RP: We need to talk
Who: Alicia and Katie
What: They need to have a talk
Where: Alicia's house
When: Sunday afternoon
Rating: SFW, unless someone curses

Sunday afternoon. The twins were at the Fawley grandparents’ and Adrian was still cleaning out the lower floor to make room for his potions lab, and since he’d specifically asked Alicia not to worry about the moving, that left Alicia the afternoon to get caught up on some of the things that needed taken care of before the real world once again imposed on them. Two more days. She was at the same time excited and anxious, mostly excited, though she knew it was going to be hard, no matter how excited she was.

Sitting by the counter in the kitchen, she was going over the pre-emptive booklist she had been sent from the university, when Katie came in. Glancing up, Alicia smirked behind her cup as her eyes followed her friend around the room. It was small, the change, but it was there, even if she couldn’t have put a finger on what exactly it was that had change. There was just something about Katie right now that had Alicia aware that Katie and Oliver in the same city…? Yeah, they’d been more than just old friends lately.

Katie had been relaxing in her room all day, just not feeling the need to actually do anything. She took a bath and while she hadn't put on night clothes, she put on lounge pants and a t-shirt. It was then brought to her attention by the growling in her stomach that she hadn't ate anything all day. That could be problematic.

As Katie walked into the kitchen, it surprised her to see Alicia in there. She hadn't seen much of her over the last couple weeks. "Well, hey," she said with a smile. "I see you finally have a moment to sit still." Of course, Katie hadn't been looking for Ali either; that girl could read Katie like a book at times. Katie wasn't sure if she wanted to be read right now.

“Hello, there,” Alicia grinned in greeting, her cup still covering her mouth, before she took the sip she’d been meaning to take and set her cup down. “Well, need to get some last minute things sorted out before I can start buzzing around again. Nice shirt, by the way.” Her smile was playful as she nodded towards Katie’s Puddlemere shirt.

“I’ve actually been meaning to come find you,” she continued, almost nonchalantly. “We need to talk. Coffee? Tea?”

Katie stopped and looked down at her shirt and turned scarlet. How did she let herself do this? It could have been Angie's team or Pride or Falcons, but no. "Damn," she mumbled to herself.

Ali wanted to talk to her? Bloody hell, what did she do? ...what did she know? "Yeah?" She squeaked. Katie cleared her throat, "I was actually going to make a sandwich and get milk," she said, going back to what she had been doing.

Amused, Alicia quirked an eyebrow at Katie’s expletive. Oh, this was going to be so much fun!

Nursing her cup in her hands she leaned back and watched as Katie did her best to appear unaffected. How was it that she didn’t learn? Didn’t learn that unless she and Oliver started hating each other, she had no problem with the two of them being more than just friends? Couldn’t see that Alicia wanting to talk had nothing to do with them, rather it had to do with her. Then again, if Katie ever did learn, Alicia would miss out on this, and that would just be a shame, wouldn’t it? “Yeah,” she said, and once again put her cup down, leaning forward. “See, there’s going to be some changes around here, and I wanted your input on that. Like…” Drawing in a deep breath she pretended to be searching for the right words. “Do you have any plans now that you’re… here? Do you want to stay or is it just temporary?”

Katie almost let out a sigh of relief when Alicia started talking, "I love being here; please don't get me wrong, but I miss having my own home. I am very grateful that you let me stay here." She hoped she phrased that right as she turned to face Alicia, sandwich in hand. "Want half? It's peanut butter and jelly." Katie had no idea what Alicia was getting at despite her own response. She busied herself after setting down the plate by getting milk.

Alicia held up a hand to stop Katie from feeling bad about staying there. She had loved having her there, still did, and meant it when she said that her friend could stay there for as long as she liked. She didn’t get to say that, before Katie offered her half her sandwich. “Hm, sure!” she said with a smile, thanking her when she took the offered half.

“Mmm,” she hummed, “it’s been ages since I’ve had a peanut butter and jelly sammich,” she said around her bite, before she washed it down with a drink of her coffee. “No, I’m not looking for gratitude because I love having you here, the twins loving you here, annnnddd… uhm…” Okay, so this was harder than she had thought it would be. “I know you want your own place, I get the need to not have a couple of 6-year olds around, but really, you can stay here for as long as you want.” And she was getting off track. “What I’m trying to say is,” she drew in a deep breath, though her smile had only grown warmer. “The twins and I’ll be moving out sometime this month, all depending on when Adrian’s done moving his potions lab downstairs. I won’t be selling this house, so it’s still free for you and Angie to use for as long as you like… if you like.”

If Katie had been a cartoon character, her eyebrows would have flown off her head in her surprise. "Wow, I knew you and Adrian were getting close... but I hadn't realized it was getting so serious. I'm so happy for you though!" Katie said with a smile now. "I'd love to stay here, at least you'd know who was in your house; I know some people get wary of that."

"So if Angie wants to live up in this part of the house, I'd be free to use the flat below?"

Alicia could feel her cheeks heating up, and for a moment she looked down into her mug. “We’ve only been dating dating for a year or so, but really… it started at least a year and a half before that. We were just too… I don’t know, blind? Stupid? Stubborn? To see it, you know?” She shook her head; how long wasn’t really important. What was important was that Alicia felt guilty for feeling the way she did about Adrian when she was living in the house her late husband had given her when they had gotten married. That wasn’t fair to her or Daniel or Adrian.

