"Need some help with that, short stack?" Stacey heard from over her shoulder, and if one of her hands had been free, she would have flipped Meatball off.

"You're only like, three inches taller than I am, shut the fuck up," she responded as her fingers closed around the last bottle of ink she was reaching for. She disliked using magic on tattoo supplies unless it was for the art itself, since she was always worried about some unintended consequence. It was unlikely that a simple Accio would have any impact, but she wasn't going to take any chances.

"It's at least four, but I also know where the step stool is," her employee told her, and she could hear the grin in his words. Glancing over her shoulder, she stuck her tongue out at the older man before stepping over to the counter of the booth to set down everything she'd grabbed for Charlie's session.

"Don't you have anything better to do than stand there and watch me get ready for a client?" she asked, sorting out the pile into something resembling a sense of order.

"Nope," he answered, and Stacey turned around, rolling her eyes, to punch him playfully in the shoulder. "Getting better, I almost felt that this time!" Meatball said, backing away with a laugh when she glared at him.

Shaking her head in amusement, she turned back to what she was doing, making sure she had all the ink she needed, needles carefully laid out beside them, wanting to ensure that she had as much ready to go as possible before Charlie arrived.

She nodded in agreement to the facial expression. "My abuela is like that. At this, I've almost given up on even trying to explain it to her." It was less of a headache for her that way.

"That's tough," Stacey said. "I'm lucky enough that Meatball's been here with me since the start. We're not quite busy enough to need anyone else, but if we keep growing at the rate that we seem to be, that might change in the future." She grabbed a handful of the snack with a grin of thanks, popping them into her mouth.

Offering him a small smile that was a little sad - it was obvious how much Charlie had enjoyed his work, and even more obvious that he wasn't going to be able to go back to it. "Sounds incredible," she answered, not sure what else could be said, since she didn't want to inadvertently upset him in any way.

"Yeah, I mean, Mum does mostly get it, but she hopes I'll change my mind," he said and rolled his eyes. Molly was still sort of hoping if he met the right girl or boy he'd change his mind. Charlie doubted it somehow.

He nodded his thanks to her sympathy. "I mean for my money you're doing a great job, and I hope you can keep expanding. I love hearing about other businesses being successful, well assuming I don't think they're shit in the first place!"

His smile was a little sad, but it was a good sort of nostalgia he was feeling. "It was amazing, and I miss it. I mean I'd be crazy not to, but I still know most of the people and I know they'd let me go visit if I wanted. I just can't do it safely full-time any more." He hadn't been back to visit yet, not since the month's trial he'd abandoned a week or so in. Between his leg and the fact he didn't quite trust himself so much any longer it wasn't going to work out. He wasn't quite ready for that yet.

"I'm sure she means well." Stacey shrugged as she said it - her own grandmother wasn't trying to be mean or hurtful, it was just that the concept didn't quite fit with the woman's world view.

Offering him a grin, she answered, "Well, thank you. I certainly hope to be around for a while! And yeah, it's nice to see other people being successful."

Nodding her understanding as she listened, Stacey commented, "That makes sense. I hope you'll be able to go sooner rather than later. Even if it's not quite in the capacity you were, it's better than nothing, I would think."

Stopping herself before she could ramble anymore, she moved to check out the ink on Charlie's leg, taking note of where the blood was beginning to congeal just a bit around the center. "Looking good," she muttered under her breath, relieved that things seemed to be going well so far.

"She does, and I don't mind. It's not like she's making an extra effort for me. All the kids get the settling down and having kids conversations and we all love her anyway!" He really didn't mind unless he was having an incredibly bad day. Frankly some of the others had it worse given they were already in relationships.

He nodded slightly, screwing up the now empty bag of nuts he'd munched his way through. "Yeah, I should get around to setting something up, but as my staff will tell you I'm awful about taking time off. The time I'm taking after this is going to be my first in... a while." He wasn't bothered by his lack of holidays really, he liked keeping busy. "I should owl someone though see if they've got something coming up I can slot in with."

His breath shifted deeper for a second and he spotted her looking at his leg. "Are we about ready to get back to it?" he asked, preparing to lie back down again so they could finish up. At least this time he'd be expecting his reaction and Stacey already knew it was just tattoo related.

