Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: aidan lynch, character: luna lovegood, character: theodore nott

Who: Aidan, Luna, and Theo
What: Dinner
Where: Aidan's flat
When: Tuesday evening, 9/22
Rating: SFW

Aidan had no idea what he was doing. He invited Luna over for supper with he and Theo, making sure it was okay with Theo, but he was nervous now. What if he made something so horrible tasting? Aidan was certain Luna would never talk to him again. Okay, perhaps he was being a bit dramatic. He couldn't help but pace in-between the time it took for sauces to simmer and all that cooking entailed.

What if Luna didn't like Theo? What if Theo didn't like Luna? That could be awkward. Although he'd only known Luna shortly, she didn't seem the type that wouldn't not like someone. Theo would probably just leave. He was over-thinking again. Aidan needed to stop thinking and get himself ready before Luna showed up. He had 15 minutes! "Bloody hell!" he said out loud and turned the cooking over to Theo while he went to change.

It took him ten minutes to look presentable. He wished for more time, but he made do. He only hoped Luna would still like him after this evening.

Aidan was glad to have Theo around, he was reassuring. Aidan couldn't help but have a dopey grin on his face as he answered the door. "Sorry about the wait," he said sheepishly, "Come in, come in. Thank you for dessert. It was very kind of you." Once she was inside, he shut the door behind her.

Aidan didn't know what to do with himself, so he led her into the main living area of his house. "Welcome," he said simply to Luna. "How's your day been so far?"

Handing over the tart to Theo, she slipped inside. "Oh it's okay, I don't mind. And you're welcome. It was the least I could do when someone's agreed to feed me." She laughed a little.

Following Aidan into the house, she glanced around and took it all in. It wasn't as eccentric as her own house (no one's house was as crazy as hers, save maybe the Burrow but whatever) but she liked what she saw. "Your place is lovely. It's been a good day. Mostly trying not to eat too much and spoil my dinner. Oh and I watched some puppies being born. It was nice."

Theo put the tart in the chilled cabinet and then came back into the living area on quiet feet like the cats who followed in his wake. He could socialise it up with the best of them, or had been able to until he'd been cracked and broken at the end of the War. Old habits died hard, but he didn't think Aidan or his guest would want to deal with the distant, cold figure that he had been at parties.

He came in and loitered a little, letting the pair talk. "Luna, would you like a drink? Aidan?" He asked, happy to play butler for the moment.

Aidan nodded at what Luna had been saying, "What kind of puppies?" A part of Aidan thought this situation to be very funny; he knew he was very upbeat, and Luna was, and poor Theo was stuck with such a duo. He gestured for Luna to sit on a couch, "Have a seat, please; you too, Theo." He didn't want Theo to feel regulated to helping serve; it was his home too. Aidan's mind was whirring too fast to remember proper host etiquette. He was grateful to Theo for being there and remembering.

"They're Saint Bernard puppies. Giant things, but so cute. They're all resting comfortably in my office." Because she had decided they needed to be there instead of being in one of the cubicles for injured pets. They might tear up the office, but magic would certainly right that pretty fast. She wasn't all that worried about it. The whole place smelled like animal anyway.

"Oh um, I'm good for now. Thank you, Theo. Yes please, have a seat." She slipped down onto the couch as well. "How long have you two lived together?"

Theo hadn't meant to show Aidan up and he was suddenly worried that he had. He was surprised once again to be asked to sit in with the other two and he took a seat with almost delicate uncertainty and a quiet 'thank you'. He was interested in hearing about this puppy situation - he always had a soft spot for animals - and hearing that Luna had kept them in her office confirmed what little he recalled about her being an inoffensive and gentle natured person.

He cast a look to Aidan at that question, happy to let him lead with whatever he wished to reply; he was a little lost when he wasn't expected to be standoffish and when the people he was around weren't trying to play mind games with each other.

Aidan had to stop and think, "erm... a month, I believe." It hadn't felt like very long. Theo was a good flatmate, even if he was quiet. "What do you do with such large puppies? Won't they outgrow your office like... next week?" He knew they were a large breed and grew rather fast.

"That's nice. I've always thought about getting a roommate." Or well at least now that her father was gone, she thought about it more than she didn't. "I'm sure that they will outgrow my office, but they have to be a certain age before we can try to find them homes. So they will be running around the vet's until I can find a place for each. It's a handful, but I'm happy to do it. The mother doesn't really have anywhere else to go."

"Aidan's a good person, an outstanding roommate." He said with a smile. It hadn't felt like a month to Theo either, and he was simultaneously happy - because he seemed to get on well with Aidan and things seemed to be working out for them living together - but guilty - because he was still without employment and hadn't paid rent. Now he really felt as though he should be waiting on the couple just to make up for the room and board he was taking.

"I'm sorry to hear that." He offered, feeling for an abandoned mother and Luna herself with the prospect of housing large and bouncy puppies for the near future. "It's kind of you to keep them on."

Aidan agreed, "That is very kind of you. And brave. All those puppies..." he said with a chuckle. He was starting to relax a little. Maybe he had fretted over nothing. Of course he did. "What other animals do you have right now?"

Luna beamed a bit, a faint blush on her cheeks. "Well thank you. I'd say it's my job, but really I would do it, even if it wasn't. They're very sweet either way." They just needed some nursing and attention before they made their way into the world.

"Let's see. We have many owls. A thestral, two nifflers and of course I'm still looking after the hippogriff's that were nearly lost in the mud a couple of weeks ago," she answered.

Coming from some people that comment might have provoked disbelief, but when it came from someone like Luna, Theo could believe that she really would do it even if she wasn't paid to.

He was curious about the answer to Aidan's question, that natural pull he had towards animals showing again even as he pushed it down at the same time, reminding himself that he wasn't good for animals, shouldn't be around them unless he wanted a repeat of last time.

This small bit of berating happened in almost a heartbeat, internal dialogue that was said and forgotten immediately; his interest was instantly piqued by the mention of thestrals. He'd been able to see them for what felt like forever and had indeed been since before he'd started Hogwarts. He knew that Luna had been able to see them to, and had no doubt that a lot more people know than then could see them after the war, but he'd always had a fascination with the animals that bordered on obssession.

"You have a thestral?" He queried, trying to be unobtrusive.
