RP: Dinner with a friend
Who: Rose and Rolf
What: Dinner and sharing tales
Where: Rolf’s place
When: 8. September - evening
Rating: SFW

After a weekend of friends and drama and drama between friends and somehow ending up in the middle of all this drama (with no experience to draw upon, mind you), Rose was looking forward to spending an evening with her oldest – and probably closest – friend. She and Rolf had had their drama, but that was 6-7 years ago and it had been of a very different kind, with nothing even remotely resembling romance. Even though he had landed himself in a heap of trouble – and still had the scars to prove it – to protect her, it had taken a bit for her to trust him completely. It had come, though, and before the school year was over, he knew. He just knew, and as one of two people, aside from Vasile, he knew everything that had (and hadn’t) transpired between her and her parents, making him one of the three people she could truly be herself around.

Dressed in her favourite Hebridean Black hide trousers and black tank top under her dark red leather jacket, Rose scaled the stairs to Rolf’s flat with 5 minutes to spare, a bottle of red wine – perfect for spicy food – in her messenger bag, and her latest acquisition on her left hand. She hesitated a moment before she knocked, listening for any signs of the dogs that could all too easily be inside, though when she heard nothing, she went ahead, still hoping that they weren’t there.

"Don't worry, I put the dogs up," Rolf called from the kitchen. Like the downstairs, the flat was larger than one would expect from the outside. Of course, this building was one of the oldest in Diagon, situated on the corner leading into what was now Monument Alley. His grandfather's grandfather had placed the first wards on it, and subsequently charms and charms and wards had been laid on it to size up the inside and make it what it was today. You couldn't beat centuries of powerfully laid spells. "Even though Giblet gives me these huge big eyes when I tell him you're coming, because he adores you has no idea why you won't pet him." Giblet was an aging cocker spaniel who had always seemed to adore Rose, and who he had trouble locking up if the dog knew she was coming over. "The monster cat is wandering around somewhere though."

He wiped his hands and came out from the kitchen to greet her properly, with a big hug that lifted her up slightly for a second (but carefully, remember she'd mentioned an injury) and a kiss on the cheek. "Rosie, my dear, you look gorgeous tonight." And indeed she did, he thought. Rose always looked good, though. "Good evening. Come in, relax, make yourself at home." She was welcome anywhere he was, anytime. "How was your day?"

Rose released a deep breath she would have never admitted to be holding, when she heard Rolf declare the flat safe for entry. “Oh, I can handle monster cats with my wand arm tied behind my back,” Rose called back with a grin as she closed the door behind her, shaking her head slightly at Rolf’s fond description of Giblet. Granted, Giblet had all the makings of an adorable animal, complete with droopy, brown eyes and black, silky fur, all details Rose would admit to being cute, in theory, but theory and reality were all too often not reflective of each other. Because in Rose’s case, reality when it came to Giblet, and any creatures in the canine family for that matter, everything about them translated into triggers of her fight or flight instinct, or more often than not her ‘panic and don’t move a muscle until someone’s removed the beast’-instinct.

Her whole face lit up the moment she saw Rolf entering from the kitchen, and moments later she was enveloped in strong arms, inhaling Rolf’s familiar, warm scent – tonight with additional spices – before she leaned into his kiss. “Never need an excuse to look gorgeous, but you, darling, makes it all worth it,” she grinned up at him, and presented him with the bottle of wine she had brought. “You’re looking quite dashing yourself, tonight,” she continued and waved her wand to set her bootlaces to unlace so she could take off her boots.

She followed Rolf back to the kitchen, easily finding two wine glasses before she opened the bottle she had just given Rolf. “It’s been a day,” she said with a shrug as she poured each of them a glass. She looked up at him as she handed him one. “I think I need to find something to do between missions, because there’s only so much drawing I can do during a day, only so much wine I can drink before I’m considered a wino.” With a smile at him, she gently clinked her glass to his and took a sip. “No, I’d much rather hear about your day as I help you with the dinner.” Of course, by helping with dinner she meant supervising the progress, unless she was asked do to something specifically; this was Rolf’s dinner, so he was in charge of the kitchen. Rose? Rose pulled herself up to sit on the kitchen counter, legs crossed as she watched Rolf with an appreciative smile.

