Adrian had shown up at Ali's house early on Saturday morning and packed a bag for both of them (he had plenty of things there, hadn't needed to worry about it before he left his flat) much to her confusion. He'd only smiled at her and made sure to double check that the nanny didn't mind staying overnight like he'd discussed with her earlier in the week. She gave him a hug and said of course and Adrian turned back to Ali's room and told her to say goodnight to the twins.

With a 'look' she did so, the kids just grinning at her through their giggles (he'd told them he was taking her away for the weekend, too, making them feel like they were in on the secret).

It was a year ago (well, on the 27th) that they had gone to Rome and decided "officially" that they were "together". They had of course been together before that but without a definitive anniversary, Adrian had decided this would do.

"Close your eyes," he told her, their bag shrunk and in his pocket, before he stepped up to wrap his arms around her and apparate them directly to the condo his parents owned in Rome, with the sweeping cityscape views that she'd so fallen in love with a year before.

Alicia shrugged with a look of mock-coyness. “Up until a year ago I would have claimed it was,” she said. “Now? Now I-“

But then Adrian held up a key for her to see, and her eyes went wide as she drew in an impressed breath. “Good Godric, Adrian!” She gushed. “You finished moving your lab already?” Because obviously, this key was to his flat, and this was his way of letting her know that he was ready for her and the twins to move in.

Alicia pulled back a little to look at Adrian. “I thought you were moving it down-“ Her eyes widen briefly, then narrowed in thought. “The house?” she said slowly. The whole point of her moving in with him had been to get out of the house and away from the history and the guilt of moving on with another man in the house Daniel had given her. “Which house?”

"It's a beautiful house that happened to be on sale by its Muggle owners when a lovely witch showed it to me on a walk one day," he said, his face showing his nerves. "I had Richard help me with the paperwork and the purchase, and Romilda Vane's lawyer friend finalized things for me a few days ago," his voice was a bit thing. Had this been the stupidest idea ever? She'd said she'd be willing to talk about moving in together, and Adrian had no doubt he wanted the twins to grow up in that house, with both Alicia and him.

Slowly it began dawning on her. As if in a daze, Alicia looked down at the key in Adrian’s hand, then back up at him. Drawing in a deep breath, she covered her mouth with her hand. “You bought the yellow palace?” she whispered, her heart pounding and the happy and overwhelmed tears began welling up in her eyes. “You amazingly, fantastic, and absolutely insanely wonderful man,” with a hand on his cheek she looked him in the eyes. “You bought the yellow palace. For us?” By now she was smiling happily through her tears when she leaned in to kiss him. “I love you, Adrian. Not because of the house, but you bought the yellow palace.”

When he saw her eyes shining like that, his own got damp as well, "Does this mean I didn't screw up?" He grinned, genuinely, up at her and let out a breath he'd been holding while she worked things out.

He nodded, "I bought your palace, in the desperate hope you might let a villain like me lay my head there with you," he said, feeling foolish and lucky and unbelieving. "Is that a yes?" he asked, his own tears threatening to spill.

Alicia nodded; yes, it meant he hadn’t screwed up, and yes, that was a yes, and really, she couldn’t find any words that would fully do any of this justice. She wasn’t actually certain she could even find her voice at this point.

“Yes,” she whispered, still nodding as she cupped his cheek again, so she could kiss him. She kept her forehead pressed against his, as her thumb brushed over his cheek bone. “You’re not a villain,” she whispered. “But I’ll let you in anyway.”

"Phew," Adrian said, jokingly, swallowing so as to stop himself from almost-crying, "Good thing," he said, "As I've already started turning my building into a potions lab," he laughed.

"It's not too much? Too soon?" He looked her in the eye, straightening them both up a bit, "Alicia," his demeanor grew more serious, "I want the twins to grow up in that place. I want to bring magic there and I want to do with it you. If you don't want me to be part of it, just say the word, it's your home either way if you want it, because you deserve the palace of your dreams." He took a breath, "When we came here last year, I knew that this was bigger than anything else I'd ever done in my life, I knew that being with you would change my life, but I had no idea I'd want to share everything in life with you." He stopped himself, feeling other words coming on that he wasn't prepared to say just yet - and, he thought, she might not be prepared to hear just yet. But the sentiment was the same - he wanted to share his entire life with her, no matter what that looked like.

Alicia scrunched up her nose as she giggled. This was overwhelming and yet she felt as light as the champagne bubbles that were sliding along the inside of her glass. Reaching over to the table, she put the glass down, and move Adrian’s away, too.

“It’s our home,” she corrected him. “Not mine, ours. It’s big and it’s too much and probably too soon, too, but I don’t care.” Her eyes were shining as she looked at him. “I want to spend our lives there, and I want you to have a bigger part in the twins lives than you do now, if you want it.” She couldn’t stop looking at him, couldn’t stop her happy tears, and she couldn’t stop touching his cheek. “You did all this,” she whispered, awestruck by the lengths he had gone to.
