RP: Checking up on Luna
Who: Rolf and Luna

What: Checking on Luna

Where: The vet and then her place

When: Midday? March 1

Rating: SFW

Rolf had had a couple of questions he wanted to ask Luna for about a week now. He knew a lot, but there were some finicky things that he liked to double check with actual people who specialized in things, like Luna. He’d stopped by the vet a couple of times this week, but once she’d been out, and once she’d been busy with a patient, so he’d just gone on his way. It wasn’t urgent, after all; he could ask any time.

He decided after dealing with the animals that morning that he’d stroll by and see if she was available. His shop was closed on Sundays, but the vet was usually open for at least a few hours. He headed out and strolled over, but he found it firmly locked, like no one had been there at all yet.

Well. That was odd. Luna was almost always here for a bit. Last time the place had been closed in an untimely fashion…

His brow wrinkled in concern and he decided on a hunch to Apparate over to her place and visit. He could use the questions as an excuse, and invite her over for dinner with Rose and Dennis or something. He could whip something up. He Apparated over and went up to her door and knocked.

There was no one at the vets because she hadn't gone in. In fact when there was a knock at the door, it caused Luna a bit of a fright because she was completely not thinking about anything else. Like the fact that someone might come to check on her. Truth be told, she was in a bit of a daze. Once her heart stopped pounding, she went to open the door and figure out who was there. Maybe it was the people from St. Mungos and they had forgotten something.

When she saw that it was Rolf, she couldn't help but look a little confused. It was clear that she was kind of out of it. She was pale and had clearly been crying and truth be told she was just kind of staring at him for a moment as if she had no idea why he might be standing there in front of her.

Earlier in the morning when Luna had gotten up, she had discovered the worst. Her father had passed away in the night. She hadn't been there holding his hand, like she had promised. Since discovering him, she hadn't been feeling much of anything. Like she was numb and clearly her body was in autopilot. Even when they had come to take him to the funeral home, she hadn't said much of anything. So there she was, staring at Rolf.

"What are you doing here?"

His concerned was immediately justified upon seeing her. Luna looked... lost. Pale and watery and at complete and total loose ends. She just stared at him for a long moment, and he was trying to figure what to say other than "hi," when she finally spoke.

"The vet wasn't open, and I was worried about you," Rolf said honestly. He knew things had been rough; he'd tried to help as he could, giving her a day here and there free of watching her father, and checking in at least once a week to make sure she was okay. "What's wrong, Luna?" He didn't add that she looked awful; that was never a good addition. But she did look completely wrecked, which made him think something was horribly wrong.

Oh right. The vets. She looked a little like she clearly hadn't thought about that at all until just now. "Oh. Oh the vets. I forgot I.." Well it was probably a good thing she hadn't left the door unlocked or something like that. She would have to write a note or something.

"My.. my father died this morning. He.. in his sleep, he didn't wake up and I.. I've been with the people. They came to take him for.." For things. It was odd in that way, she hadn't really been old enough to have to take care of things like she had to now. And now everything was on her shoulders. And she didn't know how to handle it. "I don't really know what to do." Even though she had been expecting it, and it wasn't out of left field, she still didn't know what to do.

"Oh, Luna, I'm so very sorry," Rolf said, feeling a pang for her and for the loss of her father. He'd sat with the man more than once to keep him company; he'd rather liked him. And of course, Luna was a dear friend, and he wouldn't wish that loss on her at all. He stepped forward and hugged her gently, not sure if she'd welcome it or not right now.

"Is there anything I can do? I can at least take all but the worst emergencies from the vet, if needed." But he didn't know what else to do, what else to offer. A close fmaily death was not something he'd handled before.

While she hadn't been expecting the hug, it was nice to have someone's arms around her even just for the moment. However the hug desperately made her want to burst into tears, and she tried quite hard to push them back until he stepped back from her. Quickly she wiped at any of the tears that had fallen and looked back up at him.

"Thanks. I.. I don't know. I would appreciate if you could do that. Maybe come by and make sure Grace.. the woman who works with me, make sure she's all right by herself?" Just to check up on her or whatever. "There's a lot to do and I'm.. I don't know where to start. I just.. I knew this was coming, but it's still a bit of a shock."

