Delivery: Birthday Gifts
Who: Dean and Seamus
What: Birthday presents and breakfast
Where: Seamus' flat
When: Friday 26th June
Rating: SFW

All the presents are wrapped in home-made shamrock-print paper and have individual notes as well as a birthday card sitting on the top of them.

The photo in the frame is one of them taken on Victis Honor Day, both with their faces painted (Dean is a phoenix, Seamus has his face contour-mapped in green and purple). They're mostly smiling, occasionally one of them will poke the other in the side which will make them laugh. Once in a while Dean's face will soften and he'll glance at Seamus with something that hints at more than friendship, but only when photo-Seamus is looking away. The note stuck to the outside says 'We're managing good times even on dark days. Let's remember the feeling.'

The note stuck to this one says 'Something to keep your hands busy, and potentially annoy everyone!'

The note says If you need a board to stick them to let me know.

Thanks to his recent and rather spectacular drop in libido Dean had considered staying over the night before Seamus' birthday. He knew he was deeply unlikely to wake up in an unfortunate state. But Seamus was a late riser, and this way was more of a surprise. Well, small surprise. They almost always did something for the each other's birthday.

So Dean had been to work for an hour (with an alarm set) and then gone home and collected ingredients before apparating to Seamus' house, arriving as far from his bedroom as he could. He went to the kitchen and set about making up the potato farls he knew Seamus loved. Once they were ready for the pan he set bacon going, at the right moment he set put the farls in a frying pan to cook, adding eggs frying in the bacon pan as he flipped the farls. He was humming quietly to himself, tea was brewing, although whether that ended up being for Seamus or just for him remained to be seen.

When he judged it was all ready he split it between two plates (he'd had only a banana that morning on purpose) and went to wake Seamus. Well, assuming the smell of bacon hadn't already woken him.

"Well, there's your birthday present sorted," Seamus declared. "A pygmy puff or closest Luna-approved equivalent." He was joking. Mostly. It was entirely possible, though, that Dean would end up getting something pygmy puff related, if not an actual live creature. Maybe a cuddly toy version, or just a picture of one.

He managed to tear his gaze from the picture just in time to catch Dean's ridiculous smile and he snorted. They were both as bad as one another, but Dean was perhaps slightly better at putting these things into words. Seamus too-often tried to duck under or to the side of the big feelings - though that didn't mean he didn't feel them. "You just want more ways to show off," he accused. "Careful I don't decide to take you down a peg or two. I still have some of those sketches you did for me in History of Magic." At the time, Seamus had thought they were brilliant - but even he could see they didn't compare to the quality of Dean's current work.

Seamus happily pulled the last present towards him, unwrapping it more slowly - savouring this last of the presents. At least, that was the plan. Until he spotted the word 'dong' and his curiosity got the better of him. He shook the wrapping paper off and started laughing almost immediately. "Just the thing I never knew I needed," he said, balling the wrapping paper up with one hand and tossing it towards Dean's head. "A box of words that celebrate the manly member," he read off the box, his eyes crinkling up as he stifled giggles. "I need to see these." He found the flap and then upturned the box over the bed, expecting a jumble of tiny word magnets - and only slightly disappointed to find they came in perforated sheets that he would have to separate himself.

Dean snorted, fairly certain that Seamus wasn't actually serious. "I get my need to stroke cute fluffy things quota from visiting The Bestiary and playing with your hair," he teased. Not that pygmy puffs weren't incredibly cute, but an owl would honestly be a lot more useful. Not that it was practical to own one living where he did.

"Hey!" he protested. "See if you get good gifts again!" Thankfully though his smile had twitched into something far more amused, even if he felt a little warm in the cheeks. "And those doodles were an important part of my artistic development," he said with as haughtiness as he could manage. And considering he was an East London boy at heart it was somewhat lacking. He stuck his tongue out at Seamus and chuckled. Seamus wasn't wrong really, he'd rather not those sketches didn't see the light of day, or at least the light of the press.

Sadly Dean's reflexes weren't quite quick enough to avoid paper thrown from such a short distance and the ball of paper smacked him in the nose. He couldn't help but grin like a idiot though. "Well, I know you're very fond of the topic," he said, doing something that would probably be best described as giggling. "Oh, bugger," he said when the magnets appeared in sheets rather than individual words. "The ones in the shop were already separated."

"Ahh," Seamus said, obviously satisfied. "You called me cute. Someone should, on me birthday." His grin was a little soft around the edges. He loved having his hair played with and considered himself bloody lucky that he had a friendship that was affectionate enough to include that. Some people might think it was weird, but he'd always just seen it as them - and it filled a hole that would otherwise be a bigger problem than it already was.

