Alicia’s concern for Adrian gave way to a momentary thrill of seeing him again when he came out of the potions room. Her worry, however, was back almost instantly, even before she wrapped her arms around his waist and disappeared into his embrace. She hadn’t a clue what could have him in a bind like this, but something was and the fact that it was affecting the way he greeted her…? That wasn’t Adrian at all, and whatever it was, it had to be bad.
“No, don’t worry about it,” she assured him, following him into the kitchen. “They’ve been bossing my parents around all day and were thrilled that Sam would be taking them home tonight.” That thought had a small smile appear on her lips. “Besides, I’ve missed you.”
Moving in front of him, she rested a hand on his hip, looking up to meet his eyes. “What happened, Adrian?” she asked him straight out.
