RP: Post-Funeral Blues
Who: Susan and OPEN, literally anyone

What: Drinking

Where: Finnigan's

When: Tuesday September 9, early evening

Rating: SFW I think?

Susan was, to borrow a rather wonderful phrase from her brother, completely and totally off her face. She'd arrived at the bar straight after the funeral, and begun drinking with the sort of grim intensity and dogged determination of someone who was absolutely committed to getting drunk as fast as humanly possible.

By the time she was properly drunk, it was early evening and most of the pain from watching her colleagues family cling to one another and sob as their only daughter placed in the ground had dulled to something more acceptable. Thinking that perhaps she should interact with the people around her, she looked around the pub.

Today, Lavender had conducted duelling club in towering heels and bright red lippy. It was a little extra armour against the world today after work had had kept her out all night and well into the early hours. She would be glad if she never saw another crup-fighting ring again, but there was no way the one in Belfast had been the only one in Britain or Ireland. Worse, some of the bastards had managed to make their escape.

After throwing herself thoroughly into the parts of today that she had been awake for, Lavender was now very ready to throw herself into a very large glass of wine or two. She spotted Susan, giving her a tired smile as she went over. Lavender kissed her cheek, knowing this particular lipstick wouldn't smudge. "I'm going to order a drink. Can I get you one?"

Harry arrived at Finnigan's shortly after Susan. He'd needed to go home, take a few minutes to process what had happened and try to erase the family's face from his mind. It hadn't been easy, and he was still haunted by Chernoknizhnik’s mother's face as he slid onto a stool on the other side of Susan.

"Hey." It came out tired and sad, and he couldn't even summon a smile for Lavender. "I don't think one is going to cut it tonight, Lav. Straight up vodka for me." He didn't do shots regularly, but if there was ever a day that called for shots, it was this one. "And next round's on me."

Susan managed an approximation of a smile at Lavender as she walked over. "Hey lovie," she replied in a quiet voice as Harry slid in next to her. "Haz is right I think, one drink won't be enough. Whiskey for me, and I'll do the third round."

She watched Lavender totter over to the bar and placed her head tiredly on Harry's, not speaking until Lavender returned.

Lavender looked at the two of them for a long moment. If she'd been left feeling disturbed and out of sorts after seeing the horrible cruelty of crup fighting last night, whatever the two Aurors had been through required the hard stuff tonight. Wine could wait. "Doubles," she decided with a curt nod.

She ordered a double measure for Susan and four shots of vodka, nudging two of them down the bar to Harry. Lavender picked up one for herself, biting the inside of her lip for a second before she said, "I always say this place counts as an Irish pub, so... sláinte."

"Sláinte," Harry agreed, then tossed back one of the shots. It burned more than he liked going down, but the second one burned less. When he could breath again, and his eyes had stopped watering, he gave Lavender a little smile. "Thanks. Needed that."

Resisting the urge to rest his head on the table, he signaled the bartender for another round, though he wasn't quite ready for another shot. He wasn't exactly a light weight, but it was a well known fact in the department that Harry Potter couldn't hold his alcohol. It was a talent that had seemed to escape him.

"How was dueling club tonight? I'm sorry I missed it again, but it couldn't be helped." He leaned his head on Susan's shoulder briefly, needing the contact.

Lavender paused between shots, trying to suppress a laugh at the look on Harry's face after his first drink. She downed the second one and sighed lightly, stacking her empty shot glasses.

Reaching around Harry, she gave his shoulder a brief, reassuring rub. "It's okay. I get it." She pulled her arm back and wriggled a little to get a better position on her stool. "It was fine. I mostly let everyone do their own thing this week. I had a bit of a late one last night."

"Sláinte," Susan echoed, drowning a not insignificant amount of her whiskey. She nearly laughed as Harry's shot went down like a charmed quaffle, he was well known among the Aurors for his complete inability to handle his alcohol.

She looked Lavender as she gestured for a fresh round for them all. "Did you give Mac conniptions in that getup then?"

Lavender schooled her features into her best innocent expression. "I have no idea what you could possibly be talking about."

But the two shots of vodka had loosened her a little and she quickly smirked, shrugging. "And even if I did, this is all for me, anyway. Makes me feel good. Then again, vodka is starting to do a good job of that too."

Susan snorted and shook her head. "Lav, I duel with you all the time. That man misses more points trying to look down your top than anyone else."

"I am liking the whiskey. The whiskey is doing a good job of reminding me that Sofiya would be really mad at me if I just sat here and moped all the time."

"Which just goes to show that he needs to practice. I can ogle and hex at the same time perfectly well!"

Reaching out, Lavender put her arm around Susan for a brief, gentle squeeze. She might not have known the whys and hows of the matter, but a death in the department didn't go unnoticed. "Yeah," she agreed quietly.