"I'm ready if you are," Stacey answered with a grin, holding out her hand to take the empty bag so she could dispose of it for him. "But only when you're good to go, so feel to get comfortable."

She went through the process of preparing herself once again, washing her hands and snapping on a new pair of gloves, before settling down on her stool at the end of the table. They were actually a little more than halfway through, and she was thinking that it might take less time than she had originally thought to finish everything up.

"Just say when," she said, looking up to give Charlie a smile.

Charlie shifted around a little, getting comfortable as Stacey prepared herself and by the time she was actually asking if he was ready he was already in position.

"Yep, go for it," he said.

"The only disappointing thing about this is going to be the fact nobody much is going to see it," he said, peering slightly at what she was doing. "But I guess it's more for me than anyone else in the first place," he said. His other tattoos he'd happily show to people if they asked, but once this was healed and he was wearing his prosthetic again not only would it be massively awkward to show anyone it would also feel like a huge show of trust and possibly even intimacy. Not that he was ashamed of his stump, but most of the time he showed it was in some sort of home or medical setting and far less of the latter these days.

Buzzing the gun once to ensure that everything was still in working order, Stacey paused at his comment. "You'll know it's there, though, and that's the important part," she said with a soft smile. She did genuinely believe that, but then, she took a pretty philosophical outlook on tattoos in general and her work in particular. It was part of the reason for her rule about intoxication, because she didn't want to be part of someone else's bad decision, or worse, helping them do something they would come to regret.

It didn't take long for her to get lost in the ink and the gun in her hand, watching the artwork come to completion under her fingertips. In what seemed like no time at all, she was finishing the last block of color, wiping away the blood that she could and grinning as she moved to grab the gauze to cover the final piece.

"Now, I'm sure you're familiar with this, but since we're done with the actual tattooing, I've got to go over the aftercare process with you before I can let you walk out the door."

"True," Charlie said, genuinely reassured by those simple words. It really was for him after all. Claiming and reclaiming his leg as part of himself.

The second part of the tattooing sped by easily enough. Charlie tuned into the music and lay back, ignoring the reactions of his body and shifting as prompted so Stacey could reach some of the different areas of his leg. Once she was done he looked down and grinned. His very own multicoloured leg. It looked fantastic, bleeding bits and all.

"Yeah, I've heard it before, but it's been a while, so give me the lot," he said, making sure he was paying attention. He didn't point out that his walking would be more hopping on his crutches. No need to make Stacey awkward right now. He had a feeling he'd made a friend, between the tattooing, affinity for swearing, and the awkward erection that had turned out to be relatively not-awkward he was enjoying her company.

Charlie's grin made Stacey smile even more - it was always good to see that someone was happy with her work at the end of a session. Applying a thing layer of ointment over the area, she talked through the information as she worked on taping down the gauze.

"Leave this on for about the next six hours. Reapply ointment as needed, which tends to be whenever you start to get scaly looking or the skin feels dry. Be careful not to get it wet for a day or two, and pad it dry when you shower - don't run the towel across it or anything like that. If you've got any pain, take something that doesn't contain a blood thinner, since that will slow down the process. And don't scratch or pick at it once it starts to scab! It'll fall off on its own and picking it off before can cause irregularities in the ink."

By the time she was done talking, Charlie was done and ready to go, so she looked up at him as she clapped her hands together, grinning as she asked, "Any questions?"

It turned out that Charlie had actually remembered all of the information he needed to about caring for his new ink, but he listened quietly, watching with satisfaction as Stacey covered it up. It was still sore and a bit bloody and puffy right now, but it was going to look fantastic when it was all healed up.

He cocked his head as she finished up and thought for a second. "Nope, I think I'm good. Well, other than, could you open me the door when I'm ready to go? It'll be easier not to smack my stump than me trying to do it when I'm crutches," he said. He still needed to get his trousers back on, but it was a pretty straightforward once that was done. He didn't want to jostle his ink within ten minutes of it being finished after all.

"Awesome!" Stacey said. "If you think of anything, feel free to send me an owl or something through the journals." She nodded at the question, and said, "Sure thing! Take as much time as you need, I'll be out on the couch." A few minutes later she was holding the door for him, saying as he left, "Don't be a stranger!"
