Journal: Food Fact-Finding?
Alright boys and girls and others,

I am undertaking to give a friend a crash course in International cuisine, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend their favourite ethnic restaurants and cafés around London? Although I suppose I am a wizard, so outside London could feasibly work? Just nothing in Manchester, please. I'm also fine with either magical or Muggle.

I'm totally willing to repay your kindness somehow!

While I adore ethnic cuisine, I've been away a long time and I don't know everything that's still around/open/etc.

Though there was a wonderful Thai place, run by a magical family, that my family has always loved. It's in London -- I just can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Oh Merlin, I love Thai! Please, please, please try and remember! I'll be your humble servant!

Ah yes, now that I'm more awake and cognizant... Thaiphoon. Don't know how I forgot. I think they serve both wizard and Muggles.

Hey, if telling a helpful and handsome bloke that he's gorgeous is wrong, then I don't want to be right.

But I'll definitely let you know!

My family is Carribean by origin, and the best I know not cooked by relatives is Mango Room, and yes they do takeaway, but beware if you're not used to spices. When they say traditional they mean lots of chilli. It's a muggle place.

You are absolute legend, Thomas! And dishes you recommend? I love spice but I'm not sure about my friend.

No problem, you're welcome. If you like spice I recommend anything with jerk sauce, or the ackee and saltfish. Any of the curries are probably pretty hot too.

For something less spicy I'd suggest the risotto or the seabream. Just don't forget that if you're having sides Rice and Peas is cooked with scotch bonnets although it tends towards warm rather than hot.

Oh Merlin, jerk chicken! I love that stuff so much. I may end up giving it a miss for the whole international dinner thing, depending on how well my friend goes with spices, but I'll definitely be eating there myself!

What team do you support, I'll get you a season pass - such awesome advice can't go unrewarded!

Oh, it's no trouble, really. Mostly I cook it myself if I want jerk chicken, but I'm banned from giving out the recipe, on pain of my aunt's wrath.

And thanks for the offer, really, but the tickets would only go to waste. I can't stand the crowds any more. I'm going to be too busy to get there for a while, I've got a big project just starting.

Merlin's teeth, what would it take for me to prevail upon you to cook it for you? Do I need to bring in Bonsie? I know you two are great mates!

[Warded to Dean]
That's okay! Fair enough about the crowds - I'm really sorry if I triggered you or anything mate, not my intention in the slightest!

Seriously though if you ever need help with anything, just ask. A friend of Susan's is a friend of mine.

We'll see. I'm serious about being busy at the moment, but if you remind me come December I'll see what I can do.

[Warded to Roger]

No, it's okay, I can talk crowds, just don't want to go into them if I can avoid it.

Cuisine Libanais, just a block and half down Charing Cross Road from The Leaky. Always been my favourite.

So, who's this friend you're giving a crash course? You can't just put up a vague message like that.

You're a complete life saver Mellie! Although I'm a bit hurt you've never taken me there!

My friend is, well Marcus. You know the tall, handsome guy on my team that I'm sort of completely in love with? He's going to come around for Indian this weekend!

I haven't taken you there? Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry. But I know that I've served you their take-out plenty of times. They're a wizarding family and do Owl and Floo orders. It's brilliant.

Ooh, Marcus! Flint, right? He is handsome but not the handsomest. Have fun, yes, and let me know if you need anything.

Yes, Flint! shut up he is totally the handsomest man that's ever lives he does okay. Well it is on a Sunday. Maybe I could order some sort of cake-y thing and get Marc to pick it up?

How have I not done that? I feed Cho from there all the time! Anyway, I believe you and I apologise profusely for that mistake. Will you let me make it up to you somehow? Oh, and it's player friendly food. Wow. Really? I haven't taken you there? If When you go there, tell them bonjour from Melinda, and they will make sure you get the best. The Bashirs (the owners) were our neighbours in Diagon until I was 4 or 5.

I am so happy to hear that things are starting to move forward there. I mean, they ARE moving forward, right? Sure, just let me know what and circa'ish what time he'll be there, then you know I'll do that for you. Maybe put on my most intimidating look and let him know in no uncertain terms what will happen to him if he hurts you.

Maybe I should ask you about pointers on dating a Quidditch player.

Oh, you must know of this proper Afghan place just a few blocks off Diagon Alley. If you go out past the Leaky onto the muggle street - take a right, walk down two blocks, then a left, another left after that, and you can't miss it. Best Narenj Pulao I've ever had.

What about that Sushi place you and I love? That's got to be on your list by now.

Also: My dad swears by this place in Guildford for real authentic Hong Kong-Chinese food. I could get the details from him if you'd like.

[Warded to Cho]
Oh god proper Chinese! I don't think I've had proper Hong Kong Chinese since your parents thought that fattening me up would get me to marry you - despite the fact that I was balls deep in that Polish bloke, and you were rather distracted at the time too!

My Aunt has her own restaurant in Dublin where she serves a sort of Indian-Irish fusion, if that suits your needs. It's called "Green Curry", on Grafton Street.
