting whacked with a piece of metal. He shook his head to clear his surprise.

"Um, thanks. You'd better come in and put it down. I don't have a spare hand right now," he said, gesturing Theo inside. "I'm feeling... well I'm still feeling pretty shit, but the PepperUp kicked in so it's slightly less like shit," he said. His voice was a little less horrific with every few words he spoke, the rasp evidently partly coming from lack of use overnight.

The flat opened almost directly onto the main living area, which was both the sitting area and the kitchen. "Sorry about the... mess," he said, referring to what was virtually a nest of blanket and supplies on the sofa and coffee table. He had basically been camped out there since he'd flopped on the way back from the bathroom. Even Echo had deigned to move from the comfort of Charlie's warm bed to the other end of the sofa, where Charlie's leg had been until recently.

As he hopped back into the flat, trusting Theo to close the door behind him, he frowned. "How'd you find me? Not that I mind, it's really thoughtful, but I didn't think you knew where I lived." He wasn't sure if it was just the pressure around his sinuses making his brain fog and forget or if he'd really not told Theo. It really was kind of nice to see him though. Even if, yet again, one of them was in distress of some kind.

Theo winced the more Charlie spoke because just the sound of it was painful, even if it cleared a little with use. He dutifully closed the door behind himself and then followed Charlie out into his flat, shaking his head at Charlie's apology immediately. "I'm sorry for dropping in on you unexpectedly; I didn't think that through." he apologised again. "Do you know what you have? You don't sound good at all."

He hadn't even thought about how weird or creepy it might have been for him to turn up at Charlie's place without having been given his address. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, with his thoughts on being there to at least leave Charlie with more supplies if not be there in case he needed somebody, but thinking about it now it did seem, well, a little stalkerish even if Charlie said he was okay with it.

"I followed my owl in, he carried this." he explained, lifting the little bundle of things he'd brought. "I'm sorry, I wasn't even thinking about that, I just wanted to bring this to you personally. I wanted to make sure you were okay." Shame and awkwardness had made Theo unusually verbose before Charlie, even if he looked about as uncomfortable as Charlie looked sick.

"'S just a bad cold. Maybe a bit of a flu-y edge to it. The club's a fucking disease jackpot," he said, before turning his head and coughing into his shoulder, which made him groan slightly. It thankfully cleared his voice a little more though. "Ugh, I'm a complete whiny bastard of a patient though, I'm well aware. At least with this sort of shit." He'd been stubborn as a Sphinx when he'd lost his leg, but with something that was actually pretty minor he just fell into it and wallowed.

He crossed back to the sofa and plopped down onto it, dropping his crutches, which failed to clatter only because of the rug the sofa sat on. "That makes sense," he said, as Theo explained how he'd found him, smiling slightly when he realised his voice was sounding relatively normal again, if a bit rough. "I really don't mind. I don't get so many non-family visitors. Although you really don't want this so I suggest not getting too close," he said. He waved vaguely at the soft chair available for sitting in. It didn't match the sofa in the slightest.

He scrunched up his eyes and then blinked a few times. "You want a drink? I can spell that from here," he said, smiling at Theo. He sort of hoped he would stay, at least for a little while.

A little frown appeared on Theo's face when he heard the cough, not sure if he believed what Charlie said but not having the medical knowledge to know any different. Okay, he could work with injuries and damage like an experienced medical combat veteran but he had no real knowledge about sickness and flu apart from the usual holistic treatments. "You must be feeling terrible." he said sympathetically, fretting as he was wont to do.

He watched Charlie sit and while he sounded a little better Theo was still unable to shake his worry. He was relieved that Charlie didn't find his stalkerish method of tracking him down as unnerving as Theo himself did and took a sear as Charle indicated.

"No, I'm okay, thank you." he reassured, partially because he didn't want to put Charlie to any trouble. "Do you want anything? Have you taken anything? Nothing will heal it but some of the stuff I brought might alleviate the symptoms?"

"I feel like someone has shoved a fuckload of cotton wool into the space around my eyes and is pressing on it from the front," Charlie said, pulling an eloquently disgusted face. "On the plus side visitors bearing gifts and an excuse to do fuck all."

Charlie was unsurprised somehow that Theo rejected a drink. He really seemed not to want to go out of his way to bother anyone. Charlie had water on the table already and illness was one of the few times he rejected coffee, mostly because it tended to make him feel slightly sick. Tea, thankfully, was fine.

