Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: adrian pucey, character: blaise zabini, status: complete

RP: Sometimes you need a strong drink & sympathetic ear
Who: Adrian & Blaise
What: Adrian needs to brood, he's invited Blaise to join him.
Where: Finnigan's Common Room (bar)
When: Half six; Tuesday
Rating: I would assume... NSFW - Language

Adrian sat at the bar after a day of potions prep - going over all his cauldrons and such to be sure they were ready for his next batch. Waiting for Blaise, he ordered a firewhiskey (a double, of course) and scanned the crowd. He wasn't sure why he felt the need to see his old friend and to hopefully meet someone gorgeous and single, but he was in a mood for it and so here it was.

He'd even cleaned up a bit in a white button up and dark jeans, his hair in place for once.

Blaise was fairly certain there was a story to be had as he made his way to the pub. Not that it was really any of his business if there was. Still, when he came in and noticed that Adrian was a bit more cleaned up than usual he couldn't pass up the chance to joke a bit.

"You've cleaned up mighty nicely," he said upon his approach, a drink already in his hand. "So, is this your final bachelor drink before running off to a late night dinner to meet your order by owl Russian bride your parents just sprung on you?"

Adrian gave a weary shake of his head with a smile, "Good to see you, too, Zabini," and put out his hand in greeting. Nodding to the stool next to him, he actually sighed.

Once Blaise was seated, he started with, "Honestly, I think I might prefer Mother & Father getting it over with." He looked pointed to his younger housemate and enunciated his words with clear frustration. He didn't even know what was bothering him, but he knew there was something.

Blaise gripped Pucey's hand and gave it a firm shake before taking a step over to the stool. "Ask and you shall receive," he joked as he propped himself up on the stool and began to scan the room.

He took a long drink before giving Adrian a quizzical look. "That bad, eh?" It was his turn to sigh now. "So, what bird has your feathers flattened?"

Adrian gave him a grateful smirk, somehow not quite smiling, and shook his head again. "It's not a bird, sort of. It's... I don't even know. Mother's gotten worse and with the nagging I've been feeling like, I don't even know, man." He knew he wasn't making much sense but the strange feeling he'd had lately wasn't making any sense to him so in a way, what he said was just right.

Taking back his whiskey he waved for another round and turned to Blaise, "Want one? My treat."

Blaise gave a knowing nod. While he may play the part of the quintessential play boy there was something deep down that yearned to find the perfect woman and settle down. Of course he would never admit this to anyone, except the perfect woman if she ever showed herself.

"Mother used to nag," he took another swallow of his drink before lowering it. "Definitely one her less endearing qualities." He didn't know whether he should be grateful she was in France leaving him to make his own decisions or annoyed that she wasn't here to broker a decent match for him.

At Pucey's offer he gave an affirmative nod before downing the rest of his current drink. "Never let it be said that Blaise Zabini refused the offer of a friendly drink. Proper protocol dictates acceptance."

Adrian smiled at Blaise's acceptance. Always the gentleman. "France is enough to keep your mother at bay, but until Sera's baby comes along, even the other side of the world won't stop my mother from nagging. Of course, if I can make it as a sane man until December, then I'll be just fine. She'll have a new generation to faun over." He lifted his second glass when Blaise's had been brought and gave a sarcastic toast to the niece on the way.

"Well anyway, thank you for listening to me whine like a third year Hufflepuff. What have you been up to besides hanging around here watching Gobstones like you actually find them interesting?" He ordered another round for them, getting himself a stout to go with his double shot this time, too.

"Regular unannounced visits or continuous howlers?" That was the only way he could imagine that the nagging could continue. Blaise rarely heard from his mother and if he were honest he preferred it that way. Sure there were times he missed her but they tended to be fleeting. Moments and times that could easily be way laid by the presence of a lady. "Not that I suppose it matters," he took a swig of the fresh drink when it arrived.

"You've got to quit giving yourself so much credit," he leaned back and eyed a lady sitting just a few tables away. "I had you pegged as a first year Gryffindor."

"Howlers, and unannounced floo calls." Adrian laughed.

Smirking now, he retorted, "At least a first year Gryffindor wouldn't fear his mother," making fun of himself and enjoying the self-pity fest.

"Besides how rare it it is, what do you do when your mother gets on you? Surely she's excited to pair you off and continue the family tradition of being total prats?" His smile was all jest and pride - he'd gotten one in on Zabini, at least.

It always amazed Blaise at the extent some of his peers parents went through to meddle in their lives. Blaise could count on one hand how many howlers he'd ever received and none of those had been from his mother.

"Mother could care less," his tone flippant. "When she found out that Vincent left the Manor to me she swore she'd never step foot in the bloody place again." He took another drink. He didn't know how many were aware but there wasn't much money left. In fact, Blaise worked not because he desired to but because he had to. Still, he did a good job of making it look like he was still living the high life.

Adrian lifted his glass to his friend's admission, "Well then I know where to hide if Mother's ever gets it in her mind to floo over instead of just shouting at me."

Shaking his head, he tried to put the unease to the side for the moment. "Anyway, Summer potions are going out soon, did you have any orders in? And how are things at the Ministry? I have to admit, every time it's mentioned I still get a little chuckle going at you working at MGS. I never really saw any of us going that route, you know?" Had you asked him in school, the thought of any of the Slytherins ending up at the Ministry would have had Adrian laughing louder and longer than he was ever prone to.

"Just tap me on these new journal things and I'll meet you there," Blaise said bringing his hand to his pocket where the adapted book was housed.

"There were a lot of things that we couldn't have foreseen," Blaise stated. He had always known he'd end up at the Ministry. Of course he hadn't envisioned that he'd be overseeing a children's game but it was the route he had to take now that the connections he would have had with another outcome were no longer viable. "Things are well and it's something to do day in and day out."

Adrian looked at his journal, "Yeah I guess they can be used for more than Seamus' announcements," he said thoughtfully.

Waving his hand for another drink, he felt the doubles taking their hold and was confident he'd at least sleep well tonight for all the liquor. "I won't be doing any potions work tonight," he said with a wry smile when the new drink was deposited in front of him.

Blaise didn't know how these things would be used but he could definitely see how they were going to come in handy. Not only would people be able to know what was going on, they would be able to contact one another more quickly than they ever could by owl.

Blaise knew he could have one more but that would be his limit for the night so he joined Adrian in another drink. "I'm sure it will be alright. Everyone needs a night off every once in awhile." Blaise had most evenings off unless he was out of town for a tournament. Then again it was mostly schmoozing players, judges, and fellow directors.

Adrian nodded, agreeing with Blaise's sentiment. "That's true," he stood, "but I should still head up." His flat wasn't far from the pub, thankfully.

"Thank you, though, for meeting up. Coffee soon? It's been a while," he gave Blaise a half-smirk, his heart not in it, suddenly just feeling tired and a bit listless. He had to figure out what was going on in his own head, and soon. Adrian put down plenty of money for their drinks and the tip - Blaise shouldn't have to pay for listening to his maudlin crap, after all.

With another half nod and smirk and a clapped hand to Blaise's shoulder, he turned to leave, going home to go straight to bed and hope he didn't have to use some of his own stock of hangover potion in the morning. Bourbon could pack a kick if he let it.
