RP: Friday night Open Mic
Who: Cho + Open
What: Cho needs some cheering up so she goes to Open Mic Night after work.
When: Friday, July 3rd, PM
Where: Common Room, Finnigan's Pub
Rating: SFW

Original songs weren't Cho's thing, but she figured it might be good for her mood. She had gotten a hold of herself after writing the girls, but she hadn't been able to shake her doldrums. And so after her second un-productive day in a row at her office on Diagon Alley, she stopped in to Finnigan's Common Room on her walk home. She said hello to some familiar faces and got herself a glass of pinot grigio before taking a seat in a darker corner of the room, hoping to watch without being seen. Cho loved karaoke nights even if she couldn't carry a tune, but Open Mic was different and she hoped for some good laughs and thoughtful artists.

Crossing her legs and taking a good long drink of wine, she sighed. She knew when she'd started seeing Fin that he was married, but she hadn't known then that it would really bother her. At the time they weren't exactly... Well, anything. They started out just sort of running into each other and then he'd introduced her to his teammates and they'd been 'public' and then she'd been falling for him and... Cho couldn't help it, she was traditional, she supposed. She met a man she was falling in love with, and she spent most of her time with happy couples and glowing brides and celebrating families and it had all started to get so mangled up in her head that she felt herself hating her own happiness.

But ignoring those thoughts was exactly why she'd brought herself to the Pub in the first place, so she straightened up in her seat and gave her attention to the first singer, who was setting up with his acoustic guitar now.

Lavender had clean forgotten that it was open mic night when she walked into Finnigan's. It had been a long afternoon at the Ministry catching up on paperwork, so she blamed that for being a little fuzzy-headed. She wasn't tired, though, so she wanted a bit of noise after the dull quiet of the office. That it was open mic night was even better than expected.

Glass of merlot in hand, she wound her way through the pub and away from her usual perch at the bar, deciding that it was too busy to side there tonight. Besides, she might find a better vantage point from which to do a little people watching while she had her drink. If she didn't spill it, that is. Squeezing past someone who was going in the opposite direction, she accidentally bumped against a table. "Oh, sorry!" she apologised quickly, brightening when she saw who was sitting there. "And hello. I haven't seen you for a while."

Cho looked up at the body that had bumped her table and smiled, "Lavender!" She was so relieved to see someone she knew and who tended to be a cheerful influence. "Yeah, wedding season takes over my life, so it's been ages since I got to Dueling Club, I'm sorry," she gave the petite brunette a shamed look but then smiled again, "Would you like to join me?"

Indicating the empty chair at the table, she said, "How are you doing these days?"

"Oh, I bet it does," Lavender said sympathetically. "It's fine. If you have an evening off, you should definitely take it. Don't worry about throwing hexes around," she added with a grin. Nodding, she slipped into the empty chair, glad that she wouldn't need to concern herself with taking up a table by herself.

Lavender put her glass down on a mat. "I'm doing well, thanks. Spent most of last month doing night shifts, so I'm just getting used to being back on a normal schedule. Do you have a wedding this weekend?"

Cho smiled, "That's why Cormac was so pouty all month, he must've missed you, wouldn't leave me and Mel alone with owls and stopping in to the shop and sitting out on his roof, sending spit balls over to ours." She laughed at the memory.

Shaking her head she sighed, "No, thankfully," but didn't elaborate despite the sad look that graced her features. She was so grateful to have a break from the romance and the happily-ever-after but she didn't quite know how to explain that. She shook her head slightly and looked back to Lavender, "I bet you're glad to be back to normal, I can't imagine how switching to nights must throw your life upside down."

Lavender covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing. "Oh, that man has some serious pouting skills. I hope he wasn't too annoying." He'd probably been working out a fair bit, too, so it was a wonder he'd had the energy for it.

"Mm." She nodded, fiddling with the stem of her glass. "Yeah. My schedule just gets muddled up. It's not so bad after a few days, but then I inevitably have to switch back." Lavender gave a wry smile, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"He does, doesn't he?" Cho giggled softly, glad Lavender hadn't taken offense. "He was only a tad more annoying than usual, so we survived," she winked, "just don't go disappearing into the halls of the Ministry again any time soon, yeah?"

Cho nodded, understanding. "When my family and I spend more time in Hong Kong in the Winter, my schedule gets so thrown off I take a few days off in early March to recuperate."

"Speaking of Cormac, though, Melinda says it's going well between you, too. You have to tell me everything! I've never seen him so completely smitten and seeing as he's my mum's cousin, I've literally known him since we were in nappies." Cho hadn't realized it, but Lavender sitting down was exactly what she'd been looking for.

She grimaced. "I'd like to say it won't happen again, but I know it will. He'll just have to get used to it." Taking night shifts was just one of the things that came with her job and though long periods of it were rare for her, it was something she had to do regardless of how much Cormac pouted.

Laughing, Lavender grinned. "Everything's great. I'd say I'm about half living at his place these days. Which is the lovely apart from the mornings when I'm at my place and can't find the clothes I want to wear. But I can live with that." She chuckled, sipping her drink. "We're getting close to our first anniversary, actually."
