Happy Birthday To Greg
Who: Greg & open to all invitees (please tag your characters!)
What: A party!
Where: 6 Griffin Court, Appleby, Cumbria
When: Thursday 30th April, 7.30pm onwards
Rating: SFW

Catherine Goyle had gone against all her usual instincts to plan tonight's party. This was no stuffy pureblood affair with dance cards and champagne and was instead a genuinely casual evening - or at least, as casual as someone who was raised in that environment knew how to be. 6 Griffin Court wasn't a large enough house to be intimidating or ostentatious, and the front door currently stood open to encourage guests to come straight in from the front garden. Save for the lack of satellite dishes or electric lighting it actually looked much like a well-to-do muggle street, which it very much was not. Just inside the door was a hall with coat stands, and a toilet off to the left. Through the hall was a spacious living room where Catherine Goyle's old record player was enchanted to switch between her collection of wizarding records.

Lisken and Sisken had made all the food and drinks for the party, but were hurried out of sight once the first guests arrived - Catherine didn't want to start a debate on house-elf rights. They had left plates of 'party food' and bottles of decent wine, whiskey and beer in the kitchen for guests to serve themselves.

Since the night was clear, Catherine was urging people to move out into the back garden - which, though tidy, was more functional than decorative. She herself flitted through the party acting as the perfect hostess. She greeted the sons and daughters of her own pureblood friends just as warmly as she greeted the business owners of Monument Alley, despite their generally lesser blood status. She tried not to involve herself in any one conversation too long, conscious that this was supposed to be an event in celebration of Gregory.

Blaise too had taken a gander at Greg's birthday list. He was slightly shocked when he saw a set of gobstones but decided to take advantage of his connections to get a fairly decent set. Purchasing a tournament grade set he sent the box off to the winning team from the most recent tournament and had them autograph the inside lid of the storage box. After adding his gift to the table Blaise made the necessary rounds before grabbing a glass of alcohol and making his way outside where he could have some space and silent reflection before heading back to join the party.

"It is now," he said looking up to see who was joining him. A quick glance let him relax as he noticed it was someone from his own circle, even if she was a few years younger. "No one interesting enough inside to keep you occupied?" As he said it Blaise recalled the time when he would have done anything to keep a woman entertained enough that she wouldn't want to leave his side. He needed to once again find that individual and coax him to come out and play.

Astoria smiled her thanks as she sat down, crossing one leg over the other and smoothing out her robes with her free hand. Was it that there was no one interesting enough to keep her occupied? She took a sip of her wine as she thought about it. Truthfully, she didn't think that was it, but she shrugged noncommittally and said, "It was getting stuffy in there. And, if I'm being honest, some of the guests are..." She looked up as she turned over which word was best to use in this situation. "Some are a bit too interested in watching the guests to say the least, and it makes for a stuffy environment." Although she didn't mind people being interested in her, even if she didn't always know how to handle it, she didn't enjoy the type of interest some seemed to be showing to some of the other guests.

"What brought you out here?" she asked, looking over at Blaise with a smile. "No one interesting enough to keep your attention?"

Blaise fiddled with his now empty glass as Astoria settled in. He nodded at her assessment of the guests inside. He found the mixture of individuals to be rather interesting. Purebloods that would never have been invited prior to the war had suddenly found themselves included in proper society invitations so that some could present themselves as having made changes when in reality many still didn't desire to. Survival was the name of the game when it came to society these days.

"There are plenty of interesting individuals," he confirmed. "It's deciding which one I wish to focus on that is a bit overwhelming." It was partially true. There were many that he spoke to regularly that he didn't want to monopolize the time of as well as some, like Astoria, that he knew but hadn't really connected with.
