RP: de-stress lunch
Who: Marcus and Blaise
What: Lunch
Where: Finnigan's
When: Monday, June 22, early afternoon
Rating: SFW, most likely

Dealing with his mother was exhausting. Marcus had been aware of this fact for years, and he'd thought that moving her into St. Mungo's would have made it a little easier. And while yes, it was infinitely better than trying to handle her on his own, Phillipa was still as difficult as she had been before he'd removed her from the family home.

Today had been one of the days when she had been angry and obnoxious, cursing at the medical staff and Marcus alike, derogatory words peppering her speech. Those were always the worst, especially when she also thought Marcus was his long-dead father, blaming him for everything that had ever gone 'wrong'. He'd spent a few hours trying - and failing - to once again convince her that Patrick was gone, which hadn't gone over well at all.

By the time he left the hospital, Marcus had a headache that was bordering on excruciating, and hungrier than a dragon. Rather than heading home to try and fix something for himself, he made his way towards the pub, which would at least mean he could eat without having to worry about preparing anything for himself. He found a table in the corner of the common room, settling down and looking at the menu but not really comprehending any of the words.

Blaise had just finished his lunch and was on his way back to the office when he turned just in time to see Marcus settle in. Knowing he could adapt his schedule by working a little later, he changed his direction and head to where his friend had just settled in.

"Long morning?" he asked approaching from a direction that had him in Marcus' line of view. It wasn't every day that Blaise ran into a familiar face when he went out for lunch and he knew that Marcus had a lot of his plate as of late. Therefore, he was fairly secure in the assumption he had made about the state of the day.

Marcus was more grateful than he'd admit to that Blaise hadn't accidentally snuck up on him. His paranoia and jitteriness were at an all time low since the war, but those things did tend to rear their heads when he was particularly stressed, and he didn't want to know what he might have done if his friend had taken him by surprise.

"That's one way of putting it," he responded with a small nod of his head, trying not to make the ache in his temples any worse. Dealing with Phillipa had never been one of his favorite things, and it seemed as though she was getting worse every time he saw her these days. "How've you been?" he asked, because anything was better than reliving the conversations he'd just been subjected to for the hundredth time.

Blaise made note of the shortness of Marcus' reply. That was their way was it not? It was an unspoken understanding in their circles that there were things that felt like hell but you didn't necessarily talk about them. Knowing and discussing were two different things and not something that any of them ever actively acknowledged.

"Overworked and underpaid," Blaise opted for quick shorthand humor as he glanced over at the clock. "In fact, I've only got about fifteen minutes before I have to head back to the office and get some decent progress made on this report they have me working on."

One of the leftovers of a traditional Pureblood upbringing was the fact that pesky things like feelings weren't something discussed, especially not in such a public setting. Marcus appreciated Blaise's understanding, the acknowledgement that sometimes there were unpleasant things, but that didn't mean those things were going to be talked about.

Letting out a huff that might have been amusement at the humor, Marcus answered, "Seems you're lucky to be able to get out of the office at all then. I suppose that means you have no trouble keeping busy then?"

Even if Blaise had wanted to pry further this was definitely not the place. Discussions that were to be held were done in the privacy of a home with limited guests. So limited in fact that other than things that were basic knowledge no one really knew too much about each other unless they were privileged enough to have garnered that trust.

"It will be better once they hire an assistant so I don't have to deal with the filing and basic record keeping on top of the legalities I am now dealing with." Blaise definitely needed to push for some interviews on the position soon.

"Best of luck with it," Marcus offered sincerely, since it seemed Blaise was in need of the help. "And in the meantime, if you need anything simple, I can get Rakey or one of the other elves to help you out for a while." It was about the only way he could offer assistance in anyway, but the sentiment was still there, as a testament to their friendship over the years.

"I'll keep that in mind," he nodded knowing that bringing an elf into the fold that wasn't already employed by the Ministry was the furthest thing from a good idea he'd had in awhile. There had been a quiet buzz lately about the place of elves and their responsibilities within the Ministry. He wasn't sure what it was all about and he hoped not to get pulled into any of it.

Glancing up he took note of the time. "I should probably head back to the office. Let's get together for drinks soon."

Marcus nodded, since nothing more needed to be said in regards to the offer. Either Blaise would take him up on it, or he wouldn't, but that choice lay with the younger man. "My schedule is probably more open than yours at this point. Just let me know when you're free," he said, not wanting to keep Blaise from his duties. "Have a good rest of the day."
