Happy Birthday To Greg
Who: Greg & open to all invitees (please tag your characters!)
What: A party!
Where: 6 Griffin Court, Appleby, Cumbria
When: Thursday 30th April, 7.30pm onwards
Rating: SFW

Catherine Goyle had gone against all her usual instincts to plan tonight's party. This was no stuffy pureblood affair with dance cards and champagne and was instead a genuinely casual evening - or at least, as casual as someone who was raised in that environment knew how to be. 6 Griffin Court wasn't a large enough house to be intimidating or ostentatious, and the front door currently stood open to encourage guests to come straight in from the front garden. Save for the lack of satellite dishes or electric lighting it actually looked much like a well-to-do muggle street, which it very much was not. Just inside the door was a hall with coat stands, and a toilet off to the left. Through the hall was a spacious living room where Catherine Goyle's old record player was enchanted to switch between her collection of wizarding records.

Lisken and Sisken had made all the food and drinks for the party, but were hurried out of sight once the first guests arrived - Catherine didn't want to start a debate on house-elf rights. They had left plates of 'party food' and bottles of decent wine, whiskey and beer in the kitchen for guests to serve themselves.

Since the night was clear, Catherine was urging people to move out into the back garden - which, though tidy, was more functional than decorative. She herself flitted through the party acting as the perfect hostess. She greeted the sons and daughters of her own pureblood friends just as warmly as she greeted the business owners of Monument Alley, despite their generally lesser blood status. She tried not to involve herself in any one conversation too long, conscious that this was supposed to be an event in celebration of Gregory.

Tristan and Open

Although he'd spent about a week working up his nerve and convincing himself everything would be alright if he attended a party he'd been invited to, anxiety had slammed into Tristan that morning like he was standing in front of the Whomping Willow and had just been hit by a branch. He'd then spent most of the day trying to keep calm, trying to distract himself, and trying not to worry. His therapist had given him a few tips earlier that week when he'd mentioned worrying about being anxious at this party like the last one he'd attended, and he employed them almost as soon as he'd arrived and hung his cloak in the front hall.

Tristan had focused on the small bag of sweets he'd bought for Greg Goyle until it had been taken from him and swept off into another room. Then he'd focused on his social niceties as he greeted Mrs Goyle, complimenting her on her home and how nice the living room looked. Doing that had allowed him to focus on how the living room was decorated and laid out. It wasn't his personal style, but he found comfort in focusing on it none the less. He also found comfort in the thought that he could spend an hour at the party and then excuse himself with the explanation that he couldn't get out of work, sadly, and had to leave early because of it.

As he felt his focus slipping when he couldn't find anything else in the living room to focus on, Tristan made his way to the kitchen. Food, he thought, would be a great distraction. And maybe a drink, though nothing alcoholic. While part of him thought it might soothe his nerves, another was uncertain that it'd do any good in the long run. Water, however, would be fine. But first, food. Food had the possibility of helping to settle his stomach and focus his mind on anything but the fact that he was at a part with people he knew as well as people he didn't.

The little sandwiches looked good and found their way onto Tristan's plate, as did a few other items that looked like they might taste good. He debated on going back into the living room, but the kitchen made him feel a little calm. He decided, then, to stay in the kitchen for the moment, moving to one side and leaning his back against the wall where he would have a good view of all the ways into and out of the kitchen. He did not want to be sneaked up on as he picked up one of the sandwiches, not even for such an innocuous thing as grabbing a snack or a glass of wine.

Bryony and Open

Bryony was only vaguely aware who Gregory Goyle was - and as far as she knew she had never spoken to him. Which made her invitation to his birthday somewhat confusing. Shauna, Allegra and Rowan had been invited as well, so it was probably a family thing. Her elder siblings had declined to attend, having better things to do with their evenings, apparently. Despite her limited social calendar, Bryony likely would have done the same except that she was intrigued by the idea of a 'casual' party with the pureblood society she was used to.

So she'd turned up, in her nicest dress robes, with a present that she allowed to be taken from her as soon as she arrived. She headed straight for the kitchen, thinking she could pick up a glass of wine she could sip at and then do a tour of the main party to see if anyone she recognised was in attendance. While she was there, though, she was distracted by a tray of little peach tarts. Not wanting to be seen eating it so soon after arriving, she glanced around the kitchen to make sure she was alone. She'd just taken a bit and had her mouth full when someone walked in on her.