Rolf always tried to have any of the dogs he had around up for Rose. He couldn't pretend to understand her fear, not in the least, and he always wished she'd let him try to help her break it. He would never, ever push the issue though; after all, he had his own fears, and so he understood. "Are you sure? This cat is a doozy," he teased as he came over to her. He couldn't resist, he liked to tease her even if she wasn't easily flustered like him.

Her beaming expression at him filled him with warmth. Times with her -- and Astoria -- made being in one place very much worth it. He tweaked her hair and took the bottle of wine. "Mmm, looks good to me," he said, setting it on the counter. He felt content as she began to get comfortable.

"A day, huh? Wanna talk about it?" Rolf asked, taking the glass from her hand with a smile of thanks. He lounged against the counter next to her, feeling tall but not terribly awkward. He'd known Rose too long to feel too awkward. "Well, you know, we can find you a hobby," he told her. "I'm sure there's something out there to entertain you. Though you can always come pester me and the animals," he suggested with a teasing grin.

"Well, I can do that, though you'll probably be bored," he said with a soft laugh. He took a sip of wine and moved to start doing more on dinner. "Spicy stir fry -- do you want beef, chicken, both, shrimp, all? I stocked the larder well earlier today." It was weird, it was true, that he was crap at potions and good at cooking. Or at least, the recipes he set his mind to.

“Oh, I’m sure,” Rose assured Rolf, pleased and amused with his teasing. Rose had no problems with cats, whatsoever, or other animals for that matter. Cats were easy, at least she thought they were, and most of the time they kept to themselves anyway, so really, she couldn’t see how any cat could possibly be a problem.

“Talk about it?” Rose grinned playfully nudging her knee against Rolf’s thigh. “Baby, I’ve done nothing today. Slept in, spent an hour or so in the bathtub just luxuriating and pampering myself, drawing, warding and unwarding all, and I do mean ALL our storage spaces…” she paused for a moment. “I hope I got them all unwarded or Dennis’ll be in for a surprise when he comes home. Oh well. What I mean is, there’s nothing to talk about, unless you really want to talk about me in the bathtub, because that is by far the most interesting part of my day, until you, of course.” Seeing Rolf was always exciting, even when they were just spending time together without doing anything. She smirked up at him. “While pestering you in the shop all the time sounds like just about the perfect way to spend my time, I wouldn’t want my leisurely activities ruin your business.”

“I just told you about my day. Yours couldn’t possibly be nearly as boring,” she smiled at him, even tilting her head to emphasize that she had meant that she wanted to hear about his day. Carefully she swirled her wine before she took a sip, considering his question. “Mm, sounds delicious. Shrimp, definitely, maybe beef? Make it a little surf and turf like?” By no means was she a picky eater, so anything that Rolf would cook up; he claimed it was good, it meant that he had learned the recipe, and then he would be right about it being good.

Rolf chuckled softly. "I haven't seen him in a while," he said. They'd been friends in school but Rolf hadn't kept up with him to the same extent as Rose or Astoria. He waggled his eyebrows at her. "Oh baby, the bathtub," he said, over the top dramatic. Not that it wasn't a very intriguing mental image that he really shouldn't think about, but she'd left the door open there and so he'd tease even if he wouldn't admit it was intriguing. "Pffft, ruin the business? Yeah, right," he said.

"Not boring, I suppose, but more rote than I'm still used to, I admit," he said. It was still rather odd, not having a different set of things to go out and observe or try to discover. "Fed and cleaned first thing this morning, of course." He often got up early to do that. He'd always been a bit of an early riser, and sometimes his job had demanded it and sometimes it hadn't. "Found a few homes for a few of the animals. Most notably that furry devil Claudius the king of cats." Or rather, the very furry Kneazle mixed breed he'd had trouble placing. "Took in a few dogs and cats into the rescue, though. I think I can pass some of them on through to others to care for, but we'll see. Had a very weird customer come in, asking a million questions about all the things ever, and then abruptly leaving. I still have no idea what that was all about."

He grinned. "Surf and turf spice it is," he said, digging the required ingredients out and turning on the stove, long-fingered hands following the instructions he'd memorized a while back. He had a sheet for reference on the counter, but he'd done this one several times before.

