RP: Friday night at the Pub
Who: Cho + OPEN
What: Cho stops into the Pub late night after an event.
Where: Finnigan's Pub
When: March 6, 2005
Rating: SFW (I'd assume)

The Pub was nice and busy and Cho appreciated the crowd from her seat at the bar. She'd just come from a wedding reception - an older couple had hosted a wedding ceremony to renew their vows after 60 years in the afternoon and then had a big party to celebrate with their very large brood of family and friends. Out in the country, in a lovely warmed tent, there had been dancing and eating and drinking all night and Cho had even found herself asked to dance by their eldest grandson more than once throughout the evening. By the end of the party, her feet had hurt more than usual thanks to the dancing and her normal amount of running around running the event. But she'd had fun.

Now, her high heels sat below her stool on the pump and her toes wiggled in delight at the freedom as she hoped no one noticed. She ordered a glass of elf wine and took our her journal to work on her notes for the night.

Quidditch was back on, and apparently so were the Bats. Not only had they won, but Finbar had to admit that it felt good to have kicked Puddlemere’s arse, if for no other reason than what little Cho had told him about her friend and Wood. It was petty, sure, but that was just the way it was.

Arriving at Finnigan’s with the rest of the team, it didn’t take him long to spot his favourite patron in that place, and simply let the team know that he’d be over later. Maybe. As they headed to the bar, he veered off to the table where Cho was sitting, her nose in paperwork, as per usual. “You need a night off,” he said as he pulled the chair over and took a seat right next to her.

Cho looked up and her face split into a smile that seemed especially reserved for the man now sitting next to her. "I promise, I have them sometimes. I told you I even went and spent the night with Mum and Dad this week - doesn't that count?" She wanted to lean over and kiss him hello but wasn't sure if that was too forward considering the crowd and his teammates noisily gathering for drinks in the same room.

Shrugging, she set her journal aside, "Not to mention, I was taking notes about the event I just got out of. Vow renewal, 60 year anniversary, and rather enthusiastic grandson as a dance partner all evening," she explained with a weary smile.

Dear sweet Mother of everything that was good and holy; that smile. The first time Fin had seen Cho, she had smiled, sure, but it was the professional, polite smile and the second time? Well, the second time it had taken a while for him to coax even a small smile out of her, but after that, her smiles seemed to come easier. Still, none of them beat those bright smiles that lit up her eyes, especially when those eyes were looking at him and the smile was sent in his direction. “Right,” he chuckled, his eyes focused on hers as he paused for a moment to keep himself from leaning in to kiss her. Let the team get a bit more into their drinks before he did anything to draw their attention, and he knew that the likelihood of someone bringing over a drink at any point very soon was startling high. “A night with Mum and Dad semi-counts,” he concluded, and instead of kissing her, reached over to let his fingers caress gently against hers.

“Should I be worried about this grandson?” he asked, a little worried about the weary smile, though mostly amused by it all.

Cho's gaze went to where his fingers touched hers and her smile brightened again, though a softer watt than the original one. There was something so soothing about his reaching out to touch her like that, but still something a bit sad to her about the whole thing, too. She'd finally found a man, after years of searching (and writing the whole thing off if she were honest), who she wanted to be with - who she might even see something bigger with - and the most he could do in public was to graze her hand.

When he asked about Timothy, she laughed out loud, a big laugh that surprised her. "He was very persistent, and polite, and probably just doing what his grandmother told him to. I think they were worried I wasn't participating - which, you know, I'm not generally. They were so brilliantly happy, though, just watching them you could see how they just wanted everyone around them to feel the same," her tone was wistful. They'd truly been a lovely couple, Rosemary and George, both already fairly old, in their nineties, and yet still so young and in love and without a doubt with many years ahead of them thanks to being wizards and all.

Cho’s laugh was infectious, and had Finbar’s smile brighten to a point where he wasn’t sure it was appropriate. But again, who cared? Right now he didn’t. Instead he closed his fingers around hers. Whether that grandson had been polite and simple done what his grandmother had told him to do, Finbar couldn’t deny that small sliver of possessiveness that he knew he had no real right to. Alright, alright! Fin was jealous, even if only a little bit, though he tried to focus on Cho having had a good time at work.

“He’s a very, very lucky man,” he smirked. With a small nod – and decidedly not letting go of her hand – he gestured to her journal. “You any other plans for tonight?”

"Well with a family like yours, surely there will be another party in the future when you can steal me to the dance floor from my duties in the guise of being polite," she joked. Looking to her journal she shook her head, "No, was just letting myself rest a bit and getting caught up on my notes. The party went well and everyone was happy but there's always room for improvement, especially now with an office and staff to pay for." She sighed. Opening the office had been a wonderful decision and she was grateful to her friends and family for supporting her in the expansion, but it was also a lot more work than running things out of her flat.

