Viktor had decided that her birthday was a day in which he was going to pamper Melinda. There would be gifts, of course, but time was the best gift he thought he could give her. So he made her breakfast in bed, after cuddling her all night long, letting the house elf watch the children initially, and then they piled in later to wish her happy birthday as well. Well, Tsveta knew what was going on; Misha just used it as an excuse to hug and love on her.

Several owls throughout the day, and then he blew practice off early for the first time in ages (which was why he could get away with it), winking at Fin on the way out because he was in that good of a mood. (Besides, the back up Seeker should get some practice, after all.) He headed straight for the bakery just before she got off, leaning against the counter to flirt shamelessly with her, eyes glinting warmly at her. "Can I convince the prettiest lady to come avay vith me tonight?" he said after making her laugh, enjoying the sound and how beautiful she looked when she was smiling just like that.

"That I can vait for," he told her. In fact, if she wanted to pack a bag, he was good with that, but he felt like spoiling her some today, and so he hoped she'd let him buy her a few things, at least. He waited patiently, leaning back against a convenient wall with a small, content smile playing around his lips.

He held out a hand for her an dgave her a large, warm smile when she came back down. "Hi there," he replied simply, feeling his chest swell at the sight of her. Oh, he did love her, this he knew. But it still caught him by surprise sometimes, that breathless feeling he got out of seemingly nowhere.

Taking Viktor’s hand, Melinda took that last step from the stairs that landed her right in front of him. Standing there, looking up at him, she knew. She knew, and it made her smile that the first time she knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that she loved Viktor, was in the stairwell behind her shop.

“I love you,” she said, pausing for a moment when her intent of letting Viktor know that she was ready to go came out quite differently. But it was true, so she just smiled. “I do.”

Viktor tugged her closer to him, so close his large nose brushed against her much smaller one as he looked into her eyes. They weren't words he'd ever said lightly, no matter what the papers and gossips might claim. "And I love you," he said simply before sealing those simple words with a kiss. It was a wonder, a surprise, something he'd never thought he'd have again, and he loved her.