“I’ll send him your way the next time I see him,” Rose promised with a grin. It had only been towards the end of her fifth year that she had met Dennis at school, but their friendship hadn’t really kicked off until her sixth year – Dennis’ seventh year – after Rolf had finished. One day she Dennis had been her height, someone she could talk to, literally see eye to eye with, and then it seemed that the next day he had grown about as tall as Rolf. It had just always been different with Rolf, always would be different with Rolf, whose friendship was only really equalled by the one she had with Vasile. Then again, those two friendships couldn’t really be compared either, because Rose would never find herself mentioning pampering herself while naked in the bathtub to Vasile… that just seemed wrong in the most wrong way of ways. “Mm, yeah, the bathtub.” Oh how she had used and abused her bathtub since returning from Peru. Some missions just made it that much more difficult to feel completely clean again. “Oh, I’d ruin your business. I’d demand your constant attention which would mean lower service for the customers, spook the animals or well, just be in the way.”

“Aww, you found Claudius a home?” Rose cooed, a little surprised to find something akin to melancholy at the furry beastie finally having found a home. The mention of the odd customer had her draw back a little to look up at Rolf with a confused frown on her brow. “Someone scoping out the competition?” she suggested. It did sound like it was all routine things, but even that was a bit of a novelty to hear about when it came from Rolf. Wasn’t it just bordering on ironic that right around the same time she finished basic training here in London to join a team of Cursebreakers who travelled the world, Rolf would settle into a less nomadic lifestyle just down the street from what would now be her homebase?

Sipping from her wine, Rose spent a couple of moments watching Rolf cook. She had always found his long fingers elegant, but like this they just became a thing of true beauty to watch. “Any plans of travelling soon?” she asked him, drawing her eyes from the hands she so enjoyed capturing on paper to meet his eyes.

Merlin but she made that sound sinfully decadent. He firmly told his brain and its imagery to shut up because this was Rose, after all. As if his brain cared. He chuckled again though and grinned warmly. "Ah the tub, the beacon of all that is holy to any who travel and don't have one for a while," he intoned. "All hail the bath. Hail hail." He'd been known tonlock himself in his after a long expedition of either cold or lukewarm showers or simply rivers.

"Ah yes, and I would give you said attention. Alas that I have no great assistant right now or I'd tell you to come anyway." He bent over and kissed her hair. "But you'd never be in my way, Rosie."

"Surprisingly, I have. Granted the girl probably weighs only twice what he does and she'll spend more time brushing his hair than hers, but the connection was immediate." It thrilled him and that was obvious. "I have no idea. Somedays the weirdos just come out of the woodwork."

The silences were always easy with Rose and he didn't always chatter to fill them. It felt good just to have her there. "I want to," he admitted. "I don't know where might be in reach for a day or two that wouldn't bring down the wrath of a Healer for overdoing it though. It still makes me tetchy a little to stay in one place too long." That reminded him. "Speaking of travel, weren't you going to tell me about Peru?"

“It’ll be a happy occasion when we’re called out to excavate a shrine for the Bathtub Almighty.” Rose met Rolf’s warm grin with one of her own. “I’ll make sure to have you Portkeyed in so you can witness it.” Because if anyone aside from a fellow Cursebreaker could appreciate the sheer awesomeness that a bathtub could be, Rolf would be that person. That was just one of the many, many things she loved about him. He got her, understood her, even played along on the silly wanderings her mind could take sometimes, just like he invited her to join him when his did the same thing. There was nothing but acceptance when it came to Rolf.

“You would.” She closed her eyes and finding comfort in the chaste, tender gesture. “Which is why I wouldn’t let you do that.” The Bestiary might not be the perfect solution for Rolf, but it was part of his family’s legacy and she wouldn’t let him risk that just because he was too kind a man to turn her down.

Rose had always made a point out of never regretting anything she did or had done. For the most part, she had succeeded. One of those few parts, however, was not having gone into Healer training after Hogwarts, for the simple reason that maybe she would have been able to help Rolf by Healing his injury completely. “What are the Healers saying?” she asked, unable and unwilling to mask the concern she felt for him. “How are you doing? It wouldn’t have to be an expedition expedition, but maybe just a short getaway to a cabin in the Carpathians or Nepal wouldn’t be too bad. Just for a change of scenery.”

