Rewards for doing the books
Who: Charlie Weasley, Seamus Finnigan, ?Dean Thomas, open
What: Doing the book deserves a drink
Where: Finnigan's - Common Room
When: Late afternoon/early evening
Rating: NSFW - language

After spending his 'weekend' (Monday and Tuesday to everybody else) relaxing, Charlie spent his now traditional Wednesday afternoon looking over the books. He had spent time running through and comparing the takings from the bar, the cloakroom, and the door with previous weeks, and looking at the days against one another. It looked like things were on track for him to pay back the small loan he'd taken out from Gringotts to supplement his own investment in plenty of time, which the goblins always appreciated. He noted, with pleasure, that numbers and profits were steady, if not rising slightly after the initial drop off after the opening weekend.

Now, however, it was time for a drink. After all the wrangling with numbers his head was starting to spin slightly and drinking his own merchandise was only going to hurt his profit margins so he closed up the books and warded both his office and the club itself and set off for the short walk to Finnigan's.

Arriving he made his way to the bar and dropped himself on a free stool, feeling the tension of business begin to drop away from him in the cosy surroundings of the pub.

Dean sighed, relaxing into Seamus' side and resting his hand, especially now his subject had moved. "Yeah, I guess, but I said I'd think about it, so I still have to bring it up with her." He tucked his head into Seamus side. "I actually thought about it, which I half didn't want to, but she's family, she deserves that much, but I can't do it." He was sort of sad that he wouldn't be able to do it, he adored Susan, but he really didn't think it would be good for his mental health, especially at the moment.

"Yeah? I should make sure she gets a hug when she's on duty for me, I guess. I'd say she can have cookies but I've been sleeping like the dead." Not that that was always a good thing, it usually ended up meaning he would get an absolutely horrific nightmare at some point.

Seamus didn't have to move much to add his other arm to their tangle of limbs - hugging Dean as much as he could when one of them was sitting on a stool and the other was standing. He had to stretch a little to rest his chin on Dean's head but he managed it. "And now you've thought about it," Seamus said, his tone making it obvious that that was final. "And when you tell her, she's not going to mind." He tightened his arms around Dean, wishing he could convince him with mere words that everything was going to be okay.

Dean's words brought back images only too recently preying on Seamus's mind and he shuddered - but didn't let go. Dean was alive. Alive and well and no one was looking to change that, not anymore. "Some people think sleep is a good thing," he pointed out mildly, even though they were both well acquainted with the ways it could be the opposite. "We'll get her up here for a group hug at some point. Round up as many as we can. Turn my flat into the Hufflepuff common room for a night." He smiled at the image of all his friends squishing into his small space together. It was definitely a good idea. "For now, I prescribe Finnigan's Famous Chicken and Mushroom Sauce followed by cuddles on the couch. Sound good?"

Dean went to wrap a second arm around Seamus but looked at his fingers and made a face at the charcoal smudges. "Yeah, I know."

"That sounds like an excellent idea," he said smiling broadly. "The group hug and the plan for the evening. All of the hugging and cuddles. You know me, I'm a fan."

Dropping the subject, Seamus wriggled away and returned to his saucepan, adding soured cream and various other ingredients until the sauce was actually sauce-like in consistency. "Nearly ready," he announced. "You want to eat at the counter or on the couch?"

"Counter, no couch, let me wash my hands first though," he wriggled his smudged hands in Seamus' direction, tucking the charcoal in the sketchbook and leaving it on the counter as he stood up.

"Smells good too," he said, looking over Seamus shoulder on the way to the sink. He moved along and washed up quickly, then waved the plates down and warmed them slightly with magic.

"Shit," Seamus said, pulling the mushroom sauce off the heat. He'd realised once Dean had stopped distracting him with cuddles that he should probably have made some kind of accompaniment to their meal. Potatoes would have been good, but there was no time for that now. "I need to make some rice." A few flicks of his wand set the water to boiling and kept the sauce warm while he measured out the grains of right.

Once that was done, he turned and gave Dean an apologetic look. "There'll be a slight delay."

"Ah," said Dean, realising what Seamus had forgotten. He snickered when Seamus turned around. "That's okay, just set a timer for the rice and we can cuddle while we wait." He tipped his head and gestured with it towards the couch.

"C'mon," he said. "Not the worst mistake we've ever made with food." He wandered over to the couch and kicked off his boots with a quick flick of his wand to undo the laces.

Seamus was annoyed at his own absent-mindedness, especially when he was supposed to be taking care of Dean - but not annoyed enough to turn down cuddles. He set the timer and carried Dean's tea and his own bottle of cider over to the couch. His battered trainers came off without much effort - he hadn't been bothered abut doing or undoing laces for months now. Mostly just forced his feet in in the mornings until the trainers had given up all resistance.

"Knew there was a reason I kept having you around," he teased as he settled on the sofa with an arm stretched along the back of it and plenty of space for Dean beside him. "Can't be as bad as the time I tried to slow roast the lamb," he agreed - then his eyes widened briefly and he flicked his wand towards the oven, turning down the heat. "Crisis averted," he said sheepishly.

Dean took his tea, with a quick word of thanks and settled comfortably beside Seamus, not quite plastered to his side, but sitting close and resting against him. "There are many reasons you keep me around, I am an excellent person," he said teasingly. "Plus I have too much blackmail material by now," he said, waggling his eyebrows.

As Seamus made a sudden dive for his wand to turn the oven down he snorted. "And this is why I mostly cook for you. My fuck ups may be spectacular but they're rare. Weird flavour combos less so, I admit." Dean's usual method of deciding to throw extra things at his recipes sometimes worked out amazingly, sometimes was weird, occasionally plain disgusting.

