Who: Greg and open
What: Greg is thinking...
Where: Honeydukes, Hogsmeade
When: Friday 24th July, slightly before lunch
Rating: SFW for now

Greg had only recently come to understand that - as long as he didn't take too many - he actually got paid for his days off. It seemed crazy to him, that George Weasley should have to pay him for not working. For the first several months, he'd assumed that if he took a day off, he would lose that day's pay. It had only been when this assumption came up in conversation with his mother that she'd corrected him. So, with no small amount of glee, he'd booked today off and was privately thrilled that George would probably have to work the shop floor rather than continuing to develop new products.

Of course, Greg's planning hadn't stretched so far as to have any idea what he was going to do with his day off. He could probably have gone to see Draco, or Marcus, or Theo - but then he'd have to talk about the job Romilda had offered him. He'd promised her he'd get back to her as soon as he had talked to someone whose judgement he trusted - but he was putting it off. He didn't know how any of his friends would react, and that made him uncomfortable. He didn't like not knowing what to expect, especially with his friends.

Instead, he apparated to Hogsmeade and walked under a grey sky towards Honeydukes. He'd never liked Hogwarts much, nor Scotland in general, but Honeydukes was frankly superior to any other sweet shop and Greg fancied some dark, sticky toffees to chew. He was nearly at the door when he noticed that his shoe was untied and crouched down to fix it, the movement making him an obstacle that the person walking behind him would have to step around.

Merwyn had woken up yesterday afternoon and hadn't slept yet; the world felt strangely askew to him, surreal and as though he was living a different timeline to the rest of the world. Or maybe he should just stop taking so many illicit substances at 3am.

Whatever it was, sleep deprivation or the waning high, Merwyn found himself bereft of the company that had been swearing alleigance to him last night and aching slightly, cold to his core like only a sleepless night could do. The only cure he could think of for a problem like that was something sweet, chocolate, hot chocolate like a great big hug in a mug that he could take with him and keep for as long as he wanted it. For a change.

The only place to go to get proper chocolate and sweets was Honeydukes. He moved into the shop dressed in jeans from last night, a tshirt three sizes too big for him and someone else's hooded sweatshirt, soft and warm in a way that didn't overheat him. He had round framed shades on like some kind of hippy grunge hipster and his hair, Merlin, it was a good thing he hadn't passed a mirror - he looked like he'd slept the night in a park, which was true apart from the sleeping part. The light of day wasn't hurting his eyes with those shades on, but he couldn't see very well either as he moved from exterior to interior, and besides that, he certainly wasn't watching the floor in case large men were crouched down on it.

He didn't so much trip over Greg as fall completely on top of him, his skinny body flopping across that broad back like someone's rag doll before he fell to the side and ended up in a sprawled puddle next to the shoe-tier. "Crap, sorry!" he exclaimed, trying to get himself together to get himself up. "I didn't see you mate, I'm really sorry!" he apologised, hands up in supplication. "You okay?"

Greg's immediate response to someone falling on top of him was to go for his wand, shifting into a more offensive position in case he needed to hex someone. He glanced around, taking in the sprawled figure but disregarding it as unthreatening until after he'd checked the rest of his surroundings. A few people had paused, obviously noticing the accident, but Greg's glare encouraged them to put their wands away and hurry on. Satisfied that no one was pointing a wand in his direction, or likely to shove anything further at him, he lowered his knees to the ground and turned to the body beside him.

"I'm fine," he muttered. It would take more than this to actually hurt him, though he could feel a slight ache in his side where one of Merwyn's shoes must have caught him just under the ribs as he went over. "You?" He didn't get up immediately - wanting to make sure the stranger wasn't badly injured. He spotted the sunglasses a little way away and reached for them before anyone could step on them. "Need these?"

Merwyn didn't care about the gawkers around them, more worried about the guy he'd tripped over; first in case he'd injured him and second in case he was going to injure Merwyn. He was a little relieved when the guy moved, even if it was just to his knees, studying the other guy anxiously. "I'm so, so sorry!" he said again, even though no damage had been done.

"I'm seriously fine, I'm okay, I'm sorry I fell over you, I totally wasn't looking where I was going, I'm so sorry!" he couldn't stop apologising - when was enough after you had physically stepped on someone? He gave Greg a smile as he passed the sunglasses back and he took them but hooked them on the collar of his tshirt. "Thanks for saving them for me." he clambered up and then held a hand out to Greg which was comical in it's own way. "Want a hand up? I'm really sorry. What were you going to get, I can get it for you." he offered, money always a way for him to make up his shortcomings.

