Bryce was still more comfortable in the Muggle world than the magical one, especially because clothing was much easier. His sister Madison and her girlfriend Lucille had come by that morning to pick him and Sophie up, bringing along a t-shirt for him and a new dress for Sophie. He might have complained about his daughter getting spoiled, but since it was in the spirit of celebration, he'd let it slide.
The little girl was having a blast. She was still excited by the gift - and the number of compliments she'd received on it - as well as the balloons tied to her wrist and the sheer number of rainbows as far as the eye could see. Bryce was actually expecting a bit of a meltdown later, once she crashed from the sugar in the ice cream she had convinced Lucille to share with her, but for the time being he was happy to trail along after the three women, Sophie dragging him along by the grip he had on her hand to keep her from bounding off in her enthusiasm to see everything she could.
Feeling the hand on his shoulder, Bryce stopped, automatically pulling Sophie a little closer to him as he turned around. "Thanks," he said, returning the woman's smile. "You're absolutely right." He took the bottle out of her hand, trying to quickly figure out the best way to get the sunscreen back into his backpack without letting go of Sophie.
His daughter solved that problem for him, peering around his leg to see who he was talking to, and taking a step to come around in front of him to say, "Your shirt is really pretty!"
"Stay there for a second okay, princess?" he asked her, slinging the bag off his shoulders before crouching to set it down to open it.