"You are a terrible person." He shook his head at the thought of all the blackmail Dean likely had on him. "I don't even like to think about how you could ruin my life if you ever stopped putting up with me." For more than one reason, and potential blackmail wasn't high on the list. "I've got just as much on you, though. You're not immune from embarassing mistakes, handsome." He didn't even notice that somewhere during their two week bet he'd picked up Susan's nickname for Dean.

Seamus briefly considered compiling a list of Dean's fuck ups, but decided he couldn't be bothered. "You are a god in the kitchen and I bow down to you," he teased instead.

Dean decided to take the exceedingly mature route and responded to Seamus' teasing by sticking his tongue out. "Whatever you say, whatever you say, you love me really."

He gulped down a large amount of his cooling tea and grinned. He'd been working hard, this was exactly the sort of way he wanted to end his day. Good food, good company, and cuddles. Not that he wasn't thinking of possibly heading back to the studio, but for now this was just where he wanted to be.

Seamus placed his cider carefully on the side table while deciding how to enact his revenge for this obvious slander of his good name. Eventually he settled for poking Dean's cheek with his free hand. His fingers lingered slightly, brushing the charcoal from earlier away. When he realised what he was doing he didn't snatch his hand away, but he did let it drop relatively quickly.

The timer sounded and Seamus pushed Dean forward so he could get up and tend to the food. A few minutes later, he returned with chicken, sauce and rice for two. "No vegetables," he observed as he belatedly realised it. "Why do I always forget something?"

Dean's automatic grin and chuckle at the poke of Seamus' finger stuttered slightly as his finger brushed away something he assumed was charcoal. His tongue poked out again, but this time only to wet his lips, and then the moment was gone and Seamus' hand was falling away. Between one blink and the next everything had returned to normal.

Dean shrugged at the observation. "We could have fruit for pudding, or just conveniently forget and pretend our mothers wouldn't yell at us if they knew." He grabbed his plate and sniffed in the rich scent, shuffling slightly to give Seamus a tiny bit more room to make eating easier.

"You assume I have fruit in the flat?" Seamus asked as he snuggled back in beside Dean, balancing his plate on his lap and tucking in without hesitation.

He flicked the wireless on so they had something to listen to while they ate - even if it was just the news. After a bite of chicken and rice he gave a happy sigh. This was normal, him and Dean eating dinner and teasing one another. He could be fairly confident he wouldn't have anymore nightmares tonight.

"Well you apparently have vegetables, so I assumed there's be some fruit around as well," he said, shaking his head slightly at his apparent failure of logic. Then he scooped up some rice, poked the end of his fork into the sauce and transferred it to his mouth. Immediately he started to blink rapidly, opening his mouth and trying to cool it down by waving his hand.

"Oops," he said sheepishly after he'd managed to swallow.

Seamus snorted. "So keen to try my cooking you burned you mouth?" he teased, offering Dean the bottle of cider to cool down - one swallow wouldn't affect the potions as far as Seamus knew. "You're ridiculous."

He shrugged off Dean's comment about the fruit. "I buy fruit, and then it just goes soft and moudly because I might remember to eat one peach in a week but there's no way I'm going to remember to eat four or five. At least I can put vegetables in real food."

"'tup," Dean replied, grabbing the bottle and taking a smallish gulp of the cool liquid then sticking his tongue out to finish cooling it down. He crossed his eyes trying to see the end, then snorted at how ridiculous he must look and sucked his tongue back in. "Thanks."

"So buy bananas and when they get too black send 'em to me and I'll make cake with them. I get your point though."

Seamus sat back so he could watch Dean go cross-eyed, muffling his giggles in his fist and trying not to dislodge the plate from his lap. "How can I shut up when you go and prove my point so beautifully?" He peered at Dean's tongue before he put it away. "No damage, so far as I can tell. If you want a thorough check you'll have to ask someone else." He wriggled his eyebrow suggestively, certain in the knowledge Dean would not be taking him up on this suggestion.

"But I don't always want bananas," he pointed out as if this were a really serious conversation. "Also, I've decided I don't actually like grapes. They're really convenient and I'll eat them but they just don't taste that nice."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Dean said, brushing Seamus off with a wave of the hand still holding his fork. "I'll live, just a bit scorched. Apparently I'm hungrier than I thought." He just rolled his eyes at Seamus' suggestion. It wasn't like that was going anywhere with anyone at the moment.

Dean started to eat again, very carefully blowing on his food to make sure it was cool before it went into his mouth. "Huh, okay. No grapes for you then." Some of their conversations were incredibly random. This appeared to be just another example.

Seamus nodded seriously - he was like that with soup, never patient enough not to scorch himself. He didn't eat quite as carefully as Dean, but he did endeavour to have some rice with each mouthful of sauce which helped cool it down. He smile, satisfied with his work of feeding his hungry best mate. "This is what you have us for."

Seamus waved his bottle of cider. "Not no grapes. They're still the easiest fruit to just eat without really thinking about it, you know?" It was a thought that made perfect sense in his head. Peaches, pears, bananas, apples - you had to really commit to eating one, it could take several minutes (time Seamus often didn't have). Grapes you could just pop into your mouth until they were all gone. "I don't want to get scurvy."

"Hey, I managed to get myself out of the studio all on my own today!" Dean protested. He wasn't going to point out that he'd done it because of his alarm, or the owl. Plus sometimes he managed that, even when he was stressed.

"Okay, so some grapes then, Mr. Contrary," he said, shooting Seamus a look was meant to say 'you are being an unhelpful idiot'. "Besides, you could drink juice, it's easier." Dean was admittedly rather fond of fruit and tended to keep some at the studio. Not only was it a handy snack you could usually eat while painting it also came in handy as props or still-life material. Admittedly it did sometimes go off a bit when he forgot to eat.