"Poor Cormac. He's not even here to defend himself," Harry teased, the two shots doing a good job of helping him relax. "But you're right Lav. Ogling and hexing can be concurrent activities with enough practice."

He lifted his head from Susan's shoulder and signaled for another round. She was right; Sofiya wouldn't want them mope. She'd want them to celebrate. "To Sofiya, and good friends," he said, holding up his shot glass.

"Pfft," Susan said, smiling properly for the first time all evening. "It's not like the man doesn't have plenty of experience with gorgeous people like you Lav. I listened to him getting fucked against a wall by Davies in a club once. He definitely isn't shy."

"To friends, family, and comrades-in-arms, both alive and dead," Susan added as she took a drink.

Lavender gave a scoff of her own. "Mac's ego can stand a bit of teasing. And if it can't," she added, raising her eyebrows, "I think I know a few ways to soothe it."

She picked up another shot, holding it out and echoing their toast. "To friends."

Harry, feeling loose from the alcohol, laughed. "I'm sure you do, Lav, and I'm sure he's a lucky man for it."

He tossed back yet another shot, beyond thinking about the consequences for tomorrow. Right now, he wanted to enjoy his friends, and celebrate the life of a lost colleague.

Susan chuckled into her drink. "I'm sure you do dear, do you do that thing," she made a horrifically graphic gesture, "And then you know," another, filthier one followed, "And then with your tongue?"

She slapped Harry on the back as he took another shot. "That's the spirit Haz. We're both going to pay for this tomorrow, but it'll be worth it." She looked over at Lavender. "How are you going to deal with this tomorrow Lav?"

Lavender could barely finish swallowing her shot before she started laughing. She delicately wiped the corner of her mouth, still giggling. "Um. Sometimes I start with the tongue before the..." She tried to copy Susan's second gesture, but wasn't quite as proficient at it, which made her giggle again.

"Hmm. A fry up, extra concealer and probably a healthy dose of complaining into my pillow."

Under normal circumstances, Harry would be Weasley red in the face with conversations like this. Sometimes he thought he was the only one in his circle of friends who was inexperienced enough with sex that everything about it made him blush, despite the desire to become less inexperienced in certain areas. But tonight, with the amount of alcohol consumed in a short amount of time it only made him laugh. "Good for you, Lav. And better for Mac, I think."

Since he didn't want to think about tomorrow, and how it would be at the office, he just shrugged and ordered another round. He'd lost track of what number this was, but that only made it better.

Susan grinned at Harry and then over at Lavender. "One of these days we need to find a willing man and show young Harold here the tricks," she said, before breaking down into fits of glee.

"A fry up will be essential. So will concealer. Harry if you come over I'll put some concealer on you."

As Susan broke down, Lavender was slightly more composed, smiling at Harry. In all honesty, it had been a long time between the last time she had taken someone to bed and this whatever-this-was with Mac that it was a wonder she even remembered how to do anything. Susan, she was sure, had a better balance in that part of her life.

She took another shot, reminding herself to get the next round. "He can probably get away with dark circles better than us. Lucky bastard."

Harry was starting to lose the initial buzz, and with it could feel the exhaustion come over him. He wanted to go home, crawl into bed, and sleep into forever. Instead, he ordered another round--who knew what number this was--and chased the gleeful feeling he'd had just a minute ago.

"If I had any idea how to work concealer, I would. Dark circles are not a good look for anyone," Harry said, dropping his head down on the bar. The last shot had worked quickly, and instead of glee he was mostly just sleepy. "Should get home. Going to be hell tomorrow."

Susan nodded at Lavender in glum agreement. "It's never fair, men can walk around with puffy eyes and it's all 'Oh yes well done you obviously got lots of ladies into bed' but the moment a girl has sleepy eyes she gets snide comments. Double standards I tell you, it's just not Quidditch."

She sighed and looked at her watch. "I suppose I should go home too? Lavender do you need to drunk girl stagger with someone? Or should we call Cormac?"

Lavender wrinkled her nose, uncertain at the mention of Cormac. "We're not dating. I don't even know what we are. He's just... Well, he's just Cormac, you know?" She decided she was too tipsy to dwell on that or she might starting thinking that it would be a really good idea to get some of those really great kisses now.

She also decided not to count how many shots she'd had. Best to let that remain one of the mysteries of the universe.

"Mm. I'll be fine." A little wobbly, but fine. She peered around Susan at Harry. "Though I think someone else might be stumbling home," she said pointedly.

Harry snickered. "Bet he's good in bed. He looks like he'd be good in bed. Nice arms." Harry knew he was going to regret this in the morning, but right at this moment he found it hard to care. "You're lucky, Lav."

He waved away Lavender's concerns. "M'ok. I'll get home fine, I've Apparated in worse conditions than this." At least, he hoped he wouldn't Splinch himself. That'd be embarrassing.