"Nah, I have water," he said, gesturing to the side table. "Might put some tea on in a bit. I've had PepperUp, and been drinking plenty. Tea with honey and lemon in a bit. Soup. That sort of thing. And cuddles with Echo," he said, smiling as the cat uncurled and made a little noise of enquiry before padding right across Charlie's lap without pausing to appreciate the automatically stroking hand and over the side of the sofa to investigate the newcomer. "I think my friend who's a healer is probably going to send me something, and whatever you've brought with you - thank you by the way - I'm sure that'll help too."

He reached over and grabbed his water glass to ward off the slight tickle threatening his throat again, taking a couple of sips. "That would be Echo," he said, the cat chirping obligingly to show off his name. "He's pretty damn friendly and likes investigating new people. Makes for a good hot water bottle too." Echo had walked over and was sniffing curiously at Theo's legs and feet.

Theo winced at Charlie's description, because he knew how that felt and he wouldn't wish it on anyone. He still managed to find space between his worry and his upset to appreciate and be a little awed by Charlie's optimism - he'd never seen anything like it and it was refreshing to hear.

He looked to the water as Charlie gestured to it having not really registered it as there before but he was ready to get up and make tea immediately if Charlie had wanted it. He was about to say as such when his attention was directed towards the cat, his instinct to reach out to it but his hard-learned lessons telling him to keep his hands to himself as though he was some sort of curse when it came to animals.

He watched the cat move across and leaned his weight back and away from it like that would keep it safe from the dangers he imagined he posed. "No thanks needed." he brushed off. "I can get the tea on for you as well, if you let me know when you're feeling like having some, if you don't mind me in your kitchen." he didn't like not being able to wave his wand and magic Charlie better - this helpnessness made him feel uncomfortable and on edge.

He bit the corner of his bottom lip as Charlie leaned over to get a drink, that sense of needing to help warring with his common sense that told him that Charlie was perfectly capable of doing that himself even if he was sick, and probably wouldn't appreciate being babied either. He looked back down at the cat instead, amused despite himself when it mewed in response to its name like its namesake. "Is there any Siamese in him?" he asked, knowing those cats to be vocal. He wanted to reach down and let the animal sniff at his hand as well to introduce himself but he couldn't bring himself to bend down and reach out. Didn't move to stop it from smelling him though, or from jumping up if it took a mind to do so.

"You're too kind," he said. "Really, I can make tea from here pretty much." He could too, although it would be annoying magical tea which was fine but not quite the best. And he wasn't dizzy so standing wasn't a problem, he mostly just felt miserable. "Although I wouldn't say no to tea in a bit if you really don't mind," he hazarded after a few seconds. "Please make one for yourself too. Mugs are above the draw with the spoons in. So's the tea. Pot's on the side. Honey in the one to the left of the mugs. I think the lemons are with the drinks stuff," he said, gesturing vaguely to a table in the corner of the room with an assortment of alcohol, mixers and some lemons and limes for wedges and the like. This is what happened when you were a club owner living with a regular party goer.

Charlie was slightly worried at first that Theo wasn't a fan of cats when he leaned away, but then he smiled at Echo and Charlie found himself relaxing slightly. He shrugged at the question. "Not a clue, Luna Lovegood had some kittens dumped on her, or found them or something. I rescued one. No idea what his parents were never mind further back. I get what you mean with the voice though, although he's not so shrill." Something caught Charlie's throat and he coughed slightly. A sip of water calmed it down again thankfully.

Echo, apparently satisfied with the investigation of Theo's feet and legs, jumped up lightly into the small space on the cushion as a pathway to the arm of the chair, where he sniffed curiously at Theo's arm for a few seconds. Charlie could tell he wasn't quite sure of Theo. That probably meant he'd either come back to Charlie on the sofa or settle on the back of the chair instead of plopping into Theo's lap, unless the other man made any overtures towards him.

Just then there was a tapping sound at the window, closed tight due to Charlie's illness. He looked over and spotted an owl. He groaned. Probably Ali sending something. "Would you mind letting the owl in?" he asked. "It's by the right window, but Nebula was back before I got in so I closed up last night," he said.

