Since it was technically the off-season, Marcus didn't feel quite as badly about sleeping in later than usual. Normally he was the awake rather early, but Roger had the ability to convince him to stay in bed most mornings if they had slept at the same place, which was happening more and more often as of late. Still, eventually he felt the need to get up and dressed and to do something. As with most days when he didn't have any particular plans, he was considering stopping by St. Mungo's to see his mother.

Once he'd finally managed to get up, Marcus had debated about making breakfast before deciding to shower first. Leaving Roger in bed, he'd made his way into the bathroom, halfway expecting his lover to wind up joining him midway through his shower.

Roger rolled his eyes pointedly - and no doubt pointlessly - at his lover. "Well I wasn't expecting to need to be fully dressed, but yes fine." He disappeared into the bedroom for a moment and yanked on a pair of jeans and slightly crumpled top, and reappeared to refocus on the preparing the tea as Marcus led the still crying women - Bryony - to the sofa.

He watched them out of the corner of his eye as put three mugs, some milk, some sugar, and and a pot of honey on a tray. He looked up startled as she began to apologise and knitted his eyebrows with confusion. "You've nothing to apologise for dear," he said firmly. "Plus, you're distraught and I'm an Englishman - the laws of land and country demand that you get tea, right Marc?"

Once the tea finished brewing he floated it over to where the two were sitting and sat down at a respectful and hopefully non-threatening distance and indicated with a sweeping gesture that they should help themselves. "Sorry that I was less than adequately dressed," he added, almost as an afterthought as he leant forward to fix himself a cup of tea.

Once Bryony was seated on the couch, Marcus knelt so that he was in front of her, all his attention focused on her and what she needed. He barely noticed Roger leaving the room, just an instinctual tracking of the movement around him born of the war, which was a habit he'd never bothered trying to rid himself of.

"There's nothing to be sorry for, and you're not going anywhere, love," he said quietly, offering her a soft smile. He wouldn't ask, but he had his suspicions about what - or more specifically, who - had been the cause of this, and there was no need to make Bryony relive the experience by telling him about it. Reaching up slowly so that she could move away if she wished, Marcus used the pad of his thumb to brush away one of the tears she'd missed with the handkerchief.

"I was going to cook breakfast shortly. What would you like?" he asked, an offer of comfort in the best way he knew how.

"It's stupid," Bryony mumbled, in an attempt to make them both stop worrying about her. "Just-" But she couldn't get any further, not in front of Roger. Even with Marcus, she rarely talked about her mother - she didn't need to, he'd seen it all first hand as they grew up together. Though she leaned into Marcus's hand, her eyes were on Roger, her curiosity at seeing him for the first time a welcome distraction, even if she wished she could make a better first impression than this. She'd seen photos of him, of course. She followed Quidditch in any paper or magazine she could get her hands on. Seeing him in person, and in Marcus's flat, was very different. He wore muggle clothes - like Dean - and called Marcus 'Marc', but he seemed nice - he'd offered tea, and called her 'dear'.

She turned her attention back to Marcus with a weak smile when he mentioned breakfast. That he offered her food, without qualifying that it should be healthy or small, when she was already too big to be a presentable bridesmaid was strangely comforting. He couldn't have known that, of course, but he had always accepted Bryony no matter what her weight - and never openly supported the strict diets that Iris attempted to enforce. "I had breakfast with mother," she said, giving him a clue he probably didn't need as to what was wrong. "I'm not hungry."

As Roger came closer with tea, and apologised, Bryony glanced up at him again and blushed. "It's - alright," she said, with only a slight hesitation. "I should have owled first." She would have to learn to do that, in future, though it seemed very strange not to be free to come and go as she pleased. She retrieved her own wand and levitated the tea closer until she could catch it and wrap her hands around the warming cup. "Thank you."

Roger watched the conversation between the two friends, feeling incredibly out of place. He knew it wasn't the intention of either - though Marcus would get taken down a peg for the brusque demand to get dressed. Or maybe frozen out for a little while, both worked in Roger's opinion. Shaking his head slightly he refocused on eavesdropping on the conversation, trying to work out why she was so very sad. He had an inkling it was a continuation of something from the way they were acting, but he didn't want to make any assumptions.

He lifted his eyebrows and looked at Marcus. "Not my place to say to be honest. I'm not always naked, but it didn't bother me at all when you showed up?" He looked at Marcus again, feeling oddly offended that he wasn't spared any attention at all, and feeling even more like an outsider than ever. "Well, you two have a lot to talk about so maybe I should leave you alone?" He got up and flicked his wand to summon his keys.

"If it upset you, it's not stupid," Marcus countered softly, though in a tone that indicated he wasn't going to question her further. He would never pressure Bryony to talk about something she didn't want to, especially once she explained that she'd been with her mother, to which he just nodded to show his understanding. Of course Iris was at fault, but that wasn't something he could say aloud, even if had just been the two of them.

He did shake his head slightly at her mention of owling before coming over - with as unhappy as she'd obviously been when she arrived, he couldn't imagine making her wait any extra time. The knowledge that they would always support one another was just a fact of life, and he reminded her, "You're always welcome here."

Marcus looked over at Roger when the other man stood, confusion evident on his face. "You don't have to go anywhere," he said, standing from his former position on the floor as if to follow him, but unable to bring himself to step away from Bryony.

Bryony did her best to smile when Marcus said she was always welcome, but she didn't quite believe him. It was no fault of his, simply that arriving to find Roger half-dressed had woken her up to the fact that Marcus's life had changed now and she would have to adapt to be considerate of that fact. Right now, that idea still made her ache inside, but that didn't mean she wouldn't do it.

When Marcus stood, Bryony looked up to. "Please, don't go," she said, forcing another smile. "I've wanted to meet you for so long." She dabbed at her face again, making a sound which was intended to be a laugh, though it didn't come off. "I'd rather it hadn't been like this, but please..." She looked at Marcus for support. The last thing she wanted was to chase Roger away - but she was bad at small talk at the best of times, and as upset as she was couldn't think of a single thing to ask Roger about himself.