Seamus snorted, carefully levitating the picture over to his bedside table. He'd decide where its permanent place should be later, but for now it could stay there. "Mhmm," he agreed with a hum. "Those ones of Snape sticking his head in a cauldron were vital, I'm sure. Oh oh - or Malfoy falling off his broom." Seamus had got in trouble for laughing... frequently. Especially in potions. The drawings had a completely mystifying (and not at all Dean-related) habit of turning up folded between the pages of Magical Drafts and Potions - which had the dual result of sending Seamus into fits of hysterics and also forcing him to dive beneath the desk and retrieve the offending piece before Snape could see it.

"Extremely fond," Seamus emphasised, waggling his eyebrows and making a suggestive (and unsurprising) hand motion to accompany it. He laughed at Dean's dismay, spreading the two sheets out on the bed so he could study them. "Better this way. I'd only have lost them in the sheets." There was a slight pause before Seamus suddenly burst into laughter. "Not good -" He said, trying to catch his breath. "Losing willies in the sheets. Not good at all. Should keep an eye on them."

"I also called you fluffy and equated you with a homeless kitten," he pointed out. He was still smiling though. Complimenting Seamus was something that sort of spilled out of his mouth anyway, always had, it wasn't new, but since his realisation of feelings he had been trying not to go overboard.

Dean sniffed and stuck his nose up in an imitation of haughtiness. "They were important in helping me practice the proportions of the human body," he said. "Also funny," he added and smirked. It had always been fun to see just how hard he could make Seamus laugh, or just how fast he'd had to scramble after an errant doodle. Dean always maintained it was his own fault for being so careless.

The expected gesture just made Dean roll his eyes. He'd sort of meant other peoples' but then again the same gesture worked then too. He wasn't quite sure of the reasons for the second burst of laughter but when Seamus explained he snorted and started to laugh himself. "Really bad plan that. Don't want stray schlongs everywhere," he said, spotting the word on one of the sheets. "So sad when they don't go to decent use."

Seamus shrugged, failing to see the problem. "I am fluffy," he said, reaching up to ruffle his own hair. "And homeless kittens are adorable. So, therefore, I'm also adorable." He grinned as if very pleased by his own faultless logic. "And if that makes people want to feed me and take care of me, I'm hardly likely to complain, am I?"

Dean's smirk was as wicked as ever, and Seamus had to agree. "Very important," he said, though he was thinking more about the forging of their friendship than the practice of Dean's art. While he was sure they would always have been friends, it was good that they'd started from a place of both being willing to get into a little trouble if it meant having fun. If Dean had been more a Hermione or a Neville... Seamus loved them both, of course, but he wouldn't swap either one for Dean.

Seamus laughed, delighted with his present and his best mate. "Tragic," he agreed between expressions of mirth. Then he contorted his face in an attempt to frown down at the magnets - which didn't really work when he was still laughing. "These are a little... small for my tastes, though. Just saying."

Dean snorted, unable to effectively argue with Seamus logic and not be outright mean. "No being mean to the birthday boy, no being mean to the birthday boy," he said just loud enough for Seamus to hear. A smirk was hovering around his mouth.

The general delight Seamus was showing at the slightly ridiculous present was a relief. Not that he'd thought that Seamus would dislike the present, but he might have taken it oddly, or not in the spirit it was intended. "Well, maybe they'll grow as you play with them," he said, trying valiantly to look innocent. "I hear that's a thing that happens," he said, basically bursting into laughter as he finished the sentence.

"You are so cruel," Seamus complained, grinning broadly. "It's a wonder I love you at all, really. Ridiculous devotion - worthy of a Hufflepuff." He couldn't even be bothered to act as if he believed what he was saying, not when it was his birthday and Dean had come up trumps with both breakfast and presents. Not that either one was surprising - he couldn't remember a time he hadn't enjoyed a present from Dean.

Seamus snorted explosively - and desperately tried to think up an innuendo as good. "I've never had so many at once," he said, after a moment of concentrated thought. "So your birthday present to me is basically a miniature orgy?" It wasn't a particularly masterful example, but in the mood he was in Seamus found it hilarious, and found his sides starting to ache pleasantly from both laughing and trying not to laugh.

Dean grinned and nudged him. "You wound me so, I am an excellent friend," he said, ridiculously pleased. Even if Seamus didn't mean that he loved him in a romantic way it still felt good to hear it, if a tiny bit painful.

