Not that he didn't know it happened, but from how he'd been raised, it simply wasn't done - though neither was being a single parent (except in the case of death, of course). "What kind of father isn't in the picture? It sounds like you've had some bad taste in men, as someone like that doesn't sound like they deserve to be a husband or father."