"And what about you? Celebrating with the team into the wee hours?" She asked, looking over to his teammates with a neutral smile. It was hard for her to remember they were in public and she was simply 'catching up with a familiar face'. Especially with him now holding her hand like he was. The butterflies in her stomach were going batty.

“With a family like mine we could keep several business running on our birthdays and anniversaries alone,” he joked back, glancing down to their hands as he turned his to thread his fingers through hers. “Maybe next time I won’t need a guise to do that?”

He looked over to his teammates when she did, though only briefly before he looked back to her. “Depends,” his smile softened, his fingers still playing idly with hers. They were so dainty compared to his, so frail looking compared to how strong he knew her to be. He was sick and tired of hiding away, angry with himself for the situation he had landed himself in by being too stupid back when he married Ruby, and even more so that it was affecting Cho now. “Do you want to join me?” he asked, then gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “I mean, are you ready to the attention it may cause?”

Cho laughed at his joke, knowing it to be entirely possibly true. His next question though, surprised her and she felt her cheeks warm in a blush. Not trusting herself to speak, she nodded instead.

Her blush deepened, though, and she took a startled breath when he asked if he'd like to join her with his team. "I..." she nodded again but knew she should say something. Exhaling, she said, "I doubt I'm the one the attention will be on. And..." she wasn't quite sure how to say the next bit, "it's not like I don't have experience with that sort of thing," she was thinking about the press and Harry when she was in school, and worse, the press after Cedric's death. They'd said awful things about her. Her mother had sent howlers to the Daily Prophet, but they hadn't stopped until they'd moved on to some new Harry "scandal". The thought of Cedric still squeezed her heart a bit, though, and so rather than stay on it, she said, "Are you?" Was he ready, was what she was more worried about.

Finbar nodded, too. As much as he wanted Cho’s business to succeed, and was willing to have his entire family hire her exclusively for their arrangements, he wanted her to attend them with him.

For a moment he worried that she would turn him down – which, really, he wouldn’t have blamed her for – but then she nodded. He knew that she was wrong, though, because in the company of his teammates the attention would be on her; Merlin knew they saw enough of him on a daily basis. Again, he nodded, accepting her claim that she had experience with attention. This would probably not be the same, but they would just have to take it as it came, and deal with anything that happened. At her question he nodded, because he was ready, though he doubted he would ever be ready for anything happening to her because of him. “I am,” he said, leaning in and pausing for just a moment before her kissed her softly. “By the way, we won tonight.”

Her smile could have lit up Monument Alley when be confirmed that he was ready, too and when he ever leaned over to kiss her lightly like that, she could have done a flying loop without the help of her broom. Trying to come back to her senses she squeezed his hand a bit tighter and aaid, "I guessed as much from the sound of things over there." She looked to his teammates again, not obviously, but also not bothering to hide her smile this time.

It felt as if every little worry in the world lifted from his shoulders. They were still there, sure, but they just weren’t weighing him down right now, and his beaming smile turned into a chuckling laugh when Cho admitted to having guessed that they won. “Did I tell you we beat Puddlemere?”

“Come on,” he said, getting to his feet and holding his hand out to her. “I’ll introduce you.”

"As long as it wasn't Tutshill," she laughed. Standing with him, she took his hand and said, "You know I know a couple of them, right?" with a smile.

They headed to his team and her focus went to Terry and Vikesh, who she knew from school, to say hello to. Vikesh gave her a light hug despite her hands both being occupied and then he looked to her hand in Finbar's and he masked his surprise quickly enough to not embarrass her.

"Hi guys," she said somewhat sheepishly, luckily being well versed in speaking with groups of relative strangers. "Congrats on the match today," she said, directing her comment mostly to Terry and Vikesh.

“Well, we’re playing them next Saturday, and I’m making no promises,” Finbar grinned back at her. After their loss to Tutshill last November – ten points! Ten measly points, even though Tutshill had caught the Snitch! – he knew that the Bats were eager to set that record straight. As it was, there wasn’t much he wouldn’t do for Cho, but purposely lose a match to Tutshill? No, he wouldn’t do that, and he was relatively sure that she appreciated that.

He quirked an eyebrow at her claim that she already knew some of them, curious as to who and how, though the minute he saw Boot’s and Moon’s recognition of her, he realised that he should have figured. The only indication that Cho wasn’t completely certain of the situation, was the hold she kept on his hand, which he was more than happy to provide. She nailed it though, and when her congratulations on their win was met with choir of “Cheers!” in her direction, he knew that they didn’t have anything to worry about when it came to the team.