Theo shook his head, bashful at the praise that he didn't feel he deserved. He didn't want to push his help onto Charlie so he was relieved when the man gave him an out. "I don't mind at all, it's really not a problem. I'm okay though, just let me know when you fancy one and I'll get it made for you, it's not a problem at all." he reclarified, hoping that his decline wouldn't push Charlie into changing his mind. He had the layout down after hearing Charlie explain it and he was ready to be helpful if he needed to be.

Theo thought he remembered something like that, but he had no idea if that had been a different litter altogether. He agreed with the assessment of Echo's little mew, not the strident demand that most Siamese seemed to take sheer pleasure in using just as their owner sat down and made themselves comfortable. He was distracted from the cat by Charlie coughing, but he didn't seem to be in distress and when he looked back the cat had just jumped up. He was right there and Theo couldn't hold back anymore, reaching his hand out and extending his fingers towards the cat to say hallo.

He jumped a little when there was a tap at he window and then felt stupid for having done so. "Not at all." he reassured and then went over to do so, taking the package from the Owl and handing it over to Charlie. "Did you want me to send the owl back or would you like me to send it back with a message?" he asked.

Charlie shrugged. "Well, feel free if you want one when I do anyhow," he said. He felt bad drinking tea when Theo wasn't. The water bothered him less because he counted it as part of his medication for his illness. Plus it was stopping him coughing too much.

Echo stilled as the fingers came towards him before slowly stretching his neck forward and sniffing at them for a few seconds before obviously deeming them acceptable. He took a couple of steps forward and butted his head at the fingers, demanding some sort of stroking or scritching. Or just a good head rub. He wasn't an endless lap cat, but he could get pretty demanding about affection when he wanted it.

Charlie watched the show, smiling softly as Theo gained Echo's trust. Echo was fairly easy going, and Charlie liked seeing him interact with other people. There was something nervous about Theo's response to him, but he had a feeling he really did like the idea of the cat.

He smiled in thanks as Theo got up to answer the window, hiding his wince at the jump Theo had given. He muttered his thanks and pulled open the note and snorted when he read it. "Give me second and I'll write a reply," he said, picking up his wand and summoning quill and parchment, scrawling out a reassurance for his friend and folding it for the owl to take. He handed it to Theo with a smile. "There are treats..." he trailed off, unable to remember where he'd left them. Sometimes they were in the kitchen, but sometimes he took the bag into his room for Nebula and left it in his draw. "Actually I'm not sure where they are," he said apologetically, rubbing at his face fingers scratching the edge of his hairline for a few seconds. He shook his head. Nope, no idea, and he didn't actually fancy Theo going into his room if they were in there. They didn't know each other all that well yet.

"It'll have to do without, or it'll swipe something. Actually anything that's left out is probably fair game anyway."

"Thank you." Theo smiled, the expression looking a little unsure but at least it was still there. He wasn't a big tea drinker but then he didn't really like to eat or drink at all as a rule, not since the Janus Thickey ward and memories of his mouth filled with what felt like pebbles and tasted like pennies until they healed it all up again.

The cat drew and held his attention and as much as he was tentative about touching that which wasn't his, he visibly didn't so much relax as untense and even huffed the barest whisper of a chuckle as the cat decided it should have been given a little pet by now. Theo obliged the animal, keeping his movements gentle and paying attention to Echo's ears and the side of his cheek where cats usually liked to be scritched. There was a look of honest delight in Theo's eyes at the simple interaction and some of the shadows that tended to haunt Theo were banished as he momentarily let himself be drawn into trying to make the cat purr.

After passing the note to Charlie he sat and waited patiently while the other man responded and readied his reply. Theo took it and moved to attach it to the owl, doing so without being bitten although the bird seemed a little fidgety as he handled it. "Oh, I think..." Theo reached into one of his pockets and found a crumb or two of the treats that his own owl was never interested in until they suddenly stopped being available. "It's a bit dusty but I guess it doesn't mind." he said as the bird nipped up the meagre offering and took off.

Charlie dragged his blanket back around his shoulders as a shiver ran through him. He knew he'd be back to sweltering again in a few minutes, but it was at least part comfort that had him reaching for the blanket anyway. He was absently watching as Theo interacted with Echo. He didn't exactly look comfortable, but Charlie had gained the impression that Theo rarely looked comfortable, so the fact there seemed to be real joy lingering around his features was a positive step at least. As Echo finally tired of actually demanding the attention he curled up into a black fuzzy circle on the wide arm of the chair. Clearly he approved of Theo. At least as far as providing attention was concerned.

