RP: Time to catch up.
Who: Katie, Oliver, and TBD?
What: Catching up after a couple weeks
Where: Pub
When: Monday evening
Rating: SFW

Katie was elated with her job. Of course, it was only the first day and it had been very, very busy; but nonetheless, she was elated. This elatedness caused her to buzz with excitement and she couldn't sit still, so that meant a trip to the pub. Not to drink. She had settled for water and was talking with various people and having a general good time.

Earlier in the evening, Katie had changed out of her work robes and into jeans and a Falmouth shirt, which she felt so odd wearing. Growing up, she hadn't supported Falmouth and after so many years with the Thunderers, this felt like she was betraying someone.

She took a moment to sit at a table, and just finally unwind. Maybe she could stay in one spot this evening for more than just a few minutes.

With Quidditch season finally upon them Oliver found himself with more energy than he thought possible, especially considering the intense daily practices he was going to on top of team training and his own exercise routine. This also meant less time to spend with friends, which was the point of Oliver's trip to the pub on a Monday evening.

Coming through the entrance of the familiar door Oliver immediately spotted the colors of a rival team's shirt on a pretty, familiar face. With a grin he strode over to Katie, covering her eyes with his hands and adopting a horribly posh, elderly woman's voice. "Guess who."

Katie jumped nearly a mile high, "bloody hell!" She quickly turned around and saw Oliver. "Hey! You're not very funny, you git," she said with a smile nonetheless. "How was practice?"

Katie was unsure to hug him, she knew people could be finicky about it. So she opted to let him hug, if that was his thing.

His laughter was loud and warm, scooping Katie up into a quick hug before releasing her and settling down on the chair adjacent to hers. "Almost didn't recognize you in those colors," he smirked, reaching out to pluck at the hem of her sleeve.

"Puddlemere is the best shade of blue, but it doesn't suit everyone." He grinned and then shrugged his shoulders. "Getting ready for the season. I'm beyond excited even if it means my free time is about to go to nothing."

Katie nodded, "I agree. Today was intense. I loved every single minute of it and I wasn't even flying. Everyone was polite too... I hope that changes. I hate the initial formality," she rambled. She was back to getting all hyped up again, especially now that she had someone equally as excitable about Quidditch.

"Ah, you know us Brits, we're entirely too polite no matter what. Expect to be called 'Miss Bell' for quite a while." Oliver leaned forward slightly on his elbows and looked over Katie. "How about a drink?"

Katie thought about it for a minute, "One can't hurt, right? It'll be a celebratory thing. First day and all. Thank you," she said and moved in her seat to get money out of her pocket for the drink. "Wonder if I ought to stick to butterbeer," she said, with a small grin.

Shaking his head at Katie, Oliver frowned. "Absolutely not. I don't care if you're working for a rival team I want to treat my mate to a congratulatory-welcome-home beer. It's on me, so don't hold back." The smile came back to his lips once more.

Katie shrugged, "Whatever's on tap is fine. Thank you," she said with a big smile. She'd just pay him for a drink at a later date. She chose to ignore the comment about 'rival team'.

Oliver nodded and stood from the table. Monday nights at the pub were always a quiet one, but there was always a familiar face or two in the crowd wanting to excitedly say hello. Sometimes it unnerved Oliver just how fast his face became recognizable; he knew those sneaky glances and the whispering hisses when he came into a public space. Most of the time it didn't bother him, and tonight was one of those nights he paid no mind anything outside of his own personal space.

He ordered a beer (a fancy stout, he wasn't going to waste a special drink on the average-tap brew) and headed back to the table. "Here we are." He lifted his mug. "So, what shall we toast to? Your returning home? The new job?"

Katie took a drink of hers, enjoying the taste of it. "What's it like being world famous and all that?" she asked, almost shyly. She never thought of him as someone people fawned over, although she could see it. He'd always been simply Oliver. Her old Quidditch teammate and caption; friend from Hogwarts.

Oliver lowered his cup thoughtfully, pondering. "I... don't know." He admitted with a furrowed brow. "I don't feel like I have changed at all. People at Hogwarts always seemed to know me, my name, and my face so this isn't much different. I never understood why, though, without a team a singular player is useless. I'd rather see the focus on the team's collective effort rather than glamming up an individual player." Of course Oliver enjoyed the perks of fame, even if he never really understood why they were necessary.

"Honestly, I don't think you've changed either. I mean, you're older and physically a bit different, but you're still Oliver." Katie said, thinking about her question as well. She didn't know why she asked it. "I wouldn't want to be in your spot, truth be told."

"Yeah," He sighed, trailing off and staring into the dark liquid of his beer. "It's funny, Kates, remember how we used to long to be adults? How we used to idolize the celebrities because they seem to have such an easy life. We'd talk at length with what we'd do if we had their money, or their freedom." A chuckle followed that word. "The irony is, the higher my star seems to rise the more tied down I am. I have almost no free time anymore, I have to be wary of going into crowded streets if I am actually in a hurry, my private life has no privacy... it's mental. I feel like some caged bird sometimes. No idea how the likes of Viktor or Aidan do it."

