Greg was still wearing his new hearing aid - or hearing dampener, he wasn't thinking too much about what it was called. It wasn't as necessary outside a party situation, but he'd found it comforting to have the background noise of the world fade back to the level he'd grown up with - though people's voices came through with the clarity of his full hearing. Some might say it made him less likely to be aware of the little noises that signified danger, but the comfort of not being on edge 24/7 due to overstimulation was more than worth it.
The days since his birthday hadn't been noteworthy, really. He'd opened his presents, enjoyed his weekend off work and then returned to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes in a slightly better temper than he had been before. He'd spotted, and avoided, at least one Weasley at his party, but whoever it was hadn't tried to play tricks on anyone or have a fight. It was only when Potter's owl came through on Wednesday that Greg had remembered to be concerned over Potter's behaviour at the party. He'd called him 'hot' and 'cute' and said something about orgies. Greg had buried the confusion in the same part of his brain he usually put things he didn't understand (like Astronomy) and left it there. Now, he didn't know whether to reply to the owl, or what to say, and was strangely hesitant to admit to Theo who the problem was.
Still, it seemed inevitable now, since Theo was about to arrive. Greg answered the door when he knocked and the paused, surprised. Theo had said he would look into getting Greg a House Elf, but that too, had been buried in the recess of Greg's mind for a few days. "Hello," he said after a moment. "Come in." He stood aside, eyes on the silent elf.
