RP: Alicia and Oliver
Who: Alicia and Oliver
What: Dinner, it’s just been too long
Where: Finnigan’s
When: 8. September - Evening
Rating: SFW

It had been a frustratingly long week. Not because she hadn’t had anything to do – she had – or because she had been extremely busy – she hadn’t – but just because. Because Monday evening had been all kinds of wonderful and eye-opening and she had found her mind wandering back to it, all too conveniently leaving out what didn’t happen. And that was where the frustrating part of her week came in. Alicia had lost count of how many times she had pulled out her journal to send a message to Adrian or had been about to head up to his flat, only to change her mind because if she hadn’t scared him off that evening, surely he would have reached out, too.

There had been good things too, though. Granted, those good things were Oliver’s and Roger’s injuries aside, but there were plenty of things that had kept her smiling, kept her from wallowing – too much. Like Isla and Liam talking about school, Liam’s excitement about the concert Sam had promised to take them too while Isla… well, Isla had been heartbroken to hear that Oliver had been injured, but the look on her face when Alicia had told her that he was back on the broom and ready for next Friday could have melted even the coldest of hearts. Oliver himself, though initially a cause for worry, had been another reason for her smiles. The joy that had beamed through the pages when he had told her about Melinda had kept her smiling for hours. And the fact that she was seeing him tonight had her both feel at ease and impatient. Because Oliver possessed the two things Alicia could really use right now: an unassuming friendship without messy emotional entanglements and ability to bear-hug you until everything felt right with the world again.

Alicia had been early, very early, getting to the pub. But it had just fit with the time, so she had found a table in The Corner, where she could keep an eye out for Oliver and get read up on the latest happening on the journal system. She looked at the blank page before her, and before she knew it, she had scribbled an all too familiar message, warded and charmed for one set of eyes only.

She wasn’t looking when the door opened, but something had her look up the moment Oliver stepped inside the pub. With a bright smile of welcome, she got up and once he was close enough moved in for a hug. “I hope you brought a hug.”

Oliver was on cloud 9. He could hardly even remember practice, other than the Healers gave him full leave to play this week which made him excited, only not as excited as he had been at Melinda agreeing to date him properly. A proper girlfriend. He could hardly believe it himself. But he couldn't get lost in his glee, particularly because he absolutely couldn't ignore his good friends while this all went on. So when Alicia invited him to eat at the pub, he wasn't about to say no.

Arriving only a couple minutes late, Oliver spotted Alicia only moments after he stepped inside and took off his sunglasses. "I brought them all!" he cried, gathering her up in his big, keeper's arms and squeezing her tight. He released her and sat down with her, smiling widely. "Hallo, Als my love! I hope you're well. Come now, tell me all, I feel I've hardly seen you in weeks."

With a soft laughter of happy recognition and relief Alicia disappeared into Oliver’s hug, her laughter cut off by the small grunt when he squeezed her just a little too tight. It didn’t matter, though, because for that one too tight moment, she wasn’t the mother, the protector, the caregiver, the organiser, the Healer or any of the other labels that could be attached to her, she was just Alicia being embraced and for that moment someone else was in control and taking care of her. “You’re a lifesaver,” she murmured into his shirt before they let go and sat down.

“Ollie-bear,” she smiled back to him, his joy and beaming smile already affecting her mood positively and making the world just that much easier to deal with. “It feels like it’s been weeks, because the only times I’ve seen you the past month was while you were busy grinding against Susan Bones with Harry and then briefly again at King’s Cross,” she laughed then drew in a deep breath and ran her fingers through her hair. “Tell all, you say, but how much?” She shrugged. “Isla and Liam started year 1 at Fox Primary, Isla flat out refused to go to the match on Saturday because you were benched, how is your head by the way? Other than that, it’s been work, work, and Foundation work while spending too much time being ‘just friends’ with Adrian.” And she had not meant to say that, so she quickly moved. “But you? You’re looking great! This…” she gestured to the smile on his face, “whole girlfriend things is really suiting you.”

"Of course I am," Oliver said, not at all humble. Cor, he knew he was a great friend, despite the fact that he'd been momentarily caught up in feelings for a girl, he definitely wouldn't let that get in the way of his friends. He bopped her on the nose before sitting down, settling in for a chat with one of his girls.

"It has been weeks, even if it hasn't. It's always been weeks. How's my kiddos? Did Isla like her new quidditch robes? I need to see her wear them for the full effect. And oi, that was one time, how did you heard about that anyway? Ages ago. Was still sussing out how I felt about Mel and we all know how that turned out. Bloody brilliant, that. Glad to hear that everything is working out well." He caught the bit about Adrian and quirked a brow.

"Hang on a tick. Go back to that Adrian bit, and explain. If you leave anything out I'll dump my drink right on your head, I sear to Godric."

Alicia’s eyes widened slightly as she laughed at the sudden stream of words from Oliver. “They’re great,” she grinned. “Isla loves the uniform, I have to sneak it out of her room when she’s in school to wash it and I swear she wore the t-shirt under her school uniform on her first day.” While both of her kids adored and admired Oliver she knew that there was a kind of bond between him and Isla, which most likely had to do with their shared obsession for all things flying and Quidditch. “Liam’s going through an 80s music period right now. Sam’s started teaching him how to play the guitar and he’s making progress with the broom. He’s not completely sure, but at least he’s not panicking any longer when we take off.”

She took a sip of her red wine and shook her head with a chuckle. “I didn’t hear about that, Oliver,” she smirked. “I saw it, with my own two eyes while I was having drinks and talking playdates with Dominic. Besides, I wasn’t judging, just amused, and when did that thing with Melinda start?” As much as she was thrilled on Oliver’s behalf it did kind of muddle together in that one day she was screaming through the Floo to chase away some un-named one-nighter and the next Oliver’s mentioning this witch who’s making him smile and who just recently turned out to be the maker of Alicia’s favourite cakes.

Clearing her throat Alicia shrugged and swallowed down a bit of a sigh. “Been spending too much time being ‘just friends’ with Adrian?” she asked, knowing full well that that was what he was referring to; she just needed a little time. “If I have to tell you everything, we’ll be here all night, because I’ve spend a lot of time with him lately, so broad strokes, alright?” Again she drank from her wine and ran fingers through her hair. “So, basically, after all the lunches and dinners and late nights and trips with the kids we went out to dinner last week to… well, to celebrate the kids being back in school and the Foundation kids being sent off properly, and it was a good evening with too much wine and both of us dressed up and it’s the closest thing I’ve had to a date since Daniel which had me freaking out just the week before while I was talking to Susan, but it was Adrian. Adrian who doesn’t date, so even though I know I probably shouldn’t, it still felt so good to hold his hand when he walked us to the table and even a little at the table. But it was all me. Yes, he was sweet and charming and flirting, I think, because really, I’m not sure I even remember how any of that goes anymore, but that’s all that happened. Just friends.” Which she could live with, especially if it meant keeping her friendship with him.
