Who: Blaise and Pandora
What: Dinner
Where: Pandora's place
When: Wednesday eventing
Rating: Well that depends on what they end up talking about

Blaise always enjoyed dinner with a lovely lady. Lately it seemed he rarely had the opportunity to do so. That of course had been his fault more than anyone else. He'd allowed a presumably spell tight ward to preoccupy his mind in a rather unhealthy way. He'd even attempted to figure out where this child may be existing to no avail. Truth be told it had held him back from taking the time to enjoy life the way he had been. That needed to change. Blaise needed to get back into the swing of things and get back on the figurative broom.

Tonight he was looking forward to sitting with Pandora. He'd decided to finally tell someone about the insanity. Not only that but he wanted to find out how she'd been doing lately. Most importantly he wanted details on her Valentine's date and how things were going.

Take out Thai food in hand, he knocked on the door and waited for her to answer.

Dora opened the door, giving Blaise a warm and welcoming smile. She was glad to see him. Sometimes she swore he worked more than her, which was a fear unto itself. She worked a lot of her spare hours, to exhaust herseld, to occupy herself, to keep herself from unraveling.

"Hello, darling," she greeted him, stepping back and gesturing for him to come inside. She was dressed casually as few enough saw her in public, figuring a night in relaxing with Blaise would be all right, and he knew her well enough it wouldn't matter. "Come on in and get comfortable. I'll get us some plates and we can start catching up."

Blaise was looking forward to a night in. It wasn't often that he got to spend time with his friends in a private setting. He felt that he spent way too much time playing the part set before him and not enough time attempting to be himself.

"As long as you don't mind if I kick off my shoes," he said making his way to the table where he could set the food down and wait for her to return with the place settings.

"Not at all. Make yourself at home," she invited, going to the kitchen briefly and levitating the silverware and plates behind her with a wave of her hand while carrying the bottle of wine and glasses in with her. "Wine okay, or would you rather have a beer or something harder?" she asked as she set everything down gently.

"So tell me how you're doing, darling," she said as she started to rifle through the food he'd brought. "Feel free to vent."

Blaise finished laying out the food and as much as he would like to take his shoes off he wouldn't do so in the kitchen. He knew that eventually they'd make their way to the sitting room and that is when he could let proper decorum wane.

"Seeing as you seem to think I have something dark and brooding on my mind I believe I'll stick to wine," he joked. "Though I am curious as to what you feel I need to get off my chest."

"Darling, I don't think you do, but it's been ages so who knows?" She grinned at him, started serving herself, sneaking a taste here and there to make sure she wanted it. When her plate was full, she walked to the living room with her plate and silverware and her glass of wine. She had meant it when she said casual and relaxed. "But you know, if you do, I've got your back and a knife to stab your enemies with, so it's all good, as one of my neighbors says."

She sat down on the couch, tucking herself familiarly into the corner, feet folding under her. Her glass went on a side table, and her plate stayed in her lap.

"Besides, work has been kicking your arse, and I figured you could use a kind ear."

Blaise filled his plate and subsequently joined Pandora on the couch. "It has been ages," he agreed. "So long in fact I don't think I ever received the details of your Valentine's Day." He easily recalled the conversation they had about how to dress for a proper evening. He knew she wasn't necessarily one to kiss and tell, but he would like to know if there was anything worth knowing.

He took a bite of his food and then added. "Once your tale is done, I may have one of my own."

Dora shrugged a bit, chewing her bite of food thoroughly. "It was nice. I don't think I've ever had a guy cook for me before," she told him honestly. "Considering I'm a very poor cook and Tristan and I pretty much live on takeaway or what his elf cooks, it was doubly nice. "He was a gentleman, on the whole," her only concession to the fact they had traded kisses more than once, "which is good, because, well." She shrugged again. Dora was well aware she had issues both from her upbringing and from life events. "And we pretty much just hung around and talked and such. So it was lowkey, I suppose. But very... nice." The word sounded lame, perhaps, but she hadn't had a lot of nice things in her life up until recently.

"Sounds like you had quite a pleasant evening," Blaise acknowledged. He hadn't had a decent evening since the night he'd taken Genie out to dinner and he'd been too busy to reach out again. No, that was a lie, he'd been too focused on the idea of his non-existent child that he'd kept himself at arms length from any female.

"Do I get the privilege of knowing who this knight in shining armor was?" Focusing on Pandora's happiness was definitely a better way to spend the evening than pondering the absence of anything or anyone worthwhile in his life.