Once he saw Merwyn was able to stand, Greg heaved himself to his feet without needing to use the offered hand. It didn't occur to him that it might seem rude to refuse - he just didn't need the help. "It's okay," he emphasised when he could get a word in. "You didn't mean to." For all that, he wasn't going to refuse an offer of sweets. Greg's loyalty couldn't be bought, exactly, but if there were no existing conflicts it could certainly help.

"Some toffees," he said honestly and then, belatedly, "thanks."

Merwyn put his hand in his jeans pockets, a little deflated mostly because he was used to being shunned by people who recognised him as that useless Quidditch player who lost them money. It didn't look like that this time though and Merwyn relaxed again at the reassurance, pleased as well that he was forgiven for tripping bodily over the poor guy.

He beamed when Greg took him up on his offer though, this trade of goods and money for affection pretty much all he knew at this stage. "Sure thing, no problem!" he assured, lively for someone who was hanging with an insomniac hangover. "Just toffees, are you sure? Want anything else?" he asked, ready to spend until it hurt for just a few more moments of fake comraderie.

"Well..." Toffees had been all Greg had been intending to buy, when he was spending his own money, but if he was being offered things for free, that became a different matter entirely. "Some chocolate cauldrons, maybe." He looked around the shop, eying up the merchandise new and old. "What were you going to get?" Greg missed the days of sitting in the Slytherin common room sharing sweets with Vince - now he was an adult, he had to buy his own sweets and he didn't really have anyone to share them with.

"Who are you, anyway?" Greg added, belatedly. Manners had never exactly been his strong point - but he did like to know who he was talking to, even if he'd forget again by the next day. "I'm Greg."

"Sure!" Merwyn reached for the confectionary, collecting it all up like he could buy the whole shop. He blinked at the question, having to take a moment to try and remember why he had come in here in the first place. "Oh... hot chocolate! I was after hot chocolate." he said, searching for the one he wanted, the unadulterated sweetness of good quality drinking chocolate. He had his arms full already and was still waiting for Greg to ask for more when he was asked his name.

"Oh, I'm Merwyn. It's nice to meet you Greg, even though I tripped over you. Sorry again." he added, all a rush as though he hoped that Greg would skip over his name and not connect him with the once famous now infamous Quidditch player.

Greg watched as Merwyn loaded himself down with various packages. "You need some help," he announced. It really wasn't a question, and he didn't wait for permission before taking the awkwardly-balanced hot chocolate and the chocolate cauldrons from the top of the pile. He'd always been taught it was rude to use magic on goods that weren't yet paid for, even if it would have been easier.

"Merwyn," he repeated. It was no more unusual a name than Draco or Blaise to him and he nodded. "The toffees make up for it," he said. "Just hot chocolate?" Greg liked hot chocolate - it was by far his hot drink of choice, since he didn't much like tea or coffee - but it still wasn't categorised as a sweet in his mind.

Merwyn gave Greg a slightly bemused look, used to hearing that from Healers but not sure what Greg meant in this context until the bigger lad reached out and took some of his mound of purchases. "Oh, thanks!" he chirped, pleased and grateful.

He waited with a bit of a cringe for the realisation to come, but it never did and he relaxed when Greg just nodded. "If you're sure, I could get more." he offered. "Yeah, I just, I'm not in the mood for anything else." he said with a shrug. "Did you want some?" he asked, ready to get more if Greg said yes, or even ask Greg home for some. He couldn't deny that Greg wasn't attractive with his big build and handsome features and forgiving nature and he might have asked him home anyway.

"You're welcome," Greg answered, his arms now full of goods. It was a good, familiar feeling, carrying more sweets out of Honeydukes than even he and Vince together could expect to devour in a single sitting. At Merwyn's offer, Greg eyed the toffees and then shook his head. "That's enough," he decided. It was already a generous amount and though he had no scruples about accepting generosity whenever and whyever it was offered, he knew that the minor inconvenience didn't really deserve more than that.

"Some hot chocolate?" Greg asked, to clarify, already nodding. "Sure. Thanks." Hot chocolate would give him something to enjoy now, which would mean he could save the toffees for later. Perhaps during work, though George had told him off for that before.