Rolf rubbed her back soothingly, and even when he drew back, he kept a hand there, comforting and warm. He hated to see his friends hurt and crying. It made him feel very protective. He knew he couldn't really help, but he still wanted to, nonetheless.

"It's not a problem. I'll take care of everything, and make sure Grace is doing all right. You don't need to worry about that." He rubbed her shoulder gently. "I don't think you can ever be prepared for something like that. Do you want me to sit down and help you sort through some of it for now?"

Everyone was being really nice, which made her glad. She wasn't sure what she would do if she didn't have friends and no one to help her out. It was already overwhelming but at least they were there. She nodded her head a little. "Okay.. sure." She turned and went to sit down on the couch. In truth she'd been pretty much just sitting there for the past couple of hours.

There were a pile of papers and things on the table. Forms for the funeral. Things concerning wills. And ones that she didn't even understand. She rubbed a hand over her face and looked at the pile with a bit of weariness. "I barely know any of these things. I know what he wanted, but nothing.. specific. And they need to transfer the Quibbler over to me and I don't.. it's just too much."

Rolf sat down next to her, peering over some of the papers. He picked some up to read carefully, and set them back down. He wasn't up on all that stuff, despite his grandparents' very advanced ages. He knew enough, though, and he glanced at her for permission before sorting a bit of it. He put it in a logical order, some what chronological in order of what needed to be dealt with by when.

"It's not something you'd really be expected to know," he murmured. "And you can talk through his wants with the funeral wizards, and they'll be able to tell you how to implement them."

It made her feel a bit better that she wasn't the only one who didn't understand half of what was on the pages. Or what she was supposed to do with them. "I will when they come back. Richard said he'd look through everything and try to explain it to me." And she kind of trusted Richard more than some funeral wizard that she didn't know. But if there were other questions, then she would ask of course. There were just an awful lot of papers to sign.

She glanced over at him. "Would you keep the Quibbler if you were me?"

"That's good. Richard knows his stuff," Rolf said, knowing him from Hufflepuff house years ago now. He tilted his head and pondered her question with as mcuh seriousness as it warrented.

"I don't know. It depends on if keeping it is worth it for a number of reasons. Money, time, sentimental value." He didn't undervalue that last at all. He had a pile of sentiment, himself, and it did mean a lot to a lot of people. "You could always be the silent owner, with veto power, or you can find someone who will give it a good home."

Luna nodded in agreement. He certainly did, and it wasn't the first time that he'd helped her out. He was a good friend and she owed him so much that she didn't know how to start paying him back.

"Well.. I definitely don't have the time. But.. the money might be nice. And of course the sentimental value." She couldn't imagine anyone else running the Quibbler but her father. She couldn't even picture running it herself, that was the problem. "You can do that?" Yeah she didn't know a lot about it. "Be a silent owner, I mean."

"Oh yes, silent owners or contributors exist. The legalities have options, depending on what you want. I know my grandparents own several more businesses than anyone knows, or have the primary investments in them. I've heard grandfather talk on it. But you can own it and have someone else run it, with as much or as little input as you want to have in it, I think." He shrugged. He didn't know all the family businesses, but his grandfather had been letting him in on more the last several years.

"I had no idea that was possible. That's very good to know that I have more options than just keeping it or just giving it away." Now she would have to do some more thinking. It might be nice to keep a hold of it in the family, even if that family died out with her. But she was pretty sure that running her own veterinary office and the paper at the same time was completely impossible without her actually going crazy. Then again it wasn't like she had a life outside of work. She had nothing but time. "Thank you for telling me."

"Oh yes, there are options. And you have time to choose, so don't feel the need to rush during this time," he said gently. Rash decisions during the rushes of grief weren't usually the best decisions to be had, in his somewhat limited experience. "Any time I can help, Luna."

Right. No rush. People were going to keep telling her that for a while. It was a good thing to know. "I suppose I should.. tend to some of these things. Thank you for checking up on me, Rolf."