He could tell that Seamus was trying to think of something good as a comeback, but he wasn't quite expecting suggestions of an orgy and the sip of tea he'd just taken was rather swiftly swallowed as he spluttered into laughter. "Would you have preferred a full-size one?" he asked when he managed to calm down. He hadn't really thought that one through and was hoping Seamus wouldn't get gloomy about his scar. He was also kind of hoping he'd say no for purely selfish reasons.

He took a deep breath and sighed. "I guess we should get out of bed," he said. "I mean, feel free to laze all day, it's your birthday, but I feel like I should get up," he said. Plus he thought he should probably do the washing up and not leave it for Seamus. Well, spell it to do itself.

Seamus nudged back, then gave Dean a cheerful thumbs up. "The best in the world," he agreed, surveying his open presents and the discarded wrapping paper. "And that's your emotional moment for the day." He stuck his tongue out and wriggled away from Dean to sweep the magnets back into their box for now.

Shaking his head, he wrinkled his nose in distaste. "No, thank you. I think one other person is plenty for me." He'd never really thought about it - but apparently today his brain was taking a leaf out of Dean's book, because all he could imagine was a group of his friends sprawled in varying states of undress. As much as he loved his friends - no. "Maybe one person and one toy - that's three dicks in the bed, I'm pretty sure that's my limit."

Far from continuing to laze, Seamus bounded to his feet. "Are you off to work?" he asked. "Or something?" If so, he'd have to find something to occupy his time. Something fun, since it was his birthday and all.

He snorted. He knew better than to think there was zero chance of more mushy moments. They were surprisingly good at them. Although actual mush was spread out a little more in between the general friendship sentiments.

Of course Dean being Dean his mind also leapt to providing him an image of himself, Seamus and a toy in rather spectacular fashion. It gave him pause for a second and he shuddered through a head shake to clear his flash of the full colour image of the two of them sprawled out on Seamus' bed. "Point." His voice was a little croaky and faint. The image didn't do a huge amount for him at the moment, but it was still not the ideal time to have the thought.

"I've already been in for an hour," he said and shrugged. He was having a horrible time trying to work through his problems with his current project and had been alternating between frustrated time moving through various permutations and time spent painting the series of pieces he'd got in mind based on their mutual visit to Grenada in January. "Nothing that can't leave," he said, waving a careless hand. He could hang around for a while.

"So industrious," Seamus marvelled. "Maybe you're the one who should have been in Hufflepuff after all." He grinned when Dean said he didn't need to hare off back to work straight away, though. "Want to come to Greencastle with me?" he asked. "Mam'll probably have cake."

He moved about the room collecting proper clothes to wear - t-shirt, clean jeans, socks. "I'll just have a shower and we can go, yeah?" He didn't think Dean would mind waiting - Seamus could shower fast, when he wanted to.

"Oh shut it you. You'd never have made it without me!" he teased. He knew Seamus was well aware the Hat had had thoughts about making him a badger. He shrugged, not really fussed about going back to work when nothing had been coming together. "Yeah, sure, why not. It's not like I'm making much progress on anything at work right now," he said and pulled a face. It was eternally frustrating, no matter how he distracted himself with other pieces. It would come together eventually, he was determined about that much.

"Yeah, sure," he said, pushing himself up out of bed too. "I'll go was up or something," he added, heading out so Seamus could go wash and change. It'd be all fine as long as Mrs. F didn't work out the change to his feelings. She could be perceptive, but then again it wasn't like that much had changed beyond his own awareness. Oh well, he'd have to face that gauntlet at some point, may as well make it a day when she was distracted showering Seamus with birthday wishes.

Seamus hummed an acknowledgement. "Do you ever think about what it'd've been like?" he asked. He'd done so recently, but he couldn't remember what had started him down that track. "I mean... Neville is great, but I can't see us being best mates. So unless Ron, Harry and I all hung out together, I'd've had to find friends somewhere else." He tipped his head to the side. "Or maybe we'd've met in Herbology and been friends anyway. That sounds appropriately pre-destined and awesome."

He'd followed Dean out as he was speaking, but by the time he'd finished that train of thought he was at the bathroom door. "Alright, I'll be out in a few minutes."

"What, if I'd wound up in Hufflepuff? Not in... a while," he said. He knew he'd considered it before but he couldn't recall when. Of course there was also the possibility Seamus might have gone to Ravenclaw. "Yeah, I like the idea we'd have become friends anyway. And you'd already met Susan on the train so it was pretty likely," he said. He didn't want to think of a Hogwarts without Seamus. It was bad enough that Seamus had had to deal with a year without him. Not what to think about on this day in particular. "Our friendship is clearly pre-destined and awesome," he agreed with a definite little nod.

"Right you are," he said, wandering over to the kitchen to wash up, humming idly over the clinks that started as he waved his wand.
