RP: Grandpa Pucey's Estate
Who: Rose + Chris
What: The first round of Cursebreaking on "Old Man Pucey's" grounds
When: Friday, July 3rd, afternoon
Where: Cambridgeshire, Grandpa Pucey's former Estate (nextdoor to the current Pucey Estate owned by Adrian's parents)
Rating: Most likely SFW

Luckily, it was a beautiful day. Chris wasn't one for chilly or wet weather, but it was in the 20's and the sun wasn't shining too strongly for good sight and good wandering. It reminded him of Spring in Mexico, if he really thought about it. He apparated up to Cambridgeshire a little outside of the grounds of the estate, a few minutes before 3, hoping to beat Rose there.

The grounds were in need of repair, and the house had untold mysteries waiting in it, but the area was beautiful and he felt a sense of pride. He hadn't done much since he'd arrived back from North America. He'd asked the Foundation for a lot of money and then had no idea what to do with it. He'd considered going back to Mexico and just going back to building houses. He was good with his hands, and with his words when he needed to be, but this was a different world. And then the sale had gone through and he'd realized he was building homes in a different way this time. With that thought, he looked toward the estate with a determined set to his mouth. Rose would help break the door down, figuratively speaking, and then he'd be free to get to work.

Rose had spent most of the time since Chris’ message deliberating whether she should bring Ant or not. He had to learn someday, right? And it would probably be better for him to start learning while she wasn’t on an official assignment. The rest of the time she had read up on the Pucey family, just to get an idea of what sort of curses they’d be prone to using. As it was, curses didn’t really seem to be their thing, but then again, even Potions Masters had warped minds when it came to protecting their ingredients and finished products.

She looked at Ant for a moment. It was almost time to go. Potions and ingredients and a growing wiggle… Rose filled his bowl to have him eat just a bit extra, simply to ensure that it wasn’t hunger that had him seeking out anything edible. Ant, it seemed as he wolfed down the food, didn’t mind that solution in the least.

Not long after, Rose arrived at the Pucey Estate with a POP, her hand resting comfortably on Ant’s tall back to side-along him. The sun was warm on her bare arms, but the general state of the place made her grateful for her solid knee-high boots.

“Chris Summers, I presume,” she asked with a slight smirk as she shielded her eyes from the sun to get a better look at the person already there.

Chris grinned when he saw the Irish Wolfhound - he was a big one! "He's gorgeous!" He said, his usual cocky demeanor melted at the cuteness (he couldn't help, something about babies and animals). And then he looked to the animal's owner and remembered himself, "Oh, yes," he put out his hand, "I'm Chris from the Foundation, nice to meet you Rose." Chris had put up basic wards on the property when the purchase was finalized - with Adrian Pucey's help, thanks to Alicia - and he pulled out his wand to allow them through, including her pet.

It hadn't occurred to him to ask why she'd brought the animal. "Shall we?" He asked.

Rose’s smirk quirked up into a more genuine smile when she saw Chris’ reaction to Ant. “He knows it,” she told him. She eyed him for a moment, trying to place him. He was older than her, sure, but not so old that they wouldn’t have overlapped at Hogwarts… unless he hadn’t gone there, which the hint of twang in his speech had her suspect that he hadn’t.

“Nice to meet you, too, Chris,” she said, accepting his hand before she gestured to Ant. “And this here’s Ant. He’s here to learn.” She held out her hand to Ant who immediately returned to her side while sniffing her fingers.

“Lead the way,” she agreed and followed him towards the manor. “Have you been inside?” she asked as they walked, trying to get an idea of how much was known. “Or been given any information about what we may find in there?”

Chris nodded as he lead the way onto the grounds and up the dirt road that lead to the manor. "I have, with the realtor and a couple of investors when we weighing our options. We didn't get to do too extensive of a tour because of the potential for curses and boobytraps, but I've spoken to the previous owner's grandson and he gave us a good idea. Apparently the eldest Pucey is a bit of a paranoid nutter, so Adrian warned us to look for booby traps of the magical and muggle kind, potions disguised as other things - edible and not, and wards for confusion or repelling. The realtor took down the wards on the property with Adrian's help, but didn't want to do the ones on or in the building without a professional." By the end, they were at the front door.

"I'm not sure how this goes..." He admitted.

Rose nodded, listening as Chris spoke, and storing away every tiny bit of information. Great, Muggle booby traps and Potions, always the trickiest to locate and disable. As they stood by the door, she looked down at Ant again. He had to learn, sure, but he was still young and playful, which was a bad combination when it came to booby traps. She ruffled the fur behind his ear before she reached into her pocket and pulled out four bright red marbles. One by one she threw them out in the area in front of the house, each of them marking the corner of a rectangle about the size of her flat. “Go on, my love,” she said to Ant and pointed to the area, making sure that his collar was safely around his neck. “It won’t be long, but you can’t go in there.” With a small wruff Ant turned around and trudged into the area, activating the ward that would keep him from leaving the marked area.

“Well,” she said as she stood back up again. “Either we or I take a walk around the house, careful not to touch anything, while I cast spells to determine where and what kind of surprises might be lurking in there. Then, all depending on how many there are, I’ll start removing them, and any cursed objects we’ll pack up safely and bring in to be assessed and Cursebroken before they’re returned. Want to come?”

Chris looked up at the building and whistled. This was going to be a much longer project than he'd imagined, but he shrugged, "Sure, why not?" It's not like he was going to send her in alone, trained Cursebreaker or not - you didn't send anyone alone into a potentially dangerous situation, especially on your behalf.

He stood slightly behind her at the front door, not sure what she might have to do with the entrance, but he knew the entrance should be fine thanks to his time with the realtor and so he told her as much and asked what he should do once they were inside, not wanting to get in her way.

“Bine!*” Rose agreed. Some would argue that she had only asked because it was the polite thing to do, however, anyone who would argue that obviously didn’t know Rose. Rose didn’t do polite, however, that didn’t mean that she wasn’t. She just didn’t ask people if they wanted to come along if she would really have a problem with them being there, and Chris? Well, Chris’ company didn’t really bother her. “Just keep your eyes open and don’t touch anything unless you’re sure it’s harmless.” She paused for a moment before she added. “And give a heads up if you see or sense anything, and I’ll do the same, da?”

Once inside the building, wand at the ready, Rose began murmuring detection Spells and Charms as she walked around to try and get an idea of the place. It didn’t seem too ominous, but she could feel the hum of magic around her. It promised a fairly easy task at hand, and even more so without the added risk of cave-ins, flash floods, or mudslides.

*Bine! = Alright!