She smiled, a small smile. She honestly had no clue where she was going with Chris, he gave off none of the cues she recognized, and despite advice to just ask, that really wasn't her thing most days either. "It was pleasant," she agreed. "I have no idea where it's going, but it was pleasant."

She finished a bite of her food and spoke again. "Oh, of course, it's no real secret. His name is Chris Summers, he was a Hufflepuff." She tilted her head slightly, watching him to see if he had any recognition of the name.

"As long as he behaves like a gentleman unless you request otherwise," Blaise knew the fine line that existed there and it wasn't one any man with the slightest bit of sense would cross without permission. It was odd the way he saw her. She had taken time with him when he first needed it but now he saw her more like a sister.

He watched as she chewed her food and reached for his drink to take a sip. "Hufflepuff," he said a bit of disdain in his voice. He'd never actually spent much time with any of them and it was more a force of habit and not a condemnation of someone he didn't know. "Can't say I've every paid any mind to most from that house."

Dora nodded. She was more dangerous than most to cross in that fashion, especially since she'd had issues during the war, some of which she remembered and some of which she didn't. Blaise had always respected her lines, back when she had less of them, at least, and he was a staunch supporter. Sometimes she wondered how things might have gone if she'd been with him when her life had exploded out of her control.

She snorted softly. "Darling, these days I'm virtually surrounded by 'puffs," she told him. "They're really not that bad. I spent a lot of time with all the Houses at school, anyway." Her expression held gentle amusement. She sort of understood his opinion, but she'd had her House held against her so many times that she tried not to do it anymore. It did happen, of course, but ...

Blaise may have played the field once he earned position but he had always followed the unwritten rules. He knew of blokes who were always just out for themselves and while he enjoyed his rendezvous he always made each one feel the way it needed to fell. One nighters were always understood as were casual repeats. Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, he'd never been wrapped up in anything that had caused heartache. At least not that he'd ever been made actively aware of.

"We'll have to change that. Everyone needs a decent amount of green in their diet." Not that he thought she was lacking Slyterhin companions, he knew that he personally felt most comfortable when spending time with people he'd had lasting bonds with.

She chuckled softly. "Well, I have you and Mils, and that's pretty damn good in my book," she told him with a smile as she curled more into the corner of her couch. Those two were the two Slytherins she'd spent the most time with over the years, especially in school. She'd dropped a lot of connections before and after Azkaban and she knew some people purposefully distanced themselves because of her choices, whether they knew anything about them or not.

"So, you said you might have something to tell me," she said, reaching out to gently poke him with a toe.

"And I have both of you girls to keep me straight," he said jokingly though he meant it with the utmost seriousness. He trusted Pandora to always be honest with him and Millicent did a wonderful job of keeping him grounded in reality.

"I did?" he moved so that if she wanted to actually stretch out and rest her foot upon him she could. He might even regale her with a foot rub. Though once he shifted he took a moment or two to focus on his food while he thought of how to broach what had been on his mind. "I think I'm losing my touch." That was the best way he could think to put it.

"Damn straight," Dora agreed, grinning over her glass at him. He was one of the few people who had stuck by her, and she had his back.

She tucked her feet comfortably against him, one of her more subtle signs that she was comfortable with him. Physical contact, though she hugged and kissed cheeks a lot, wasn't something she did a lot of. She gave him the time to put his thoughts together, not pushign him to tell her whatever was on his mind. Obviously it was something.

"You, losing your touch! Never," she said. She tilted her head at him, eyes keen. "Why would you say that, love?"

Blaise liked the way he felt when he was with Pandora. She brought a level of comfort he didn't find around many others. She knew him more intimately than any one else. He also knew that no matter what he told her it would be held in deepest confidence. And what he was about to tell her only one, or rather two other people knew, Alicia and the mother of his child, whomever she was.

"The fact that I've not shagged anyone in about six months despite being in the presence of many shaggable prospects." He didn't know how to say the other part and he focused on his plate while he tried to get his brain around actually saying the words that needed to be formed. "All I can see is the possibility of their being someone's mother."

Her eyebrows raised a bit, and she set aside her food container so she could give him her undivided attention. No wonder Blaise was upset, if he'd been without a partner so long. She'd never known him, since they'd broken up so long ago, to be without someone for so long. She drew a knee up toward her chest and wrapped her arms around it.

