He painted quickly but carefully, blending the edges of the two colours and working outwards until he switched to a third, darker colour, doing the same again and finalising his decision about the edge of the shape, deciding against the scallops and turning the lower bottom corner into a focal point instead, shaping somewhat like a classic teardrop, or perhaps running paint.
"I know what too much time alone with your thoughts can do, especially this time of year," he said, pausing and frowning at his work for a second before moving on, satisfied. "And actually I'm not going near your mouth so talking is fine," he said. He sorted quickly and grabbed a grey to paint shadows and silver to outline the mask and start on some patterns.
"I've not really been before either. Working through it will probably help me anyway," he offered.