"We were so young and thought we knew so much about the future too. I still like to think about what I'd do if I had money like some do," Katie said with a laugh. "I've met Aidan Lynch a couple times. He seems to be ... I don't want to say uncaring, but rather... not caring. He doesn't seem to be bothered by much. I can't say much for Viktor, he seems more like a closed book than either of you."

"Yeah, childhood innocence, right?" Oliver smiled, mentally gazing back on those days. "I think about the kind of freedom I'd have if I had never went into Quidditch. Love the salary, but the lack of privacy is a bit mental sometimes." He nodded at Katie's observation of Aidan, arguably the most famous of the currently active players in the UK. Oliver had followed his career since as long as he could remember and too was puzzled by such a neutral demeanor. "Well, I suppose we all handle the fame in different ways. Aidan has mentally checked out, Viktor is intensely private, and me..." Oliver smiled wide. "Well, I'm just myself."

Katie nodded. "I like you," she turned bright red; that hadn't come out correctly. "I'm glad you haven't changed," she said, trying to save herself. She turned to her beer, taking a drink. How was she going to remedy this?

"Aww, Kates," Oliver grinned wryly, his cheeks flushing. "I like you too." He admitted, purposely ambiguous. There had always been an attraction between the two at school, though their own obsessive, overly-focused nature and teenage misguidedness caused them to drift in and out of a relationship. Oliver moved to touch Katie's hand, instead knocking into her beer. With lightning fast reflexes he caught the mug in a solid grip... upside down.

Katie considered his words only momentarily before her shirt and pants were covered in quite cold beer. All thought left her as she jumped up; which seemed pointless as she was already covered. She hurried over to the bar for a rag, and brought it back to sop up the beer on the table, chair, and floor.

Everything covered a span of 45 seconds it seemed, but when she looked to Oliver, she couldn't help but laugh. "Well, I take this personally, Wood. This was clearly an attack by United." Katie wished she could have thought over some things more, but the distraction was very helpful. "Blimey. I'm going to need a new shirt," that was an understatement, "...and a new beer."

"Oh shite!" Oliver bemoaned, leaping up in one swift motion upon catching the mug (causing the last reminisce of her drink to dribble onto the top of her shirt). "Fucking hell, Katie, I'm sorry." He made a motion to head to the bar but stopped when Katie ran to grab a rag and came back. "Merlin, I'm sorry." Placing the mug back down he awkwardly wiped at her shirt, though stopped when she lightened the mood. "That was a foul; not an attack." He laughed awkwardly. "Erm... you want to come to my place to change?"

Katie nodded, "That might be best. As warm as it is in here, I'm freezing," she said, dropping the rag onto the table. She had never been more thankful for having her hair put up. The thought of having the smell of beer in her hair was nauseating.

"I deserve a penalty shot," Katie said, teasing her. She wasn't sure if she was embarrassed from her earlier comment or standing there covered in beer in front of Oliver, even if he did it.

After closing out their tab and apologizing profusely to the bartender the two apparated to Oliver's flat.

"Kates, I'm really sorry," Oliver said again, unlocking the door and flipping on the lights to the front room. "I have a... washing box. It washes clothes so you don't need to worry about charming them clean." He moved about, flipping on various lights and grabbing books off the couch. "And you can use my bathtub, it's quite nice."

"Accidents happen, Oliver. I'm not mad." Katie said more to reassure him than anything. That was the truth, she wasn't mad. "I do like nice bathtubs. Washing box?" Katie giggled a bit, realizing what Oliver was talking about. "What do I wear while I'm waiting for my clothes to get cleaned?" she asked him, looking around his living room.

It seemed so very Oliver that his home wasn't showy or flashy or fancy. "Very cozy."

"I know," He replied, returning from his bedroom with a large t-shirt with faded purple letters from some souvenir store in Paris. "Still, I can be quite clumsy sometimes." An apologetic smile followed, handing over the shirt. "Ah, thanks, you like?" Oliver looked around the room. "I've only moved in the past summer; I can't take much credit, mum and my sister hired a decorator since my last place was, well, I guess girl friendly? A bachelor pad, I suppose."

Katie did as she was told, setting clothes outside the door and soon enough was emerging much better smelling and cleaner, noticing that the clothes had disappeared. Katie had let her hair down, careful not to have gotten it wet during her bath and walked out to Oliver's living room, knowing he couldn't have been very far away.

"I'm human again, thank you so much," she said, not quite sure where exactly to sit.

While Katie bathed Oliver took her clothes to the washing machine, looking at the tag and hoping he'd made the right choice in choosing the wash settings (just to be on the safe side he picked a cold rinse). At this hour of the evening Oliver decided something light would be the best bet to snack on and whipped together a type of dipping sauce made of olive oil, salt, chili flakes and a touch of pesto to compliment the fresh loaf of ciabatta bread. Luckily the grocery shopping had been done earlier, else they'd have had to enjoy the dip with plain, pre-sliced white bread.