She tilted her head, taking her time as she usually did formulating an answer that was important. "Someone's mother, or someone specific?" she asked, eyes keen as she studied him. It was a guess, but one she didn't think was without merit. She rather thought it wasn't the thought of pregnancy that threw him off, but perhaps something more personal.

Blaise knew his revelation was a bit shocking. In fact, if most of his friends hadn't already started the process of settling down themselves he'd likely have been the brunt of many a joke long before now. Following her lead he reached over and put his plate on a nearby table.

"Someone out there is keeping secrets so it seems," he signed and leaned back against the sofa cushions. "I saw a ward Alicia posted a while back for parents. I ribbed her for having a faulty ward but I have since seen several." What else was there to tell. The words were solid enough to make the assumption. Blaise still hadn't taken the step of verbalizing that he had a child he didn't know.

Dora's eyebrows raised even higher and she oooohed softly under her breath. "Oh. Oh, I see," she said. No wonder Blaise had been off his usual game lately; he probably had a child out there. That certainly was a game changer.

She leaned back again too, both feet once again snugging under the edge of Blaise's thigh. "Well, darling, I can promise it isn't me," she said with a faint smirk. "Wherever would I hide a child?" She was teasing to lighten the mood, though truth was she couldn't see herself denying a father access to his kid unless the guy turned out to be a horrible brute.

"So thinking about possibly being a father, that's really thrown you a bit, huh," she prompted gently.

Blaise involuntarily rolled his eyes at Pandora's attempt to make light of the situation. He knew she was only trying to cheer him up. Still, he was actually in the mood to have a serious conversation.

"For all I know you have a hidden room under your bed," he did try to respond but it was obvious his heart wasn't in the ribbing. "That's just it though isn't it. Why would one hide a child?" It wasn't the thought of being a father that had him concerned. In fact he was more appalled at the fact that he'd chosen women who didn't have the decency to at least inform him even if they didn't wish him to be involved. "Sure, I've never looked for a commitment but I've never been opposed to one either."

Never could it be said that Dora couldn't take a hint, subtle or otherwise. She smiled gently and let the joke fade away, regarding him more seriously. "I don't know. Maybe she isn't sure it's yours?" she posited. "I mean, that is possible." Not as likely, as at this point the child's looks should point to Blaise's somewhat distinctive ones. "That does happen sometimes. Or maybe she's simply afraid that you might want the child all to yourself and have the power to take it away, though anyone who knows you at all would know you wouldn't do that." At least not unless the child's safety was at risk. "I always figured you'd settle down with someone at some point."

Blaise was glad he'd finished the part of his meal that held the most staying power prior to this conversation. He didn't think he had it in him to eat much more. Truth be told, he could go with a stiff drink right about now.

"I'm beginning to think that will be an impossibility," he sounded defeated. "The more I think about the fact that I've alienated some woman to the point that she doesn't even trust me to tell me that she has my child ..." He didn't quite know how to word the rest of his thought. Blaise was experiencing trust issues, something he'd never cared about before because he'd never believed there was a reason to worry about trust. Sex was just sex afterall, or at least it had been.

Dora's heart ached for Blaise. It was so rare for him to be so torn up about something. She set her plate aside and scooted closer, slipping her hand into his and squeezing it. "I don't think that's the first option. Having a kid, that's such a huge thing for both people, and there's still so much turmoil." She sighed and looked at him, other hand enfolding his as well. "There are possibly spells you could use. I mean, they're not all exactly looked wlel on in today's circles, and I've never used one..." Blood magic was terribly iffy, and she didn't know a specific spell herself. She'd just heard things in the past. Though really she didn't know if he'd want to do that.

She leaned in and kissed his cheek. "Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked genuinely.

Blaise knew Pandora meant well and if the war had gone another way her suggestions may have been viable. As it stood it wasn't even an option he was willing to consider. In fact, it wasn't event something he would entertain in conversation. "A drink would be good right about now?" It was his go to whenever her didn't want to think about it further. In fact, he'd probably spent way too much time in the last few months drinking away any semblance of care on this topic. That was what had him to the point he was presently.

Dora pondered for a moment whether she should press him with more options, but she decided to let it be for now. He knew he could talk to her about anything -- as evidenced by this conversation, she hoped -- and the door was always open for him. "A drink does sound wonderful," she agreed, kissing his cheek again before rising and going to the corner where she had a small bar. She kept it small on purpose, because she knew she tended to over indulge and was trying to be better.

She poured him his favorite drink and herself a small one as well, and walked them back over. "Here you go, love," she said.