However, Katie’s question was so nice and straightforward that it had her chuckling as she nodded. “And if she wants to stay in the flat below, you’re free to use the house, or you can split it between the two of you, I’m not going to get involved in that.”

Katie could understand Alicia's reasoning. "You're better than I am; Michael wanted to get married after two years of dating and I stopped that conversation real quick. So good for you for moving in with him." Katie said with a nod. "If Angie doesn't want this part of the house, the twins can still keep their rooms for visits."

“What?” Alicia chuckled. “How does that make me better than you? It just…” Her smile turned into a grin quickly before she took another bite of her sandwich. “I asked him to go looking at houses with me, because I… I need to get out of this house so I can move on properly, and at first he thought I was asking him to buy a house with me, which I wasn’t because I didn’t think he was ready and then he suggested that we moved into his flat with him…” her voice trailed off as she thought back to that evening and her eyes briefly dazed over with a dreamy look as her smile broadened. “And it felt right.”

She emptied her mug and filled it again as she looked at Katie. “You know, they’ll love that, though you don’t have to. Not if you have something you’d rather use those rooms for. I haven’t told them yet, so they don’t know yet.”

Katie grinned, watching her friend, and they thought she was silly over Oliver. Please. "Maybe it'll help them transition knowing they still have a place here. That is, of course, if Angie doesn't want up here."

“We’ll take that as it comes,” Alicia smiled at Katie, genuinely grateful for her offer, “but I’m sure they’ll love it, and I’ll talk to Angie later. So…” Her smile turned into a bright, teasing grin.

“How are things with Oliver?”

Katie was at a loss for words again. She shrugged, "Good, I guess. Puddlemere won last week," Katie knew what Alicia was getting at but she wasn't going to give in to her. She only hoped her face didn't betray her.

”Right, ’cause if I want to know about Puddlemere, I’ll ask you,” Alicia said deadpan, before she gave up pretending and simply chuckled with a slight shake of her head. “Just keep in mind, that the upper-floor hasn’t been sound-proofed yet.” Other than that, she didn’t have all that many concerns about them.

Katie thought momentarily, "Well... Angie sound-proofed the room last time we talked and I don't recall her removing the charm..." Katie said with a grin. "Nothing's happening; we're just friends." If only she knew what the future held for her.

“Of course,” Alicia agreed with a grin matching Katie’s, before she took another bite of her sandwich. She knew, she knew that Katie knew, and she was relatively certain that Katie knew she knew, but if Katie wanted to play it like this, far be it for her to be the one to ruin it. “Great sandwich,” she muttered around the bite. “How about you?” she asked once she’d swallowed down. “How are you doing? And getting used to England again?”

Katie grinned cheekily. "England is too bloody cold. Even in summer. This is the hArdest part." She said, and finished her sandwich. "Fine
Ali, Oliver and I are snogging. But we're just friends." Katie couldn't keep it to herself."

“It’s been a cold summer, I’ll give you that,” Alicia agreed, then twisted her lips slightly. “First summer in years we didn’t go anywhere, but then we travelled over Christmas and New Year’s.”

Almost instantly her face brightened with the verbal confirmation. “All right, all right,” Alicia held up her hands. “You’re just friends. I’m not going to warn you off him or give you any raised fingers or admonitions, just… don’t panic if it’s more than ‘just friends’. Really. That’s just a waste of time, right?” She knew that all too well.

Kate just shrugged, "I really don't know what he wants. I don't know what I want. If it's something more, fine. If it isn't, so be it. I'm just enjoying a really good snog for the time being."

Kate tried to veer the subject away, "I'm really not looking forward to Winter. Maybe I should go back to Australia at that point."

“Fair enough,” Alicia said with a nod. “Though word of warning; I’m not going to treat either of you any differently. I don’t care if it’s potential for being embarrassing or awkward, I’m used to being able to being around both of you, and that’s not going to change.” She sent Katie a smile to show that she really didn’t mind, she just didn’t want to have to make compromises when it came to two of her favourite people.

“I think we’ll go travelling again,” Alicia allowed Katie’s change of subject. “Last year we spent Christmas skiing in Wyoming and then we went down to St. Thomas to spend New Year’s with Adrian’s family. Could be we could go as a larger group this year?”

"That would be fun. Is Wyoming warmer than England?" Katie had no clue about the geography of the United States. Yes, skiing required cold weather and snow but it could be a warmer cold than in England. "How is Adrian?"

”Well, it’s not as wet as England, so it’s a drier cold?” That was really the best way she could explain it. “The snow was hip-high and the slopes were just amazing. I’m not saying that that’s where we’ll be skiing this year, but I won’t rule it out either.”

“Adrian?” Alicia eyebrows shot up in surprise at the question. Adrian was such an integral part of her life now, and yet when her friends, her Gryffindor friends inquired about him, it still surprised her… which she knew it shouldn’t. “He’s good. He’s working hard to keep up with demands while he’s cleaning out a full floor below his flat so he can move his Potions lab. I think he’s actually loving that part, even though he’s grumping about it.” Without even thinking her smile had turned dreamy again.

Katie grinned at her friend's smile, "...and you and Angie tease me about blushing. That smile says so much more." She was glad her friend had someone who made her feel that way.

"When are you going to talk to the kids about it?"
