Susan was sitting quietly in her office, half-way into a giant pile of paperwork when she felt her wards trip. A moment later, the IFF function informed her that her visitor was Dean. She pursed her lips for a moment, puzzling out why exactly it was that Dean was at her flat rather than with Seamus - engaged in their usual birthday morning display of near-pornographic domesticity. There were two distinctly probably options: firstly, that he'd had some sort of breakdown (on his birthday no less!) and had gone to her place as a safe haven; and secondly, that he simply wanted to go for a swim on his birthday. Obviously there were more options, but they got exceedingly far fetched - especially the one where it was possible that he'd been Imperiused by an irate Dutch witch bent of blackmailing Susan into allowing her to see her son in Azkaban. Susan reasoned that if Dean had had some sort of breakdown, then there was his self-care box and some spare tonic which would have sent him to sleep - no doubt under the watchful eye of Shadow - until she got home, and if he'd gone for a swim then more power to him. Her mind at ease, she returned to her paperwork, humming pleasantly to herself.
It was several hours later that she finally arrived home - admittedly far earlier than was normal. The house was strangely quiet, and Shadow's lack of immediate and boisterous greeting sent a tingle up Susan's spine. Quickly, she took out her wand and meshed her mind with the house's wards, while casting Homenum Revelio, finding there to be someone in her sitting room. With a sinking heart, she walked through the kitchen and into the room to find Dean passed out on her sofa, the ruins of his lunch on the coffee table before him, Shadow lying protectively at his feet. "Oh dear me," she sighed quietly to Shadow by way of greeting, delicately leaning forward to confirm that the glass in front of Dean had indeed contained gin.
Quietly, she kicked off her heels and sunk into the sofa on the other side to her friend. She snapped her fingers and called Shadow to her, hoping the movement would wake Dean. "Come on Handsome, time to wake up now," she said quietly.
