At first, Bryony didn't know what to make of Marcus' response. She edged her broom over to his, dropping a few inches so she could look up at his face.

Years of experience with not only Marcus but his family - and hers - finally gave her a hint towards understanding. It must be incredibly difficult to go against what he had been raised to believe was right.
