PRIDE @ WINGBEAT
This year's London Pride Parade is two weeks today, so in that light I'm here to let you know what Wingbeat has planned.

Pride 2005 @ Wingbeat

Thursday, Friday and Saturday will ALL be LGBTQ+ nights
That's right 2nd - 4th July will be a whole little Pride festival.

There will be special drinks, excellent decorations and wonderful people.
Special feature of music from LGBTQ+ artists, or with LGBTQ+ themes

Some prizes for excellent outfits/costuming each night.

Come and Join Us!

10pm - 3am

Yes, allies are welcome, but as usual if someone you're not interested in due to their gender flirts with you a simple No is all it takes. Homophobia, transphobia etc. will NOT be tolerated. Nor will sexual harassment.

We do not JUST cater to the L and G portions of the queer community. BTIQA are both welcome and encouraged.

Oh and before I forget. Pride is a Muggle thing where the LGBTQ+ community (anyone who isn't heterosexual/straight or doesn't identify with the gender they were assigned at birth) come together to celebrate their existence and also get political about rights and protections which they want to exist.

L = Lesbian: women attracted to women
G = Gay: men attracted to men (can also be used by lesbians)
B = Bisexual: people attracted to others of more than one gender (definitions vary a bit but that's a good start)
T = Trans (either Transexual or Transgender, the latter is I think the preferred by most): People who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth
I = Intersex: people who have any one of a number of intersex conditions which may well make their genitalia ambiguous in some way
Q = Queer or Questioning: Queer is a bit of an overarching term for anyone whose sexuality is not straight and/or gender is not as assigned at birth. This includes people whose gender falls outside the male/female binary who may use many terms. Questioning is for people who are questioning their gender or sexual identity in some way.
A = Asexual: people who do not feel sexual attraction, or with some modifiers they might experience it in only certain circumstances.

Ally = A person who does not fall on the LGBTQ+ spectrum but is supportive of them and their aims etc.

ooc: if anyone wants to make this into some kind of poster that'd be awesome.

What do all the letters in the acronyms stand for? And what does "allies" mean in this context? I can't be the only one who has no clue, right? I mean, we just don't talk about these things. They just kind of are what they are but don't and never have a lot of discussion time in my house.

Oh, shit, I knew I'd forget something. Give me a minute and I'll add it to the main entry.

Is the getting political thing expected, or does it just happen? I mean, is that going to be part of the Wingbeat celebration, or will it just be a thing that may happen of its own accord depending on the people but isn't a mandatory part of the festivities?

The most political Wingbeat is likely to get is stray signs from the march on the walls if anyone brings them, or maybe a petition to sign if someone tells me about a relevant one before then. Most of the politics is wrapped up in the march bit or possibly some Muggles have other stuff organised. Wingbeat is more the celebration and party bit. Hence a fuckton of booze available.

I was just trying to give a one sentence history/explanation kind of thing for those who don't know. Some people asked the last time I wrote about Pride.

Excellent. I'm glad someone else is excited for it.

You letting everyone else mind the shop?

Sadly cocktails in grey, black and purple look kind of shit, but we've got rainbow ones if you're wanting to be drinking the theme!

Meatball says he can handle things, but I told him if he wants a night off he can just put a sign on the door saying we're closed for Pride.

I would love a rainbow drink, but only if you have one with me!

Clearly you are the cool boss.

I can probably be persuaded one night. Daren't have more than one, I need steady hands to make them!

I'll definitely be there as an ally, if there's anything you need help with before you'll say the word, right?

Dearest brother, by the way, have I told you how proud I am of you?

I think the staff probably have it covered, but I'll let you know if I need help.

Probably at some point, but it's nice anyway. You too, sis, you too.