"I'm sure Ali'll tell me if she gets a grumpy bird back," he said with a shrug. "Well, that or she won't notice. I'm pretty sure she has more things to deal with than a mildly pissed off owl! You know. Twins in the house and all that."

Looking down at the box the owl had delivered he read through the instructions and pulled a face. Even though she was younger than him her position as a Healer and someone he trusted always made him inclined to follow Alicia's instructions. Still didn't mean he looked forward to them though. "Seems some of my tea is being replaced by muggle remedies," he said.

Absently he dug two fingers into the tightness all around his sinuses, massaging firmly, even though it wasn't really helping.

Theo knew how it was to tire of attention and he let the cat decide when it had been fussed over enough, although the way he watched it curl up close by made it clear that he would have happily kept petting Echo for longer. Animals had never fared well in the Nott home, but while he was always unsure around them now there was a kind of understanding of animals inside Theo that hinted at a soppy side to him, had he been allowed to keep such things as sentimentality.

He nodded feeling a little concerned that he would now have caused problems for 'Ali', even if it did sound like she already had her hands full. He didn't really have any first hand knowledge of what trying to control two small children was like, but he knew his dad had enough trouble with him alone and didn't envy anyone who had two to cope with. He was curious about the box Charlie had but wasn't thoughtless enough to show it. "Oh?" he queried though, the idea of using Muggle remedies having not crossed his mind and only yanking his curiosity yet again.

He winced in sympathy as Charlie rubbed at his face in a manner that looked painful and he tried to think back on anything he knew that would help. "Can I get something for you?" he fretted. "Breathing in steamed peppermint is supposed to be beneficial to cold and flu."

"Yeah, like I said Alicia's a healer. She used to work for the Quidditch League but she's retraining a bit, something about a muggle technique that she's hoping to combine for speedier healing from sports type injuries," he realised he was rambling and shook his head slightly. "Which is probably shit all use to you. Basically this is some sort of muggle cold and flu remedy that's not going to fuck with the PepperUp," he said, and offered Theo the box to look at.

Charlie grunted nonsensically. "Sorry, I'm being shit company, aren't I?" he mumbled. "Maybe could make one of those up for me. Looks like it's sort of along the same lines as tea but without the twatting around with steeping. Empty packet, add boiling water and stir."

He could feel himself returning to being grumpy and whiny, or more so, in a way he was rarely unless he felt this type of ill. That wasn't so much a problem though. The problem was that he was beginning to feel increasingly self-conscious about the fact he didn't have his prosthetic on. He wasn't embarrassed by his injury, but people seeing him without his prosthetic often felt very intimate. At least he had his leg covered. Still he shuffled himself back around and shifted the blanket so it was over his legs. It wasn't like Theo was unaware of his state, but he'd previously only seen him with his second leg on (if a bit dislodged in one instance). The only people who he could say he was used to seeing him without his leg were family (all of whom had put in enough appearances at the Burrow before he'd had it fitted that it seemed normal) and Romi. Others had seen him without it on occasions of course. And there had been the month or so after his new tattoo where he'd been going around without it, but he hadn't been wearing pyjamas then, and he'd been expecting to be seen.

He snuffled slightly and grabbed a handkerchief, attempting to quietly clear his nose. He failed at both being quiet and clearing his nose. Echo's head shifted upwards and the cat eyed him, looking rather unimpressed, before sticking his head back into the tight curl of his legs and body.

The idea made sense even though Theo wouldn't have been able to comment, knowing next to nothing about the Muggle world - it hadn't been for lack of curiosity, no one could say that about Theodore Nott, but at the time with the politics and backstabbers flying around and, oh yeah, the fact that his father would have likely killed him for doing so, it was nearly impossible for him to have taken a class. Years later and with his life no longer under threat should he do as he wished and Theo was still lacking in that subject. Time at the Janus Thickey ward had made it so that he'd had to struggle just to bring himself back to some semblance of normal, nevermind retrain his mind back from the wounds it had sustained and finally succumbed from so that he could function with almost the same level of intelligence he'd had back in Hogwarts. Even now there were parts of his mind still raw and infected, as proven by his constant night terrors, the sleepwalking, the more than occassional lapses in coherency, a host of symptoms indicating that although he'd been released as fine he was still a far way from it.

