Who: Marietta and Finbar
What: Marietta has something she wants to talk to Finbar about
Where: The Hog’s Head, Hogsmeade
When: Thursday, April 30, 2005
Rating: SFW

Finbar was early arriving at the old inn in Hogsmeade. It had been ages since he had been in there. He knew that he had been there since he had been in school, probably since the war too, but when that was, he just couldn’t remember. Come to think of it, there were plenty of visits to the Hog’s Head that he didn’t remember, so that wasn’t too surprising.

At first he figured he’d find a seat by one of the tables off to the side in order to ensure the privacy that Marietta Edgecombe had asked for. However, the thought that he didn’t know who he was meeting with – other than he knew her to be an old friend of Cho’s – had him take a seat by the bar. That way she could easily spot him – obviously she knew who he was – without having to look too much around. According to her he would recognize her when he saw her, but though he had some periods in his past with some pretty hazy memories, he was more than reasonably certain that he had never met a Marietta Edgecombe before. Her age was one factor, but the name didn’t even sound familiar, other than from what Cho had told him.

With a small gesture he ordered himself a glass of Firewhiskey and waited for Marietta to show up.

Marietta arrived dressed exactly as she had for the book signing she met Finbar at. She was fairly certain he would remember her not because they'd had a good time as defined by the job, but they'd spent a decent amount of time simply talking to one another. She still didn't know why she had been hired for the evening and what the person who had requested an escort for him that night had in mind. She was simply grateful that she'd found him to be a gentleman and felt certain he was treating Cho with the utmost respect.

"Finbar is it?" she stated as she approached and waited to see if recognized her.

Finbar drank from his tumbler as he chuckled at a comment from the bartender, when a familiar voice that he couldn’t immediately place drew his attention. Turning to greet the witch in question he found himself very easily recognizing her. “Rachel!” he smiled and leaned in to greet her with a polite kiss to the cheek. He still hadn’t figured out exactly why it was that she had been at his niece’s book release, but the beautiful witch had been a brilliant conversationalist whose company he had enjoyed.

“You look great,” he complimented her, not finding it odd that she was wearing the exact same outfit; not everybody were privileged enough to be in a position where they could acquire new clothes every time they went out. There was one thing, though; “What’s a nice witch like you doing in a place like this?” He glanced over her shoulder. So far there had been no Marietta, and it didn’t look like anybody was about to enter the place, so he had time to catch up with Rachel.

Marietta had stood outside the pub for longer than she'd anticipated trying to determine whether this was a good idea or not. She knew that it had to be done or she'd have to spend extensive amounts of energy coming up with reasons not to be around Cho whenever Finbar may be present. Afterall, there was only so long she could last being busy.

"I'm meeting someone," she answered his question as she turned slightly to follow his gaze. "Though I'm not sure he'll recognize me when I arrive. Mind if I sit with you until I properly make his acquaintance?" She was glad Finbar had responded and seemed interested in speaking with her further. It meant that she hadn't completely alienated him upon their last meeting.

“Ah,” Finbar gave a nod of understanding as he pulled out the chair next to him. “By all means, do,” he smiled at her, though paused for a moment; Rachel was meeting someone she wasn’t sure would recognize her, just like he was… Mentally he shook his head. It had to be a coincidence, because although rare, coincidences did happen, even at The Hog’s Head. “May I buy you a drink while you wait?” he

“Your middle name isn’t by any chance Marietta, is it?” he joked with a smirk, amused at what he had chalked to be a coincidence, as he flagged down the bartender so Rachel could order whatever she wanted.

Marietta smoothed down her dress before taking the seat that was offered to her. She was glad to have the cover of the table so she could fidget with her hands if her nerves became to much. Then before she could answer about the drink Finbar hit the proverbial nail on the head, or at least close enough to count.

"Not quite," she said turning to see how close their server was but noting that Finbar had received the signal that they'd be over in a moment. Focusing once again on her company for the time she continued. "It's actually my first name. Rachel is my alias when I'm working."

Finbar paused for a long moment, turning Rachel’s – or apparently Marietta’s – words over and over. Rachel was an alias, which, sure, people had aliases, and he had even used one a couple of times when he wanted to ensure his privacy. But his understanding had been that she had been working for an event planner or something to that extent… “Well, Marietta,” he said with a small chuckle, “it’s a pleasure to meet you, too. I mean, you are the Marietta who’s friends with Cho and who asked me to meet to discuss a matter of a rather sensitive nature, right?”

Drawing in a deep breath, he cleared his throat. “And I’m guessing you don’t actually work for an event manager if you need an alias for it.”

Marietta watched as he processed what she'd said. "I do work for an event planner of sorts," she decided to broach the subject of her employment first. "I assist with the enhancement of company at a variety of different events. It's not a full time gig, something I do for myself, a hobby of sorts." She wasn't going to admit to a relative stranger that she desperately needed the opportunities to reinvent herself. Those reasons were personal, so personal in fact that she hadn't even chosen to share it with her best friends.

"Cho doesn't know," she stated next, "please don't tell her." She wanted to add because she doubted Cho would understand. Not because she felt that she would be judged, simply she knew that Cho would want to understand the why and she knew her friend saw her in a brighter light than she saw herself.