“I did say that I would, didn’t I?” Rose said with a smirk and shrug before she drank from her wine. “We were in Marayniyuq,” she started, then cut herself off with a chuckle. “Usually quite dusty, but this time, it was pouring rain, so there was mud everywhere, which I admit can be much more fun that regular dust.” With a wink she chuckled and rested her temple against the cupboard, watching how he moved as he prepared their dinner. “There was a bit of a clerical error in the brief we’d gotten, so when I was sent in first, I fully expected at least something in the vicinity of the 30 feet 40 degree slope. What I hadn’t expected was that it wasn’t 30 feet. It was 300 feet long, covered in fresh, slippery mud. So down the slippery slope yours truly went, mud getting in everywhere, and yeah, sure, that did give some bruises and most of the cuts, it was nothing compared to when I’d landed and only then realised exactly how close Barryson really was. Because I only had a split second from I landed until I had oh, I’d say 250 pounds with very pointy elbows landing right on top of me.” With a quick move of her arm, she shrugged her shirt up, baring the right side of her back to him where the scars from the cuts were still criss-crossing and the skin still held a slightly yellowish tint. “Everything’s pretty much Healed, just the ribs that are a little sore still.”

"If you don't pull me in on that one, you'll break my heart." He gave her a pouty face. "After all the times I've worshipped one after being in the field for two weeks straight, I would deserve to visit the altar of The All Powerful and Mighty Bathtub. We should make a shrine anyway, for future generations to discover!" There were times he had so much dirt on him he didn't know if it'd ever come off.

He gave her another faintly pouty look, for he'd enjoy having her around even more often. Maybe if he could get a reliable and knowledgeable assistant, he could do it more. He liked the store, no doubt, but it'd be nice to play hooky on occasion and drag her away for some fun. She was his bestfriend, after all, and he absolutely adored her.

"They're saying that I'm lucky they managed to save the major ligaments and tendons, and that eventually the scar tissue and muscles should stretch and I might not have a limp anymore." He grimaced faintly. He hated any show of weakness, and she was possibly the only person he'd admitted how he felt about the injury to. It didn't always hold up to a lot of strain, still, and he would HAVE to build up to major field work. And even then, he might not be able to completely do some of what he used to. It was a wait and see game. "For now, it's work the muscles and scar tissue carefully, and it will probably start to work better." He hadn't shown her the entire set of scars -- he'd have to strip for that -- but they were among the most impressive he carried, all down his right leg on the whole, with others scattered about. He did wonder if the hot-stretch-pain-soreness would ever go completely away, though. They never quite said. "Oh, that would be great." He perked up slightly. "Is there anywhere you want to visit? We could go be tourists for a weekend of something."

Rolf took a moment to top off her wine a little more, and his as well, and listened with an attentive expression even as he cooked. Lovely, spicy smells started to come from the pan. "Well, shite," he said. Not one to curse over nothing, it was nonetheless a succinct summation of what had happened. "Typos, hell." All of that over a typo, good Merlin and Nimue. He wiped his hands and bent down to look keenly at her back, fingers moving to soothe over the scars, gentle and caring. "Oh, Rosie, ouch. That had to hurt like a son-of-a-sphinx. I'm so sorry."

“Aww,” Rose cooed, unable to resist Rolf’s pouty face. In her mind anyone who could were heartless beasts. “I’d never break your heart, love, and you’ll be the first one I tell when that happens.” His idea of making a shrine had her laughing with delight. “Mm, the temple should be a bathhouse with if not daily then at least weekly worship sessions and people will bring fragrant soaps and burn essential oils for a better bath kharma?”

And again with the pout! Only this time Rose pouted too, as she reached up to pat his cheek. “I promise I’ll stop by the shop more, but only so long as it doesn’t interfere too much with your work.”