Maybe he could take some time at some point and do some research into it. Maybe. As it was, he could see the logic behind taking the best from both worlds and trying to expore new options, even if there was some deeply buried mistrust still within him about the Muggles, accompanied by the faint smell of smoke and burning meat. He took the box from Charlie as though it was some rare potions ingredient, turning it about and looking at the ingredients with confusion and rabid curiosity both.

It was probably for the best that Charlie distracted him from the box with his apologies. He shook his head. "Not at all. I showed up uninvited and I knew you were unwell; I didn't come for entertainment." he said, as gently as he could. "I can do that, sure." he agreed, taking up the box and making his way to the kitchen to do just that. He might not have known anything about Muggles but he was good at following instructions and he had the cup of lemony smelling stuff ready in no time. He hung around in the kitchen while the kettle boiled, his hypervigilance not letting him miss the strain in Charlie's manner and guessing that he'd outstayed any benefit he might have being there.

He added a bit of cold water so that Charlie wouldn't scald his mouth and then brought the mug through in time to see Echo reshuffle herself. He held the cup carefully, waiting for Charlie to reach for it before handing it over, not wanting to cause injury. "Do you need anything else? I could make you that tea with that, if you wanted?" He asked, concerned in his own slightly repressed way, not sitting back down. "I don't want to wear you out. I didn't mean to stay so long I just... thought I should make sure you were okay." This last came out a little shy as though he suddenly realised how open he was being and shut down a little in a long-cultivated instinct to protect himself from being too vulnerable.

The fact that Theo seemed to be incredibly curious about the muggle remedy didn't pass him by. He wasn't entirely sure but, from what he knew of the fact that his father had been (accused) of being a Death Eater in the previous war and proven to be one in the more recent one, he rather suspected any interest in muggle anything had been actively discouraged. So unlike his own home, where his father's obsessive curiosity was normal to him. Both of his parents had been muggle friendly, if not necessarily properly muggle conversant. All of their children were a pretty knowledgeable as far as magic folk went.

"It was nice to see a friendly face though. I'm just hoping you've not been here for long enough to get whatever this is," he said. "Nobody needs to get this shit," he added fervently. He curled himself up under the blanket, his remaining knee curling up towards his chest. It was only possible to stay like that for a certain amount of time because he had to press his foot into the sofa for balance, but it suited his mood and seemed natural. It was one of those things he'd had to relearn after he lost his leg.

He was thankful Theo hadn't nudged Echo's bowl when he was in the kitchen. He'd only have been attacked by an enthusiastic cat wanting food that he'd already been given. Charlie knew the bowl was probably still at least part full since he'd already fed him, but the little git was insistent he wanted new food.

He smiled when Theo handed him the mug of hot lemony goodness. "Thank you," he said, inhaling the steam as his hands began to warm from the mug. Hot mugs had nothing on the heat produced from dragonfire (even when the latter was only felt through fireproof gloves). Still, he was planning to leave it a while before attempting a sip.

Charlie shook his head, "No thanks, with this and my water I won't want tea for a while and your hard work will just end up cold," he said. He saw that Theo was hovering nervously, obviously feeling like he'd outstayed his welcome, and if he was honest Charlie sort of wanted to be alone again. He'd enjoyed Theo's visit, more than he might have expected for someone he didn't yet know very well. Perhaps this seeing each other in terrible circumstances thing had sped up the level of comfort between them?

"I..." he sighed. "I'm a miserable bastard when I'm sick, like I said. I don't want to subject you to that, or whatthefuckever this is." He frowned at himself and winced, he knew it sounded like he was trying to throw Theo out and he wasn't, not really. He groaned. "Sorry, I'm not trying to make you leave. I just think I'm shit company right now." He paused trying to implore Theo he didn't know what with only his eyes. "It really is good to see you, I just... I'm fuck all good with words sometimes. There's more than just the fact I liked them as the reason I went to work with dragons," he said. He carefully transferred the mug he'd just been handed to the coffee table and shuffled himself back into a more normal sitting position.

"Feel free to stop me talking utter bollocks at any point," he said, resigned to the fact he sounded like an utter tit right now.

(ooc: so I have a confession to make - I have been late to respond because I read your little ficlet pretty much every day and all I want to do is read you writing them more and than I just fail at life! lol I'll try and get a hold of myself because I love playing with you and you and I want to play them damnit! I'm so sorry! I'll do better!)

