Entry tags:character: lucy spinks, character: marietta edgecombe

Who: Marietta and OPEN to multiple peeps and subthreads if you'd like
What: Girl's Night
Where: Finnigan's
When: Saturday Night
Rating: SFW will change if necessary

The other night had been one of the creepiest she'd ever had on her job. She'd been asked to do some unorthodox things in the past but this one had crossed the line as far as she was concerned. She hated that the man was going to be black listed because he'd been completely harmless. She couldn't help but wonder if one of the other girl's would have been fine with the request.

Therefore, tonight she wanted to completely forget work. A night where she could just hang out with friends and forget that anything else existed rather than the here and now was just what she needed. She started by ordering a some food and her favorite drink then heading to a table. There was no guarantee that anyone from her usual crowd would show up tonight, but at least she wasn't home alone.

Lucy's experience at the racing track had reminded her that there was more to life than work and exercise - and more to her than just her mind and her organisational skills. Her memories of the wizarding world were so tainted with feelings of inadequacy that she had forgotten she'd done quite a lot of growing up since her school days. A girl's night seemed the perfect excuse to show that off.

The black dress and ankle boots she wore might be a little too dressy for Finnigan's, but she was hoping she could convince a few people to head to Wingbeat later. Even if she couldn't, she felt good - confident and sexy in a way she hadn't in recent months. So she sipped her drink and then turned to the person on her immediate left. "How much do you know about Quidditch?" Since flying was on her mind anyway, what better time to find out more about the wizarding world's favourite sport?

Marietta was beginning to wonder if she was the only one that was going to arrive her endeavor. The only affirmative response she'd gotten was from a younger woman who she did not really know. Maybe this individual would arrive, but how would she know who they were if they did?

She was already on her second drink, which was never a good thing when drinking alone, when a young woman sat beside her and inquired about her Quidditch knowledge. "Not much really, I know a few people that play but I've never really followed the matches."

Lucy gave a short hum of disappointment. She'd been thinking of asking for a brief rundown of the rules, but she had no desire to trap someone in a conversation they weren't interested in. There was bound to be someone later who'd actually enjoy inducting her into the joys of Quidditch. "Never mind, then," she said brightly. "Though if any of these people who've played show up, feel free to point them my way."

She studied the woman she'd sat next to. She'd definitely seen her before, at some of the weekend activities at Finnigan's - Lucy even had an idea she'd been pointed out as the organiser of one or two of them. "I'm Lucy," she said. "And I know I've seen you around, but I'm afraid I've forgotten your name, if I ever knew it."

"I most definitely will," she took another swig of her drink and looked around to see if there was anyone she could direct the other woman toward.

She listed to her introduction and recognition immediately clicked in her brain. "Yes, Lucy. You've participated in the game days. I've not had an opportunity to do one in the past month or so. I really need to get on the ball and get something set up with Seamus again. Marietta," she offered a hand quite glad to have someone she could make a direct connection to. "Though if you have any ideas for future competitions I'd love to hear them."

Lucy gave Marietta's hand a friendly squeeze. "Oh, so you do organise them?" Lucy asked, glad her recollection had proved correct. "I thought so, but I wasn't sure. They've been brilliant!" Her praise and enthusiasm were totally genuine - she'd had a blast at every event she'd attended, even if she'd been nervous about the broomstick rodeo. "I've even taken up flying because of the rodeo, and I love it. That's why I was asking about quidditch."

She sipped her drink, thinking about competitions they might host. Unsurprisingly, her mind went to the muggle activities she'd enjoyed as a child. "It's a shame there's not a bigger outside area," she said. "We could've had a sports day. You know, the not-serious stuff... sack race, egg and spoon race, three-legged race."

"I'm glad you've enjoyed them and found a new hobby," Marietta replied lowering her hand once their grasps released. "I don't know how much organizing I've done. Dominic has done a fabulous job making my ideas reality." It was true, she never could have done any of the events without his assistance.

She sipped on her drink and pondered the ideas Lisa was sharing. She didn't know why you would want to make a sack race but a locomotive spell on a plate setting to get them to race could be interesting. Still on had her puzzled. "Three legged race, that would require a bit of spell work that could be dangerous if not handled properly."

After a moment's concentration, Lucy nodded. "Dominic is the dark-haired guy who's usually around?" she asked, seeking more confirmation than anyone. She was still getting to know how things worked in Monument Alley, and didn't know everyone yet. "The magic that goes into all this stuff is really impressive." There was the slightest wistful note in her voice, but she quickly moved on. "It seems like you've been the one bringing people together, though. I'd never have known about the events if it weren't for you."

It was only because they were talking about spells anyway that Lucy was able to follow the apparent leap of logic Marietta made, and quickly shook her head. "No. Wow, I guess you guys don't have that stuff." There were so many differences it still made her head spin, even after working in the wizarding world for a few months. "No, this is all stuff I did in my muggle primary school - no magic involved. For the three-legged race, you just tie something round -" She paused, realising she didn't even know whether Marietta was picture one person or two or what. "So, you get two people to stand next to each other, and you tie this leg -" she gestured to her own leg nearest Marietta "to this one." She gestured again, this time to Marietta's leg. "Then they have to run. Everyone usually falls over, and the team that started out slowest will usually win, if they're careful. It's good fun." Lucy offered a smile. "Should I explain an egg and spoon race, too?"

"That would be Dominic," she nodded. "He's the best. My ideas aren't always put together that well in the beginning but he talks me through them and pretty soon we have something fabulous on our hands." She was grateful for all Dominic's assistance, he'd become somewhat of a friend. Or at least as much of a friend as she would allow in.

Her face sort of screwed up in a mixture of confusion and disgust at being tied to someone in public. It didn't sound particularly fun and she wondered if others felt the same way. "It sounds," she paused and tired to find the best word, "interesting." Though she had to admit that such a thing would likely appeal to the masses. "Maybe you can help me come up with a list of these races and go with me to present another event to Seamus."

"Two heads are better than one," Lucy agreed cheerfully. "Talking something through with anyone is helpful, in my experience - but obviously even more so if he's then able to implement it all into reality." She finished off her drink with a smile, pushing the empty glass away from her across the table.

She didn't miss the expression on Marietta's face, and though it put her a little on the defensive she tried to push that uncomfortable feeling away. Marietta hadn't said anything disparaging about muggles, or the sports day activities, and she seemed willing to go forward with the idea. Given that, her initial feelings weren't necessarily the right thing to judge her on. "I'd be happy to," she said, glancing at the bar. "Do you feel like getting out of here and heading to Wingbeat?" she asked. "I feel like I'm wasting this dress otherwise."