Rose listened carefully as Rolf talked about his injury. She had been so scared and worried when she had first learned of what had happened, though even if she still worried about him, it was in a different way. Rolf was still Rolf, except he was a little different and even their friendship had changed a bit as it had lost some of the rough and tumble they hadn’t shied away from in the past. That wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but Rose still wanted nothing more for Rolf than for him to feel completely fit and strong again. “It sounds like it’s going the right way, though,” she smiled at him, firmly believing that even if the unthinkable should happen and he never fully recovered, he would still be able to be his amazing and wonderful strong self who could outshine anyone without even trying. “You know,” she said with a bit of a smirk, “I’ve never been a tourist before. Anywhere I’ve gone it’s always been with a purpose and not to just take the time it took to look around and be, well, touristy, so anywhere would be a fun place to go like that.”

She hissed softly when she felt Rolf’s fingers on her skin. Not because it hurt – it didn’t – or tickled – it didn’t, not much at least – but because of the gentle caress it felt like. “Ouch, indeed,” she agreed, then shook her head with a chuckle. “But it’s nothing serious or even dangerous, just a stupid way to get injured considering all the Curses we actually found in that place. Didn’t even catch as much as a zap from either of them.” Her eyes danced as she looked up at him, her smile playful and teasing with the revelation she was about to make. “If I’m to be completely honest, if you don’t count in Barryson landing on me afterwards, that slide down the slope was… that was brilliant and worth every single cut and bruise. I just wish I’d done it voluntarily instead of by accident because of a simple mistake,” she admitted as she pulled her shirt back down again. “Mmm, this smells amazing, Ro.”

"A giant Roman bath house," he said, spreading his hand as if imagining it in front of him. "With limitless hot water, and lots and lots of wonderful tubs. With oils and bubbles and all kinds of awesome options, and fresh scrub brushes forever and EVER." Okay, so he was being silly, but it was a lot of fun and it made her laugh to boot, so he was happy. Besides, it sounded delightful to him.

Her optimism buoyed him, and he could find himself believing more when she said it than when anyone else or even he said it. "It is," he said more firmly. Even if it was a lot slower than he wanted. "But I'd been really looking forward to showing you some of the moves I learned recently, so you could learn them too." He always worried about sparring with her, for he would never want to hurt her even on accident, but sharing was good. He liked sharing.

"Never! Well now, we're going to have to change that. We need to find somewhere with the cheesiest tourist things ever so you can get the whole experience. Hmmmm."

He immediately worried that he had hurt something, and his fingers gentled even further, tracing a scar gently. He rather thought those might fade away completely in time. He snorted in amusement. "Not from the curses at all," he repeated, shaking his head slightly. He outright laughed when she made her admission. "You! You wicked thing," he teased, removing his hand when he suddenly realized his touch had lingered for a moment. "I admit, it does sound like fun, sans elbows. Elbows are dangerous, Rose. Remember this. No Elbows." He mock shook his finger at her, ending with a playful tap to the nose.

"Thanks. I think I've got it down pretty well," he said, turning back to the stove and going back to finishing the meal. It was almost done, and he took a moment to get out the plates so he could serve.

“Now that is a house of worship I could get behind,” Rose grinned, excited by how it just felt so easy and natural to let her mind wander and imagination flow with Rolf. “The priests and priestesses would ensure that there was never a shortage on big, fluffy towels for the worshippers and replenishing the thousands of candles that would be the only source of lighting.”

More than anything, Rose wished that she could do something, anything, to help Rolf’s healing along, preferably skip it all together and go straight back to his completely uninjured state. For now, though, all she could do was watch and believe in him. And believe in him she did. “Well, then you’ll have that to show me and I’ll have that to look forward to.” Her smile was bright, enthusiastic for the future and not just because she missed sparring with him. Of course, she sometimes wished that he wouldn’t hold back, that he would trust her when she told him to just give it his all and that she could take it and if she couldn’t then she was fast to heal.

Rose shook her head with a soft laugh. “No, never,” she confirmed, still excited about the idea. “There’s always been a purpose for my going anywhere, but visiting friends is the closest thing to being a tourist I’ve come. Where should we go first?”

