RP: Alicia and Adrian
Who: Alicia and Adrian
What: A walk and talk in the park
Where: Claverton, Bath
When: Sunday, August 2, afternoon
Rating: SFW

There was something about spending your Sunday in your childhood home. It felt even more special to have Adrian there. Not that it was the first time he was there, but him being there, not as a guest, but as Adrian, where she had grown up and spent her summers when she had been home from Hogwarts. That was probably also how she had ended up Apparating the two of them to the Dundas Aqueduct so they could take a walk by the coal canal.

Tucked under Adrian’s arm, her hand resting on his hip as they walked, Alicia smiled up at him and gave his hand a gentle squeeze before she stopped them by the little bridge. Looking up at the yellow villa on the hillside on the other side of the canal she felt every bit in awe as she had been whenever she had seen it as a little girl. “I used to dream about living in that house when I was little,” she smirked, her cheeks heating up a little at her childhood dreams.

Adrian had felt himself relax for the day in the first time for weeks. He'd put his potions work on hold since the bombing, helping to collect sponsorships for Cho's charity event and spending every waking moment with Alicia and the twins. It was the first time in his life he hadn't retreated into potions or run for safety. The first time in his life he'd felt protective.

It had been almost a month, and he'd noticed Alicia had been... well, Alicia since then. All of his fussing over her hadn't helped, she'd been seeming so... well, to him, scared seemed the only way to explain it, but he knew better when it came to her. She had been working harder than he'd known her to since they had first become friends, and she'd always worked too much anyway. But he had given her time and hoped she'd come to a point where she wanted to slow down again - he only hoped it would be before her schooling began and before she burnt herself out.

He looked up at the house she indicated - it was beautiful, and Adrian had always loved architecture. "Yeah? Tell me about it." He prompted.

Alicia’s smile broadened as she chuckled and slipped out from under Adrian’s arm to instead lean back against his chest as they looked up at the house. This. This felt safe. This felt comfortable. This break felt allowed, as opposed to back home in London, with the twins, and the Foundation, and the upcoming school start, and Genie, and Gwenog, and Oliver, and all the people who needed help, all the messes that needed cleaning up, all the Healing she couldn’t not do…

“It was a palace,” she remembered fondly. “When I grew up I was going to be a princess and a lorry driver and make hard candy. I’d marry a prince, and play Quidditch and have 5 children and 3 brooms and a goat.” It wasn’t just that she remembered her old dreams, her mum had recorded and re-played an old cassette tape with her listing all the things she was going to do and be and have when she grew up. “Mum did piano lessons for the children in there when I was five or six, but I’ve only ever been in the garden. I’m sure it’s not so, but mum never did or said anything to make me think that it didn’t look like a real princess house in there.”

Adrian laughed softly, sure she could feel the vibrations against her back, as he held her close and she listed. When she'd finished he said, "I'm sure it's exactly that inside, just like outside, but I do have to ask..." He peaked around to the side to give her a cockeyed eyebrow, "A goat?"

"Is the goat a dealbreaker?" He asked with a faux nervous look.

“A goat!” Alicia laughed and turned around in his arms. She hadn’t a clue why she had wanted a goat so badly back then, but she remembered that intense hope that one day she would have a goat and it would be all hers. At first she just shook her head, still smiling because the thought that something as small as a goat would be a dealbreaker when it came to Adrian was just silly to her. Then as her eyes settled on his and she allowed herself the time she had refused herself the past month to just look at him her smile softened. “With you…” she started, and along with the love she felt for him came the worry and the fear and the stress she had felt for the past month. “With you it would have to be huge for it to be a dealbreaker by now,” she whispered, and swallowed down.

He could see and feel the moment her mood shifted and his chest ached with the thought of her feeling sad, especially on such a beautiful day when they'd nothing to worry about in the world (for once). "Hey," he said, whispering as well and leaning so that his forehead touched hers. He looked her right in the eye and said softly, "I'm pretty sure there's not a thing in the world that could break this deal about now," and he meant it.

He smiled just a little bit, "A goat might be a stretch though," he kept his voice low, though, trying to get her to smile again. Adrian knew, without a doubt, that he would do anything to make her smile.

Raising her eyes, Alicia’s met Adrian’s. They really had been through what most people would consider huge dealbreakers, from dead husbands, over children and too busy work-lives, to ties to the Death Eaters. Adrian didn’t tell her he loved her very often, but it didn’t matter. He didn’t have to say it directly, he showed it and, well, he said in other words. Like now.

Raising her eyes a little more, she chuckled softly at his joke. “I think getting a goat might actually be a dealbreaker now,” she said quietly and leaned in to rest her head against his chest. “I’m sorry about how things have been lately.”

Adrian shook his head, "No, you have nothing to be sorry for. We're all...," he sighed, "this is new for all of us. It might seem like the same thing, but we've not dealt with this before, not so directly, not since..." Adrian didn't like to talk about the war, his guilt over his family and his fleeing often tore him open, silently of course.

"I'm sorry I've been so all over you," he smiled, "well, I'm never sorry for being all over you, but, you know what I mean," he reached up and gently lifted her face from where she'd leaned against him, looking into her eyes once more. "What can I do?" The entire conversation seemed soft and quiet, now, and just for them.

Even as he asked the question, he knew one thing he was going to do. Alicia wanted to be a princess in this very castle? That was one dream he could make come true, with the time to do it, and as far as he and Alicia were concerned, he felt they had all the time in the world.

Even as he asked the question, he knew one thing he was going to do. Alicia wanted to be a princess in this very castle? That was one dream he could make come true, with the time to do it, and as far as he and Alicia were concerned, he felt they had all the time in the world.

Adrian’s fingers, so used to handling all sorts of ingredients, from the nearly unbreakable to the almost impossibly volatile compositions, were so gentle. Looking at him, his question kept ringing through her head; what can I do for you? What could he do for her? He loved her, he loved her children, he got along with her family, he even got along with Daniel’s family. He didn’t ask her to change, he didn’t expect her to change, he supported her decisions. The past month he had been there, he’d stayed close, he’d been ‘all over her’ as he called her, and she had… she’d found comfort in it. A rare comfort that she hadn’t realized she had needed until it had been there.

“You’re doing it,” she told him, the soft smile returning to her lips as she looked at him. “You being… all over me…” had been just what the Healer ordered, and he’d just done it. His reaction to the bombings had kept her from falling apart completely in her reaction to the bombings. “You’re doing it.”

Pausing for a moment, she frowned slightly. “There is one thing… Uhm… Do you make Wolfsbane Potion?”