The possibility of getting whatever it was that Charlie had was unfortunately higher for Theo than it would have been ordinarily, his background of malnourishment and then a stint in Azkaban and the Janus Thickey ward alongside his aversion to eating meant that his immune system was rickety at the best of times. Then again, he was sick enough that he probably wouldn't notice if he'd caught the next plague from Charlie or anyone else he passed in the street. He wasn't about to tell his patient-cum-host that though and he shook his head. "I'm sure I'll be fine." he said without doubt and ducked his head a little at the gratitude after he'd handed Charlie the Muggle remedy.

Theo was impressed at how nonchalantly Charlie held his mug when he himself could only hold a hot cup by the handle or after pulling his sleeves down around his hands. "If you're sure." he said, leaving a chance for Charlie to change his mind if he wanted to. He was a bit taken aback at Charlie's apology, completely unrequired in any case and especially when Charlie had been nothing but polite and good natured despite clearly feeling unwell.

He understood what Charlie was trying to say and he didn't take offense in the least, but there was something helplessly sweet about Charlie's verbal stumbling and Theo couldn't hide the almost fond little quirk of a smile that the reaction provoked out of him. He tried to even it out into a more understanding expression because he didn't want to Charlie to think he was laughing at him; "You're okay." he assured. "I know you're not, I've got no expectations of you right now, it's okay." Something inside him warmed at Charlie's spoken affirmation that it was good to see him and he didn't know what it was or why but it made it a little harder to swallow momentarily. "I'm glad I got to see that you're okay, well, to a degree. And it really is okay; I know what you mean about not being good with words." Not that Theo was necessarily bad with them, he'd just been taught to hold his tongue so wholly that it was hard for him now to remember he was allowed to talk. This chat with Charlie was the most he'd spoken in months. "I know that it's no fun being sick; I can let you rest and go if you'd like me to or I can stay if you want the company - whatever you want, I'm happy with whatever you decide."

(ooc: Aww, but that's a cute confession! I love that you love it so much. I can't do this without you though. There's only so much Theo I can even make an attempt at! And I love writing with you.)

Over a decade of working with dragons meant that Charlie didn't recognise burning heat the same way as other people, even in his hands. Dragonhide gloves, like the ones he had always worn and maintained protected your hands from actually burning, but they still allowed you to register a certain amount of heat. It was great for his abilities in cooking and handling anything hot, but not so great for judging safe bathing temperatures or fine sensations on occasion.

He smiled at Theo and shifted slightly on the sofa, feeling the slight protest in some of his muscles. "Honestly, as much as this has been amazing I think I should probably try and nap once I'm done with my drink. I didn't sleep well." His tone was slightly sad, he almost wanted Theo to stay and keep him company, but he really did think he was going to drift off again soon and having Theo here while he slept. Actually it didn't sound like the world's worst idea, which was disconcerting. His eyes widened and then his gaze darted around the room. That was pretty unexpected. He often felt pretty vulnerable when he slept because he couldn't do so with two legs. The idea that he might trust Theo to be here while he napped was discomforting. That didn't often happen outside of close family and friends. He swallowed.

"I think it might be better if you get going," he croaked, reaching and sipping his remedy to clear his throat. "I don't want you to be bored, even if it was great to see you."

"It's okay." Theo assured easily and with a little more worry than was needed. He knew from sleeping problems and he certainly wouldn't wish them on Charlie. "Sleep has to be good for you right now." Probably. "You don't have to worry about my entertainment, that's not why I came over." he fretted a little, getting up and making sure he had everything, trying not to neaten things up a little bit.

"I'm going to go. Are you sure there's nothing else you need before I do? Did you wnat me to send you over anything tomorrow?" He was probably only so concerned because Charlie looked so poorly and Theo didn't really know how to look after someone.

((ooc: so I'm late and it's small and I SUCK! But I still want to play with you, all the time, right now, all the things, all the time))

Charlie sipped his the hot lemon and made a tiny noise as the heat caught against his slightly raw throat. "Okay, so I'm less able to drink burningly hot liquids when ill," he said, frowning ruefully. "I'll wait another few minutes."

"Yeah, sleep should help. Or at least it won't fucking hurt at all," he said with a mild groan. His aching body definitely seemed to agree with his words.

He shook his head. "No, no, please, you've done more than enough already. It was great seeing you." He smiled at Theo. "Only, do you mind letting yourself out?" he asked. "I'm kinda comfy and I don't want to move and cough or something."

((ooc: See your email, which I will send soon))