Scrunching up her nose, Rose didn’t object to the tap on her nose, though it did make her grin. “No elbows. Elbows bad,” she agreed, trying – and failing miserably – to keep an appropriately chastised tone to her voice. The way he had drawn his hand back, after his fingers had lingered on her skin was the very reason why Rose would never take Susan’s advice about making a move for him. What she felt for Rolf wasn’t just a crush or a simple infatuation and she had known that for a long time. She had seen him in love, seen him head over heels with a girl and been genuinely happy for him. Of course she had also seen him heartbroken after the girl up and left, and she had felt his pain, wanting to go after the witch and make her pay for what she had done. She wanted him happy no matter what that included and if it wasn’t her, then it wasn’t her, and there wasn’t a shadow of a doubt in her mind, that things wouldn’t really be all that different if that ever happened. They would still be them, just with more touching. Then again, they were pretty tactile, both of them, so it wouldn’t make that much of a difference, at least not one Rose was concerned about.

After one more sip of her wine, Rose scooted back down from the kitchen counter and took the plates from Rolf so he had his hands free to serve them. “By the looks of it, I’d say you do,” she said as she came up next to him to take a peek before she inhaled deeply. “And the smell, too.” And as if on cue her stomach gave a very un-girly like rumble reminding her of just how hungry she actually was.

"Warm big fluffy towels," he said with a delighted sigh. He put his hands over his heart and looked skyward. "Oh, my dream place. All those weeks in the Serengeti, oh gods I could have used a place like that. And bath oils."

He smiled. "Give me a week or two and maybe I'll be able to show you," he said. He'd work extra hard on his balance. He'd heard of yoga in the area, and though he normally did that on his own... maybe someone had some tips? As embarrassing as it could potentially be. And maybe get in shape to spar and everything again, though that fear of hurting her might always haunt him. He protected her, more than possibly anyone in this world.

"Oh, lessee." He hmmed and waved a hand, Summoning a map (of course he had one nearby) almost absentmindedly. "Stick your finger on it somewhere, only not the middle of the ocean, pretty please with cherries on top." He gave her a winning smile over one shoulder.

"Game face is slipping," he teased, pretending to flick her nose this time. He was always handsy with her, something that had never really occurred to him until now, when he still remembered the warmth of the skin of her back on his fingers. While demonstrative with the people he cared about, he was almost doubly so with her. He'd never thought about it before. He struggled with a flush, pushing it down, and told himself to think about it later.

He chuckled at her stomach growling. "Miss grumbly tummy," he said, peering down at her under his arm. He served up the dish and grabbed some things out of the fridge, warming them slowly with the tap of a wand and dishing them out as side dishes. "Aaaaand dinner is served, my lady," he said.

“Mmm,” Rose sighed dreamily, then her smile broke into a bright grin as she sat up straight. “Screw worshipping in that place. I’ll take up permanent residence there!”

“A week or two,” she agreed with a fond smile, though she still leaned in with a concerned look in her eyes. “And if you’re not ready by then, you can talk me through it. Is there anything I can do to help you, I don’t know, do exercises that might help?” Maybe they couldn’t spar or learn new moves, but recuperation was a big part of being able to defend yourself, and taking care of Rolf in any way she could, was always at the forefront of Rose’s mind.

Seeing that winning smile had Rose tilt her head and purse her lips slightly. “But I hear French Polynesia’s lovely this time of year,” she pouted prettily, then smirked and shrugged. “Of course, if we only go for a day or two, it should probably be in a timezone not too different from here.” With a push of her hands, she scooted to the edge of the kitchen counter so she could look at the map over his shoulder. Resting her cheek on his shoulder, she closed her eyes and circled her finger over the area where she knew Europe would be, before she set it down. “How did I do?” she asked and looked at Rolf instead of the map.

Playfully Rose snapped at Rolf’s fingers as he pretended to flick her nose. When this physical closeness had appeared, she didn’t know. It had just sort of grown as a natural part of their friendship though it hadn’t been until the last year or so that she had begun savouring it in a way that was far from sisterly or even friendly.

She licked her lips as she watched him serve the food, almost purring at the thought of actually eating it. “Ah, thank you kindly, good sir,” she grinned back up at him. “If you could lead the way, I believe we shall dine in the eastern dining hall today?” She followed him to the table, grabbing her glass of wine on the way and almost immediately pulled up one foot to make herself comfortable as they ate. “Sweet Helga, this is good,” she appreciated aloud after her first bite. “I might just apply to adopt you or take you on as personal chef.”