"You look human again!" Oliver smirked, tearing off the end of the loaf and offering it to Katie. "Hungry?"

Walking over to where he sat, Katie sat next to him, taking the torn off loaf of bread. "Thank you." Tearing off a small piece of the bread and dipping it into the sauce she casually remarked on Oliver's bathroom products. Oliver was in mid bite when Katie mentioned one of Oliver's secret indulgences: girly bath products. He had a serious weakness for the scented oils, those fizzy bath bombs from a muggle store called Lush, lightly perfumed candles, fuzzy bath towels, shampoos and deep conditioners, hair masks, facial treatments... the list went on. Of course when company came by he hid these things (save for Isla, whom he would delight in picking out the perfect bath accessories for) and made sure to never purchase these things in the wizarding world.

"O-oh" He choked down the bite of bread, turning a bright red and coughing. "Those are, are, those are Isla's."

Katie raised an eyebrow, "You mean to tell me that all those products are for that little baby? Oliver... I know I work for the Falcons now, but I assure you I'm not as dumb as people would believe they are." Katie watched him to make sure he was still breathing. "That's two penalty shots now."

"What can I say?" A sly grin spread onto his lips, finally clearing his throat. "I adore the twins. Ask Isla if you don't believe me." At the very least she'd be able to confirm some truth to the story. He tore off another piece of bread, chewing and breaking the silence after a few moments. "I think you're brilliant, Kates, and the Falcons are a good enough team. You're gonna do well."

"I believe you to some extent. I just don't think a 6 year old can go through all those products. Now a male in his twenties... that's a completely different story. Especially a male who has such nice looking hair..." Katie said and broke off a piece of her bread. She was ignoring all his compliments for the time being. "Aside from that being the truth that the Falcons are going to stomp you this season, flattery won't get you anywhere," she said and stuck out her tongue, followed by turning red. She meant nothing by that statement.

"Oh, Merlin, you haven't been around her, then!" Oliver sighed dramatically, dipping more bread into the oil. "She wants a bath, so it's all 'go on then, Ollie, I want the purple sparkly bath!'" He mimicked Isla's high, girlish voice. "Then before you know it she wants 'the pretty blue one', then 'the bright pink' and I have to add more water to get it to swirl properly. Then she wants a bath melt to make the water 'slippery'. She's going to grow up to be a diva." He nodded sagely, biting down onto the bread, ignoring the rest of her comments though subtly blushing at the mention of his hair.

"The Falcons have nothing on us this year," Oliver smirked, stepping forward to flick the end of her tongue.

"She'll be a diva just like her Uncle Ollie," Katie said nodding. "Falcons are going to be unstoppable," she said and scrunched up her nose at the flicking. Katie didn't deny that Isla was exactly as Oliver said. She was her mother's child, for sure. "I think we play each other in November. We're going to win. Remember that."

Oliver flipped his hair dramatically and sighed deeply with a fluttering of his lashes. "I know, right?" He replied dreamily, leaning in and nudging Katie with the crook of his elbow. The smile lingered on his lips while raising his eyebrows in a pleasantly surprised sort of way. "Oh, is that right? What happens when you lose...since you know, you will." Katie couldn't help but notice how good Oliver smelled. She couldn't place the scents, since they all melded, but they were familiar enough. She got a mischievous grin when he mentioned losing. Katie discovered (rediscovered?) another secret guilty pleasure of Oliver's: having his hair touched. The sensation of her hands moving through the incredibly soft blond locks made him shiver. "Alright," Oliver agreed, barely above a whisper while leaning closer. "But you're going to lose." They were a mere breath's distance apart, Oliver eying Katie's lips when a loud, sharp beep broke the silence in the flat and caused Oliver to jump backward with a start.

When Oliver left, Katie audibly sighed. What in the world was she thinking, nearly snogging Oliver like that? Sure, it'd be fun and all but where would it leave them? Who was she kidding, it'd be wonderful if she remembered their Hogwarts days correctly. Of course, both were young and had no idea what they were doing for the most part.

Oliver paused while pulling out Katie's clothes from the wash. Bleeding hell you can snog some floozy without worry. You were brazen as all hell with Mel but you can't snog Katie? his mind mentally chided. What happened to ridiculously smooth Oliver? You can seal the deal like a goblin counts coins. He grumbled lowly, shaking his head. Katie isn't some... one. She's one of my best mates for fuck sake." He closed the door to the dryer, placing it on the lowest setting. So I should be able to do this. We've kissed before. I can do this! It'll be like old times. Yeah! "Yeah!" Oliver agreed with himself and turning on the dryer. Without a second though he strode back into the kitchen, walking with that sense of purpose. He couldn't give himself time to think; this was nothing more than taking a risk during a game. Thinking meant panicking.

Oliver walked over to Katie without a word, resting both hands on her waist to pull her in for a kiss.
