Lavender beamed widely, her smile lighting up her face almost as much as the candle that was stuck in the Black Forest cupcake she was holding. The flame flicked blue-purple under her breath and she blew it out with a sharp exhale. She closed her eyes for a moment, dwelling on a happy thought, a wish.
When she looked at Cormac again, she was still smiling. Leaning over, Lavender kissed him soundly. "Thank you for a wonderful birthday," she said, lips still brushing his as she resisted pulling back too far. Cormac had cooked dinner, there had been presents, and now there was cake. Not to mention, of course, plenty of kisses. All in all, a fantastic way to end the day.
Lavender kissed him again for good measure before settling back on the couch and plucking the candle out of the cake. She broke the cake in half, offering him a piece. "Here." She grinned. "Something sweet for my sweet."