Rolf started to tell her no, there was nothing. It was his standard answer, and for most people, also the honest one. But she was far from most people and deserved more than the standard answer. "I .. could possibly use a spotter when I try things?" he ventured almost shyly, head ducking slightly. She was the person he could trust to not make fun (well, he was embarrassed at his problems, anyway), and to help him without making him feel vulnerable.

"How do you feel about going to a beach in Greece, mon ami?" he said with a grin. The thought of her in a bathing suit flashed through his mind, very distracting and not helping with how he was suddenly realizing so many things.

He laughed softly and led her to the table, setting down his place and pulling the chair out for her before taking a seat himself. He grinned proudly. "So glad you like it," he said. He knew he hadn't made this particular one for her before. "I would gladly serve you in any way." His smile was warm and happy as he thought on it for a second.

There was a moment, one of those exceedingly rare moments, when Rose hadn’t a clue what Rolf was going to answer; not even the vaguest idea if he was going to say no or start listing all the things he could possibly need her help or simply walk away and ignore her offer completely. But he did neither. Instead he looked down, shy almost, though with a soft smile, Rose gently nudge his hand with her knee. “Just name the place and time tell me what you need me to do.” It really was that simple, and truth be told, she was more than happy to help, first and foremost because it would help Rolf, but on a more personal note because it meant she got to spend more time with him.

“Greece?!” Rose grinned, bouncing where she sat with excitement for this upcoming adventure. “The dig in Malia is amazing,” she gushed, then bit her lip to keep quiet. They had been talking about playing tourists and Rolf had just specifically mentioned a beach, which actually sounded wonderful in and of its own. “I feel that going to a beach in Greece would be perfect, dragul meu.”

The food really was delicious, and Rose didn’t waste any time in digging in, though she did look at Rolf. His words had her smirking as she swallowed her mouthful and took a sip of her wine. “I might just take you up on that, someday.” With Rolf there was never any doubt; Rose knew that she could ask everything of him and that was why she didn’t want to take advantage of it, though that didn’t mean she couldn’t tease him a little. Besides, only a blind fool wouldn’t see the allure in having Rolf serve you in any way.

"Maybe one day next week, whatever is best for you, you could come over and we could go through some yoga or katas and see how it goes," he suggested hopefully. Not only would it be an excellent excuse to have her over, especially in the morning if she wanted, but she wouldn't make fun like people might in a more public venue. While Rolf could and often did laugh at himself, he hated feeling vulnerable. Rose didn't make him feel that way, at least not in the threatened sense.

He smiled fondly and nudged her chin gently with a finger. "There's no rules, Rosie my girl. How about we try for four days, if you can get away for that long. We can do two in some beach and in some town, and two wr can go be geeky in Malia. I'd like to see that too."

Rolf ate heartily as well, glad at least his appetite had made a hearty recovery. "Hail Rose, queen among women," he said, grinning over his wine glass at her. "I'll even feed you grapes. How's that sound?"

“Unless I’m called out on a mission before, then I’m free all week,” Rose smiled at him, already looking forward to it. “Just keep in mind, that the only yoga I know is what you’ve taught me, but I can still spot.”

That gentle nudge to her chin had her cheeks heat up slightly, in that way that only Rolf could do when he was being so unbelievably sweet. “If you can get away for four days, then I can too,” she grinned. “You’ll love Malia. Trust me.”

Sipping from her own wine glass, Rose caught Rolf’s gaze over it. “You had me at hail.”

"Let me see if I can get something together quickly. I could always ask grandfather, but if I can find someone else, I'd rather." Of all his family that was older than him, he got along best with his grandfather, though that was something that still was stiff at times. Compared to his parents and his grandmother, though, it was positively congenial. "That's fine. Just so long as I don't always fall on my arse, I'm good," he told her.

Her smile was worth it even if he didn't like Malia, and he truly believed he would. It was an interest they shared, which was a good thing because often if he didn't like something, he didn't like to pay it much mind. That hardly ever happened with Rose though. "I do. I'm not worried."

He laughed softly. "Hail hail hail," he chanted then, grinning at her.
